Level cap first time through is 50, it's 60 the second time. Can make your character better. Can complete more achievements, make different choices, etc. I LOVED the game, and I haven't finished a second playthrough yet due to other games to play. I do want to, I just haven't had the time.

Depends... You are really playing a epic interactive story with elements of a shooter. If you enjoy doing things a second time to experience the different outcomes then yes, it has replay value.

Since you can play through the entire game in less than 8 hours, completing every side quest and visiting every planet, its not hard to play through it twice. Once male, once female. If you're feeling up for it, there's also Paragon and Renegade paths, but the outcome of the game be much the same. Except you'll really tick off Captain Anderson. ;)

Its definitely a noob friendly RPG, but not bad for 20 dollars now the DRM issues have been lessened.

i can read a good book or watch a good movie twice, which is what i did with mass effect. i really didn't even try and change things up much, i just played it again.

I thought the game looked great but the missions and dialog were somewhat tedious. Never finished it.

You think as a new player you could finish the game + the completionist achievement in less than 8 hours? I just don't see that happening.

I wonder how long after the 360 release we'll get it on PC? I can't stand playing console games that require the use of both analog sticks for movement and combat.

it's more like 8 hours if you do zero sidequests. doing nothing except for what was right in front of me at the citadel, i've racked up over three hours after leaving the citadel and getting liar. there's at least four or five hours left if i go straight through it.

No way you can do 8 hours with sidequests except perhaps on Easy.

Just had a go with my Shock Trooper + Warp on Hardcore with everything possible done - took me 28 hours. The game was cake though :p I started at lvl1 and finished at lvl57. Still have Insane to do with the same dude :) Game is wicked, no idea which time I am already replaying it.

It is, I am playing it on the max allowable difficulty (some higher options are grayed out, I assume one has to unlock them) with lowest amount of autoaim possible and it is still mind numbingly easy as far as the combat goes... good thing I am not playing it for the combat.

They also have an option for auto-level and pre-made characters, so you do not have to think in regards to the character customization.

I haven't finished it yet, primarily because I keep telling myself that I WILL do all of the side quests, etc. Unfortunately, exploring the planets and doing the side quests tends to be very boring. I estimate that I'm about 1/3 - 1/2 of the way through the main story. I should just reinstall it and finish.

It's not a bad game, but it's not one of my favorites (that may change when I finish the main story). Like many others, my primary complaints are combat (awkward and somewhat mindless), the inventory system (needs better organization, and I wish there were more weapons and more weapon mods, or some sort of crafting / combining items to get a weapon that suits your needs), and the side quests. There's plenty of plants and galaxies that you can "visit," but only a few can be explored. Even the ones that you can actually land on and explore tend to be the same thing over and over - a crashed satellite that requires science / whatever skill to retrieve, a few small buildings with a data disk or something of that sort, and a big building that you can enter and fight enemies in. I've found a few good weapons on explorable planets and several items for side quests, but nothing that really makes me want to stop at every planet I look at.

Yeah, seems like to me, the only point of the sidequests are to level, and subsequently, better weapons/upgrades. My very first playthrough with a Vangard got me to level 50 by the end, having explored as many planets as I could. Even that only got me to level 8 or 9 in weapon upgrades; I never found the level 10 weapon upgrades. I'm thinking about playing again as a soldier and just using a trainer to get early level-ups, so I can just go through the main story. Also I really want to use HE rounds in a sniper rifle... *drool*

It's only cool on the lesser difficulties. Once you get to Hardcore or insanity, the amout of heat it generates/the amount of shots you get outweigh the massive damage. Your usually better off using a weapon with a high rate of fire and just wittleting down health.

I think watching the damn cutscene over and over again after getting fragged by Benezia 25 or so times took 8 hours all by itself.

If you want to try the high-end equipment, why not play with NewGame+?

It makes more sense story-wise too (you start out as a top military special forces badass, not some level 1 schmuck who can't hit the broad side of a barn).

One word: damping.

As for the offworld sidequests, I find they're sort of amusing on later playthroughs when I want a short quick bout of throwing enemies around without too much story. The first time, they just feed your impatience to get to the good stuff.

Make sure to play with the Colonist background at least once, though. The special origin sidequest you get for that is the best in the game.

God I really hope they revamp the combat system and give more variety to side missions so they're not all in that stupid Mako.

Much like KOTOR, this game deserves a second run-through using different philosophies and tactics.

But I really want to play with assault rifles and snipers :( biotic powers are cool, but there's nothing like popping a Geth in the head with an explosive bullet.

I lost interest once I got to a part where I had to like drive a moon buggy around. It went from cool to lame in like 4 seconds.

I lost interest before that. this game just didnt do it for me and I found it incredibly boring. I keep saying I will go back and finish but that doesnt look likely. also for some reason the sound just doesnt feel right and theres this annoying little pop every few seconds. the game supposedly has some audio issues with x-fi cards but I tried all the suggestions to fix them.

I'm not a person who cares at all about story, so impressive dialogues don't mean anything to me. I also was having performance issues on my last computer so I gave up on the game before getting more than an hour in. I might give it a try again later but I can't see the game being too appealing to my tastes.

you guys should really give it another chance.

i gave my xbox copy to a friend who never plays rpg's to try, and i think he played an hour and put it aside for like six months. then he actually played it. three times.

i find it hard not to like when you actually give it a chance. the first mission isn't great, you need to get into the game. though frankly i think the cinematic feel is great right from the beginning.

i decided to go with titan quest over this game, since steam was selling the gold edition for 50% off.

mass effect is next if i happen to like this action rpg genre.
