Elitism is good, I want elite politicians the same way I want elite Marines, elite programmers, elite real estate developers, etc. No one has a problem with elite military units and so by that same token we should absolutely look to vote for elites, no matter how smug they are. Don't like smugness? There's a safe space for that. ;-) But for real, grow up.

The hard truth for some of the white working class (though by no means relegated to whites); elites run the country, and it's in your best interest to vote for the best and strive to be the best. Don't like people better than you? Welp, try harder, life is full of people better than you at some craft. So next time you mouth off about something you're woefully, hopelessly misinformed about, don't get offended when you're called stupid and wrong. You are those things, and with time and effort you could certainly reverse said misfortune.

Okay this is pretty funny, apparently in 2015 Trump said Streep was one of his favorite actresses. Lol.

hah, priceless

Any actress you love?

Julia Roberts is terrific, and many others. Meryl Streep is excellent; she's a fine person, too. The problem is I'll name three or four or five and then the hundred that I know will be insulted, and I don't mean to insult them.

Whats funny is in Trump's response he states "one of the most over-rated actresses in Hollywood, doesn't know me but attacked last night at the Golden Globes"

Really? She's overrated? I think he's a little off on that one - she's only one of the most highly lauded actors of any generation. She was on stage getting the life time achievement award (or whatever it was). And she really didn't ATTACK him. She stated that as actors and actresses they had a job to do and a place and reason to voice their opinions and that they (and everyone) needs to back the press and support and protect them. She never mentioned him by name.

And what job is that?

Oh wait they play pretend, and memorizes lines written by others. Somehow they think that playing pretended means they are important.

They play pretend much better than you do here, and get paid a shit ton more to boot, so at minimum they are vastly superior to you.

LOL, you need to work a bit harder and aspire to be more than a sad troll with horrific grammar.

You confused eliticism with arrogance

Just decided to see the speech. It was really fucking tame. And she was right. Everyone with a decent head on their shoulders knows Trump was making fun of a disabled dude. It's not rocket science people.

Trump has the thinnest skin of all, and his acolytes are not much better.

And to expand on that, you'll notice how it's not really all that l33t to get elected, it's relatively "easy" to get elected, much harder to actually govern and do so effectively. Two entirely different skill sets. Getting things done well, on time and in a lasting fashion takes quite "Elite!" skills. You'll see exactly how badly the current Congress lacks the right stuff when they fail to nut up and actually repeal and replace ACA, or do almost anything else of significance mainly due to the internecine conservative doctrine that has gripped them. Frankly, the only thing that'll save these poor turds will be if the conservatives do an about face and adopt populist, progressive rhetoric and policy, thereby getting Dem buy-in and allowing bills to pass. Which effectively means what some have already noticed, that small but important parts of the GOP platform are (at least in Trump rhetoric and some other places) turning left in important ways (trade, entitlements, spending).

It's still pretty amazing to me that Trump and his supporters think they have some kind of high ground to stand on regarding sounding appropriate on TV. Streep isn't wrong, didn't really say anything overtly partisan either, and is basically being vilified for not preaching inclusion to benefit Mr. Identity Politics and exclusion. Oh that Ivory tower-dwelling bitch.

Sorry, I don't buy this indictment by a group of idiots projecting their own smug partisan bullshit on others, particularly not towards a gifted actress just calling a spade a spade. Don't like what she's saying? Flip the damn channel Francis.

If Trump voters don't like the smell of shit, maybe they shouldn't have gotten behind a pig.

Head shot!!

Holy great EPIC FUCKBALLS

Best. Burn. EVER.

I love how a guy who has been an attention whore since the 80s, on TV and a business icon since the 90s, a reality TV celebrity in the 00s, and just spent a year and a half on TV running for office...still thinks people don't know who he is.

Oh getting paid a lot of money is now a judge of how superior someone is?

Smugness of liberals apparently has no bounds. At least you came out and admitted that liberals don't care about poor people because all rich liberals are superior to them.

I love Hollywood actors/actresses acting as if they have any grasp of the real world.

Says the guy who voted a billionaire reality tv show host POTUS.

Afraid she might get a Twitter acct and therefore be qualified to run for president?

oh no my grammar is bad. I guess we should all thank those public school union teachers for the great education they provided.

At least my bad grammar is my own. Streep repeats lines a team of writers carefully curated for her.

Can you make a list for us of things that are wrong with the world that you DON'T blame on liberals? Shouldn't take long.

That's literally what your reality show POTUS says. At every opportunity.

That, and he has a good brain.

so Meryl Streep lives in a bubble meanwhile Trump grew up in a super wealthy atmosphere, his pops gave him millions, and Trump lives in a gold-plated apartment.

And Streep lives in a bubble.

Ok then Trumpists.

You guys are fucking idiots of the highest degree.

Righties have always claimed the high ground on morality. They always wanted to tell people how to live their lives and legislate their beliefs on others. I call that elitism.

With the election of Trump they only have the high ground on hypocrisy.
