Mexicans, the lowest of Hispanic Class?

Most were from Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, etc..

I was told that it's an insult to call them Mexican. They didn't mind if you accidently call them another nationality, except Mexican..

I wanted to check to see if its same around other places..

This isn't meant to be racist. I was suprised, when I heard this.

They probably see it that way, but South American and Caribbean hispanics are also pretty different from Mexicans.

I'm sure there are similar "Class Levels" in most other groups as well. No idea what they are though....

Trying to think which white race I'd be most offended if you called me....

As a Canadian I'd prefer not to be call an American.....Half Kidding

people are so easily offended nowaday.....really sad

i was thinking that too, i can't really think of another white nationality that i might be called and get very offended from

i might correct them, but thats about it

I think maybe, most people think Hispanic = Mexican. Just like when you ask for a Kleenex, you don't mean specifically a KLEENEX brand tissue as opposed to the Kroger brand tissue. Maybe the non-Mexican Hispanics are sick of being mislabelled? I'm sure they have national pride for whatever country they hail from.

All spanish speaking cultures (I'm puerto rican) are totally different. They just share a common language but most people (the ignorant ones) lump all of them together into one group so when they talk about the immigration issue everything thinks "Mexican" so I guess some hispanic groups just get annoyed at that. I don't think there is a class rank with hispanics but I guess they are just tired of being lumped with Mexicans when they are very much different.

I work with El Salvadorians, they always call me Chino, which is Chinese, Im Korean. If they get called Mexican they get mad.

nice, edit out "oriental." never seen an asian use that word.

Many Hispanic countries have a strong class system (Brazil's class system is based on the color of skin).

Bingo. Refer to yourself as "American" around someone from Chile and see how they react. You've got a 1 in 10 chance of not getting lectured on how they're American too, given that they also live on a continent with "America" in the name.

Oriental is eastern Asian people, slanted eyes, black hair, flat face, yellow skin

Asian is to broad. Asians include people from the middle east, India, Blonde hair blue eyes Russians, Turkey and many other countries.

I've found that even people from Mexico dislike being called "Mexican". I have a (first-generation American) friend of Honduran origin, he detests being called Mexican. I have several close Mexican (as in, legal immigrants, Mexican- not US- Citizens) that hate being called "Mexican". It seems like ALL hispanics either want to be called "Hispanic" ("latino" and "latina" do not cut it, at least from black/white/mixed people) or to reference their actual country of origin, so long as it's not Mexico....

They may think it is an insult, but I've found the mexicans down here are the best of the hispanics. Every mexican i've ran into is very very hard-working, very polite and respectfull, I work retail, and the Mexicans are never rude or outraged cause they cant make a return or something. I think Mexicans are like the role-model hispanics, down here in FLorida.

Other Hispanics hate being called Mexicans because that is the only country that seems to be associated with Hispanics. For example when you see a Hispanic on the streets most people automatically assume that they are Mexican without questioning whether they could be from another country. I have several friends who are from Latin countries other than Mexico and this is exactly why it is insulting to them.

Would you like to be called black if you were white? Same thing.

No it is not the same thing, you're talking different races, we're talking Countries associated within a particular race.

guatemala and el salvador is "lower class" than mexico

Well Guatemalans get really pissed if you call them Mexican, so I don't think that's the case. I do it anyway though. 😀 Guatemala is one of the most beautiful places on earth so they'll always have that over Mexico.

But, ya, Guatemaltecos hate Salvadorenos because they blame a lot of the crime in their country on them.

The only ones who don't regard Mexicans as the lowest are Cubans who are just happy to be accepted by anyone after they caused so damn many problems in other countries.
