I think "Asian" is a stupid term, since it's hardly descriptive at all. Asia is the largest continent on Earth and the people that live on that continent vary wildly. Up North and to the West, they're white, while in the South/Central portion they look Middle-Eastern. Calling a white Russian "Asian" is about as dumb as calling a white immigrant from South Africa, "African American".

This thread reminds me of Crash ('Since when is Persian, Arab?) ('I'm not Mexican...I'm half-Puerto Rican, half-something...{forgot the line})

And wow, I can't believe nobody's done this already. Just type "define: oriental" in google...it says (first two results)

Definitions of oriental on the Web:

* a member of an Oriental race; the term is regarded as offensive by Asians (especially by Asian Americans)
* Asian: denoting or characteristic of the biogeographic region including southern Asia and the Malay Archipelago as far as the Philippines and Borneo and Java; "Oriental politeness"; "for people of South and East Asian ancestry the term `Asian' is preferred to `Oriental'"; "Asian ancestry"

So that settles it, I think. Might be politically incorrect but most people (these days) probably don't give a fvck. I am Indian and I lived in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia age 0-13.
For Most Arab people: (People from the Indian Sub-Continent)
if you are fair-to-medium complexioned, you are Afghani/Pakistani...
if you are medium-to-dark-skinned, you are Indian/Bangladeshi

Me? Depending on how long I had been out in the sun, I could be any one of the above four. But I never took offense to either one of those. It's retarded to assume that people can tell your nationality and roots from looking at you, or even having a conversation with you.

I remember when I was a little kid, I used to ask every Filipino barber/cashier/waiter in Saudi Arabia if they had black belts in Karate/Kung-Fu or the like. And they all used to joke that its something they don't have to learn: they are born with it!

People think I'm American, until I become a citizen I correct them and say I'm Brazillian.

guatemala and el salvador is "lower class" than mexico

Being born in El Salvador, I guess I'm one of those "lower class" people.
I have never really cared what people call me. I must admit, though, that the recent rallies by mostly Mexicans has given me a bit of a negative feeling when someone calls me a Mexican.
Having European ancestry, I have had people call me: Mexican,Italian, Persian and even Filipino.
When people aske me what nationality I am, my reply is "American".

i wasn't stating it as fact. i was stating it as my perceived stereotype. i personally don't believe it, but i noticed a lot of mexicans have pride.

No worries.
I wasn't taking it as an insult.

Someone please educate me...

Aren't Mexicans the result of generations of Spanish and Aztec interbreeding?

Are other Hispanics the original natives of south america without any Spanish ancestry?

I was in Panama for 6 weeks living in bananna farm back in 2000. I can tell you that the natives of Panama are Indians. The natives are treated worst and are considered the lowest class in the country. They live in shacks without toilet or running water in cities..

The place I was is 20 minutes from Costa Rica Border.

Yep, this is very true in most Latin American countries, specially Argentina...who basically base their classes depending on their skin color. but yeah natives have it pretty bad down there....

i went to school for years with a kid from Honduras. we started to kinda hang out some in high school with another guy from jersey, and wed all make fun of each other adn call each other names, no big deal. this goes on for a couple of years, then one day they show up at my parents place, want to hang out, and the jersey guy tells me our hispanic friend didnt want to be called mexican anymore. wed did it to fvck around with him, he always chuckled and never gave a damn.

then he got this idea that he was better than mexicans, and said he found it offensive.

i laughed my ass off at the idea. and still called him a mexican.

Personally, I think the most tragic thing is when people call Pepsi, Coke. Pepsi is not Coke! Pepsi tastes horrible! I always return my "Coke" at the restaurant when it is Pepsi.
