i've heard people talk about this game a lot, but never really bothered to find out more.
is this one of them multiplayer massive games? or more of a single player story mode game?
i know it's action-rpg but is it okay for a person with virtually no rpg experience? and does is it subscription based?
It is a singleplayer, non-subscription RPG from the makers of KotOR (Knights of the Old Republic). It is a western RPG, so think, Diablo. Not at all similar games aside from how leveling works. You over time get access to better weapons and skills, and can increase different factors about your personality (like how well you can hack a computer, or lie convincingly).
I enjoyed it a lot, but ran into the map glitch. I was able to get to the Citadel, and then onto another planet, but couldn't ever leave the first planet.
hmm... never played diablo, or kotor. i've always stayed away from RPGs, they never interested me. always been a fps/tbs gamer. i have played couple action rpgs, the old zelda games and recently mount & blade. but the only straight rpg i have ever played is super mario rpg on snes.
so would you say this game is sorta similar to zelda ocarina of time?
Not really, it's a hybrid of FPS with RPG elements. Best thing I can come up with is somewhere like Deus Ex, or to a lesser degree Fallout 3 or TES3/4 if you played with a bow a lot.
The gameplay is good, but it's not extraordinary. I really had little interest in Mass Effect initially, didn't think it was my kind of game, but I went in on Direct2Drive when it fell to $20 and played it back in 2008 and it was easily my personal GOTY for 2008(And even 2009, hell it's top 5 of all PC time on my list over the last 15 years, in no particular order Wolfenstein 3D, World in Conflict, Half Life, Starcraft, Mass Effect) because of the story. Imagine how well Bioware handles stories in KOTOR, now make it twice as good.
I think you should try it, the inventory system sucks, but I personally gleamed so much enjoyment from the game, Mass Effect 2 is now my most anticipated sequel ever (even over Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3).
I played it on 2 systems, a old single core 2.4ghz Athlon 64 with X1950GT and a new 3.5ghz Core2Duo with a HD4870, game looked good with both systems.
