Not all graphic designers uses Mac. Apple core uses Mac and love it. People in IT uses what ever available at hand, be it a Windows, Mac, Linux or Unix. And, some still are hanging on to their be love Amiga.

Excuse me.

"So a large majority but not every single person in the graphic design industry are lamers?"

Better? (I was using all rhetorically).

So are PCs.

Maybe someday, when Mac-haters shut their mouths and open their eyes, they will realize that.
When Macs run more than 3 applications get back to me. When Macs are not a super huge ripoff get back to me. In fact when Macs are as good as PCs get back to me. :)

OK, what apps do you want to run?

Web Browser? check
Microsoft Office? check
FTP? check
IRC? check
Newsreader? check
CD burning? check
MP3 player? check
Microsoft Media Player? check
Business Finance software? check
Macromedia Studio? check
Every Adobe product made? check
Anti-Virus? check

Should I continue?

Since not all graphic designers use Macs I don't see the connection.

Is this an attempt to try and show that Macs can run even anything close to PCs in the sheer numbers of software?

I think Apples have like 5% of the market, correct? So 5% of computer users are graphic artists? I don't think so!

Ok, time to quit daydreaming and get back to reality. Until I'm a millionare I guess I'll just have to stick it out for a while with my old PC and a cheap Mandrake wannabe hack of that beautiful OS X (drool...:p).
The G5 isn't ship for another few months, and by then some thing faster & slicker is going to come out to bait you into upgrade.

Yeah I just noticed that too. For fun, I made an order at apple's store. The estimated ship date was August.

That's correct. I work in an Adobe certified graphics studio, with Adobe certified instructors and MAC's are the only systems we use.

<---soon to be G5 user. I guess I suck.

I don't work for microsoft - that's ameesh :)

OK if you're a REAL graphic artist (I'm aware of none on Anandtech - not to say there are none but playing with photoshop for an hour/ day does not make you a "graphic artist" in the hardcore sense) go ahead and play with your Mac. Have fun. For everyone else surfing the net and working on things everyone else does macs represent an overpriced underpowered hunk of pretty junk.

I can't think off the top of my head of any other market in which people continually pay much more money for something that is less functional than a PC and they do on this product things that a PC will do.

I guess so they can have lan parties where the only game they play is Quake I and have benchmark competitions.

I personally would like to see an independent review of MacOSX on the fastest Mac then BSD with similar kernel version run on the fastest AMD & Intel box.

You're right skoorb, there's lots of stuff that only runs on the PC. Jsut off the top of my head I can think of Comet Cursor, Gator, Nimda, Jupiter...

The fact is that there's a lot of crappy software out there for the PC. As far as quality software goes, the only area in which the Mac lags significantly behind the PC is games. Not everyone plays video games.

I work about 10 feet from a "real graphic artist". He has a G4. A girl in our department that does some of the same things on a PC has to restart 3-4 times a day using the same programs and doing the same type of graphic design he does with his mac without ever having to restart. I've seen them both while using Adobe products and the Mac is far superior.

That is a myth, because Windows 2k & XP is quite stable, and if it act up that much then it is in need of service.

Oh right comet cursor and gator are awesome. I can't remember how crappy life was before them. As far as quality software goes, the only area in which the Mac lags significantly behind the PC is games. So everywhere else it lags just a little? So really what's the point of paying more money for something with less functionality unless you're of a tiny group that can really say it makes objective sense to buy a mac?

Her machine is running win 2k and has been serviced NUMEROUS times by computer systems adminstrators here. None can seem to fix the problem.
