Pick a Soldier, choose Shock Trooper at level 20, maybe even pick Barrier as your "bonus" ability.

Congratulations! You are now invincible! Insane is even a joke, though a very long and laborious joke because every enemy has Immunity + Barrier and takes forever to finally take down. :(

Great game, excellent story. The end was just like you playing a character from a movie scene...wonderful experience.

I hated the Inventory system and Combat system. I liked the story and voice acting and that's what kept me hooked but I hope they revamp the combat/inventory system in ME2. These are general complaints by many people.

i've heard people talk about this game a lot, but never really bothered to find out more.

is this one of them multiplayer massive games? or more of a single player story mode game?

i know it's action-rpg but is it okay for a person with virtually no rpg experience? and does is it subscription based?

It is a singleplayer, non-subscription RPG from the makers of KotOR (Knights of the Old Republic). It is a western RPG, so think, Diablo. Not at all similar games aside from how leveling works. You over time get access to better weapons and skills, and can increase different factors about your personality (like how well you can hack a computer, or lie convincingly).

I enjoyed it a lot, but ran into the map glitch. I was able to get to the Citadel, and then onto another planet, but couldn't ever leave the first planet.

hmm... never played diablo, or kotor. i've always stayed away from RPGs, they never interested me. always been a fps/tbs gamer. i have played couple action rpgs, the old zelda games and recently mount & blade. but the only straight rpg i have ever played is super mario rpg on snes.

so would you say this game is sorta similar to zelda ocarina of time?

Not really, it's a hybrid of FPS with RPG elements. Best thing I can come up with is somewhere like Deus Ex, or to a lesser degree Fallout 3 or TES3/4 if you played with a bow a lot.

The gameplay is good, but it's not extraordinary. I really had little interest in Mass Effect initially, didn't think it was my kind of game, but I went in on Direct2Drive when it fell to $20 and played it back in 2008 and it was easily my personal GOTY for 2008(And even 2009, hell it's top 5 of all PC time on my list over the last 15 years, in no particular order Wolfenstein 3D, World in Conflict, Half Life, Starcraft, Mass Effect) because of the story. Imagine how well Bioware handles stories in KOTOR, now make it twice as good.

I think you should try it, the inventory system sucks, but I personally gleamed so much enjoyment from the game, Mass Effect 2 is now my most anticipated sequel ever (even over Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3).

I played it on 2 systems, a old single core 2.4ghz Athlon 64 with X1950GT and a new 3.5ghz Core2Duo with a HD4870, game looked good with both systems.

I really enjoyed the game and would highly recommend it. However, I didn't like it as much as KOTOR. But that is just my personal opinion, since I was really into KOTOR and was wishing for KOTOR 3 instead of an MMO (TOR).
I had l lower end system with an E4500 and I believe a HD2600 pro when I played the game. I did not have any problems with crashing, and I thought the graphics were quite good for the low end system that I was using.

i think if you play mass effect expecting an FPS at all, you're going to be disappointed. what you should expect is KOTOR, but with combat that requires SLIGHTLY more involvement (but can still be paused to issue orders).

so there's no multiplayer component?

also, i looked up some screenshots, it seems to be a 3rd person not 1st person, no?

Correct. No multiplayer at all. And it is 3rd person.

i was looking at the reviews on amazon and they're pretty bad, mostly due to the DRM. does the steam one have no DRM, other than the fact it's on steam?

Except third person instead of first. Very good game, a few hours into it now.

BTW the latest patch (released about a month ago?) made significant changes (improvements in the user's favor) to the DRM, check the release notes.

Steam is DRM but it doesn't have any other DRM.

I wouldn't have even know the non-Steam version had DRM if you hadn't just said it  Certainly less invasion than Steam.

The Securom (Disk and Direct2Drive) has a 5 install limit, but now it has a revoke tool so you can uninstall it. I found it's not too bad.

I really liked Mass Effect, I played on the PC. But I thought the game was long because there was not enough action and the planets are completed boring. I'm not even sure why they had them, it was almost like a third of the game was unfinished.
