they did a study with 2 dolls. both were exactly the same (including clothing) except one was black and the other was white.

black kindergarten aged girls picked the white dolls overwhelmingly to play with.

So long as the more "voluptuous" body can easily accommodate the girls adding and removing the clothing from the doll. I think that's one of the reasons Mattel cites for the unrealistic body proportions of Barbie. Well that and she's based off a German doll that was supposed to be a gold digger / prostitute.
