Easy to hide on top of a TV. I dont think nintendo would have gambled so much without making sure it WORKS and works well.

So you have to plug in the sensor for it to work? It would be cool for it to be built in blue tooth or something. Does the sensor have to have line of sight? or is it like an RF sensor, and whats the range?

Wikipedia has the answers to all of your questions:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_Remote
The sensor bar can be placed anywhere near the display screen and parallel to the screen's horizontal edge. It is not necessary to point directly at the sensor bar, but pointing away from the screen itself will disrupt position-sensing ability. The use of the sensor bar allows the Wii Remote to be used as an accurate pointing device up to 5 meters (approx. 15ft) away from the bar.[5] The sensor bar is about 20cm in length and features eight IR LEDs, with four LEDs being arranged at each end of the bar. [11] The Wii Remote contains a one-megapixel image sensor [12] which is used to locate the sensor bar's eight points of light in the Wii Remote's field of view. The known real-world dimensions of the spacing between the LEDs on the bar allows the Wii Remote to calculate its position and orientation in space relative to the bar. This information is in addition to, and supplemented by, the 3-axis acceleration and tilt sensors in the Wii Remote.

So, 15 feet away and LOS is necessary. That's for games where you use the Wii remote to point at the screen, like a FPS. It can sense motion without the sensor bar though - so when you're using the remote like a tennis racquet or what have you it doesn't need to be pointed at the screen.

How many Mario's are there? How many bastard children of Mario? Mario golf, Mario Tennis, Mario party, Mario PIITB??

How come Mario never made it to PC?

Only 480p? Well, I'm definitely not unplugging my 360 for a Wii.... it can go on my 4th S-video input.

Oh lol I was confused, I was thinking of the receiver end of a wireless controller. Not a sensor bar for light-gun like stuff. thats pretty cool though, great that it works with all kinds of TVs. Even though you can't take advantage of those TVs. :(

I don't know, I guess because Nintendo doesn't make PC games.

He did make it onto the Philips CD-i

Per the OP's request, list of games featuring Mario:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mario_games

Most of them aren't Mario games though, just games that have Mario in them.

The way I look at it is this... Nintendo makes some really fun games. Most of them are not "realistic" games, they're more cartoonish and arcade-style games. Like Mario Kart for instance, or Mario Tennis. They could make up a different set of characters for each game, and they'd still be the same fun game. Or they could use an identifiable set of characters in many different games. Using the identifiable set of characters works pretty well.

Actually I don't think games like Mario Kart and Mario Tennis would be nearly as successful if they didn't use the identifiable set of characters. Not that they wouldn't still be great, fun games. I think other companies would love to have a set of characters that could guarantee the success of a game.

When did I say you were making a statement? My point was that you obviously have done little research into the system and decided to bash it anyway. Looks like both your spelling and your reading comprehension suck.

Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix

lol, does anyone own that game?

I don't, but it's the only DDR game for GameCube so I guess some people probably have it... DDR fans who have nothing else. I'm not a fan of DDR, but my wife is... she plays a free version on her computer though.

Stepmania ftw, I don't play ddr either though. I do play beatmania though.

Um I think the official reason given was "difficulties with the manufacturing of the blue laser diode". whatever that means.

I love the part where OP more or less implies that Mario Tennis, Mario Party, Mario Golf, and Super Mario are all the same basic game solely because they have mario characters in them. Not sure why anyone bothered arguing with him after that. Obviously if they had just changed the textures and voice acting, it would be a totally different game...
