No, you just need to apply the patch...btw don't forget to play the expansion, it's an asteroid (x51) in the map, make sure you go there before you finish the game and don't delete the save files as it is required to play mass effec 2.

Unless it's an unofficial patch, you won't need to patch after the initial Steam install.
