It's not nearly as bad as the site that said the benchmarks were rigged makes it out, either. They talk about using GCC instead of an Intel compiler in the intel machine. The intel machine was running linux. Go ahead and poll linux users on here, find out how many of them use GCC, and how many use an intel compiler. it'll be pretty close to 100/0 in favor of GCC.
Then they didn't enable SSE2. Hardly anything actually uses SSE2. It's technology that isn't used very much yet. Hell, the entire standard distribution of RedHat is compiled to run on a 386. It doesn't even use MMX.
Also, the benchmarks were not performed by Apple. They were performed by Veritest, who does almost
everyone's benchmarks.
