I used to use this site years back and then it kind of started sucking. It seems that the company's founder, Kim, everybody's favorite fat rich man who used to promote himself at kimble.org running around Europe to the enjoyment of the entire internet, cannot really stay on the right side of the law.

Update: anonymous shut down doj, riaa, others: http://gizmodo.com/5877679/anonymous-kills-department-of-justice-site-in-megaupload-revenge-strike

Online piracy from China and elsewhere is a massive problem for the media industry, one that costs as much as $250 billion per year and costs the industry 750,000 jobs, according to a 2008 statement by Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.

That sucks. I used this site a ton.

That is good, he obviously pulled that deep, deep from within his ass. I doubt piracy costs many jobs at all. The money people save stealing copyrighted material they spend on other things they cannot steal.

ZOMG Piracy isn't stealing since it's just a copy and I wouldn't have bought it anyway blah blah blah /scumbag thief talking points

Though I'm sure you would have no issue with someone coming to your house and stealing your entertainment system because they could afford to purchase one...right?

I didn't say it's right, merely his number was pulled from the deepest part of his colon. If somebody stole my entertainment system, it would be money they'd not have to spend on their own gear and could instead perhaps use it on buying...wait for it...copyrighted software, thereby supporting that industry!

I'm sure they'll spend this new money on jobs lol. After the execs pat themselves on the backs with a few lavish parties and an order of Ferraris all the way around.

There is a difference between piracy and theft. If someone takes my PC, then I have to go buy a new one. If someone copies something I invented, then I still have it.

Just a couple of months ago, Megaupload bitch slapped RIAA and MPAA with a song performed by RIAA's own musicians, and the crooks at RIAA went ballistic and got MU shut down. Who's the daddy now? 🙂

So if you have twin 12 year old daughters, and I take one, no big deal, right? She was just a copy.

you really think Anonymous is stupid enough to attack the DOJ site? i'm sure they realize that this only gives government more justification for draconian control over teh interweb.

DDoSing websites of organizations that derive zero revenue from said websites, that'll teach them 🙄

Oh damn they hit www.fbi.gov according to gizmodo-- I can still get it but it's loading very slowly.

universalmusic.com says simply The Site is under maintenance. Please expect it to be back shortly.

You are being just as retarded as the RIAA and other people claming piracy costs X amount of dollars. Until they are honest about the actual numbers, they can go fuck themselves. Piracy isn't right but I sure am not on the side of RIAA or Hollywood.

Just because someone pirates something doesn't mean it is instant revenue loss for the IP owner. Who says that the pirate would have EVER purchased that product in the first place, even if they couldn't pirate it? Are they factoring that in or do they just assume that every pirated copy is X amount of revenue lost?

I am not going to feel bad for MU and others being shut down because they host pirated material either.
