I have a pre-order question, my GF was on my ass about how she better be able to play the game with it launches with no interruptions. I was reading the FAQS on the LOTRO website and it's kind of confusing. On one it says

When does the Pre-order Program end?

A: The Pre-order Program officially ends when the retail product is launched on April 24th, 2007. You may continue to apply your Pre-order Product Key for up to 30 days post-launch so long as you apply it before you enter your Retail Product Key and before your first subscription billing date.

then this on a later FAQ

What happens on April 24 if my retailer doesn't have the game in stock yet? Will I have to stop playing until I get my copy?

A: There will be a brief grace period for players who have Pre-ordered but did not receive their retail box on April 24th.

she lives in San Diego and I live in Riverside, I'm going to be very busy and don't know when I can get out there to drop her off the box. I'll end up shipping it UPS if there's any issues. But the first thing makes it sound like as long as you pre-ordered you'll have one month of free play? it says "before your first billing date" after it says you can continue to play for a month (am I reading that right??)

but the 2nd one claims a brief grace period, I wouldn't consider 30 days to be brief, so I'm assuming they're talking a much shorter period of time.

I don't want her to miss out on playing because I'm stupid, so anyone here with information please give it up! :)

If you pre-ordered then you have the pre-order key.
You apply it before applying the retail key from the box and before the first billing date, up to 30 days after launch.
People who have pre-ordered will have a short grace period before their accounts are frozen. They will have to obtain the retail key and apply it after that period.

Simple.

so what's the grace period for if you're already given 30 days? Are they saying the grace period is beyond the 30 days? since I ordered the game online and chose 5 day ground I won't even have it till probably the 30th, then I have to get it to her. But if I have 30 days I'm fine I'm guess.

damn n/m I read it again and understand, she won't have 30 days to play if she doesn't have the retail cd key, the 30 days is how long she has before her character won't be transferable. a "short grace period" doesn't tell me much so I better hurry and get her the box once I get it.

well according to the LOTRO website she has 7 days until she can't play anymore, since the game drops on the 24th they must be working the grace period into that. 3-5 day shipping means I'll get it Friday if I'm lucky, so unless the grace period extends beyond that even UPS can't help me, maybe FexEx weekend overnight (if they offer it) I think I'm screwed hehehe. I read all the FAQ's on the site, they didn't mention but will the retail CD Key work on the beta she has installed? if that's the case I could just pop the box open and give her the key threw email.

I just know if she has to go one day, hell one hour without playing it when it launches my ass is grass.

Pre order question. Do you have to start a char before the game goes live for it to get the special cloak, or does an account with the pre order key always get them when starting a char?

the preorder cloak and ring are a joke, you'll get rid of it by the time your are like level 8. the cloak, most people just destroy to free up a valuable inventory slot, but the ring is indestructable (either a bug or an intentional 'feature').

The preorder online retailer cloak has a nice look. Otherwise no item has much value unless it is only equippable by those at/near the level cap.

Playing now on regular installed client. Wow what a difference having the hi-res object data does. I had logged out by a fel pool in the shire and now it looks like a real grassland.

Haven't play the beta for a week. when does the monthy subscription fee start? I wish they have a $99 lifetime plan with some kind of limited playing time.

Played for a few nights now. Beta into the full version. It's OK. Got into it for a few hours last night and felt it was worth some more time.

I think it's worth picking up. It's a little pricey though. $49.99? Jeez! If it was $39..even $29..I'd consider it. The monthly payments are still kind of steep. I paid an addtional $28.?? for the 3-month subscription. This will be a good trail period.

It's like Guild Wars, except your paying for it. But the $10 just 'might' be worth the extra features and better graphics, and more to do.

Ouch! Dem's fightin' words!

Go say that on the LOTRO forums and NOT get flamed! :p

I am a pre-order player, so I have the option of paying $10 a month or $199 lifetime one payment.

I haven't had much time to play post beta. I am still at 15 clearing up lower quests and working my way up.

My last good deed was blowing up an entire camp of brigands by lighting a box of fireworks on fire.

I was really thinking of getting this game until I saw the pricetag. If they would give like 2 months free online with the $50 game, I would seriously think about getting it. But paying $50 is too much for me to not even be able to play.

this game has completly sucked my GF in, she is a pretty big gamer, but has never played a MMO. I watched her play most of the weekend, she has 3 characters all maxed out at level 15, now is just going around doign quests and building up her traits. What I was watching was BORING! killing boars, bears, birds and other lame creatures. Apparently I'm wrong (she told me this...) she played probably close to 12 hours a day on Thursday, Saturday & yesterday.

She's seriously talking about me getting her the $200 lifetime subscription, she honestly believes she's still be loving the game after 21 months, which is how long it'll take for the lifetime to be a deal at all.

you are one lucky ******

hah you being sarcastic? I love having a girl who is loves to game, but LOTR:eek: has sucked her in. I mean I got there to visit her (once ever few weeks) and she almost completly ignored me for the first day. She "promised to dedicate all the time I can to you" the next day, but she was back on LOTR by noon, mind you she had went to bed about 5:30AM the night before. She shows no signs of getting even slightly bored with the game. I mean all her characters are level 15, but she still can play 12 straight hours.

CURSE LOTR:eek:!

If I were you I would find another girlfriend...

ahahaha... you sound like her bitch. She will get the game when she gets it! Anyways the server will still go up and down because that is how most all MMO's are when they first start.

haha damn why I gotta be a bitch? I need to get it to her soon because I promised have you ever gone back on your word with a female? The outcome ain't usually good.

I gave her the key over the phone and it works fine just without the hi-res graphics but she has a 9800pro 128 meg so I don't even think she could run it as well any ways.

I recently picked up the game... though I am not liking the game as much as I do World of Warcraft due to the fact that there really is no magic system is a major downfall to me but for others it probally will not affect you at all.

Overall the game is good and worth a play but in the end I think you will get bored fast...

I played the beta for a while. The game is fine, quests are often better than WoW (which I've played since launch).

The main thing that keeps people playing is the social aspect, which I never got into in the beta, so it's hard to judge whether it's worth it.

Crafting was too complicated - by the time you can craft something after buying from all the various other professions you need, you may as well have just leveled up two or three times and gotten another item from a quest or something. They need to make the lower level crafting stuff have no dependencies on other professions.

anyone else having a problem with it running slow, not server lag though. My GF was telling me she needs to upgrade to 2 gigs of memory because 1 gig isn't enough. Some idiots she plays with on there are putting the idea in her head she needs 2 gigs for it to run well. The Beta seemed to run pretty good, I'm wondering why the launch is so much worse. I told her it was probably server lag but she says "it's not" I don't play so I don't know much.

Most MMORPGS run much better with 2 gigs of ram.

but that doesn't explain how the beta ran well on her system and it goes live and is much worse, I told her it had to be server lag because code doesn't get worse after beta. I'm sure it would run better with 2 gigs, but it shouldn't run bad with 1 gig. It's not exactly a graphical powerhouse game.
