off topic, but does anyone know where/when they can preorder a wii? gotta tell the gf soon...

wii = supercharged gamecube with complete backwards compatibility (all 4 controller ports, 2 memory card ports, etc).

Try ebgames.com and gamestop.com, they recently updated their preorder page and it looks like something is comming "soonish". There's probably a million people frantically refreshing that page 😀

Sony's PS3 has a revolutionary new architecture to its processor. Even IBM is using a similiar architecture in thier new server CPUs. As with any brand spanking new technology there will always be bugs to work out. You simply can't compare Sony's track record with Nintendo's. Nintendo only makes consoles, and the fact that thier console recipe hasn't changed much in years makes it obvious why they have a good track record.

There is nothing revolutionary about the Cell processor Sony is using. It's 90% hype, and even Sony's engineers said that the processing power has fallen a bit short. Also, the processor in the Xbox 360 is very similar. Not exactly the same, but similar.

What he's saying is, since it's supposedly 5 year old technology, the price should have dropped substantially. He's taking an overly simplistic viewpoint.

1. He's not considering the R&D cost of developing the Wii controllers, the Wii's "operating system", the online service, etc.
2. He's ignoring the fact that Nintendo has said that the Wii would be several times faster than the GameCube
3. He's ignoring the fact that $250 is pretty freaking cheap considering all of the components in the game system. You can only make it so cheap.

The Wii is a good value, but Nintendo is going to make a profit off every unit they sell. Nintendo doesn't have other divisions that can make a profit and keep them afloat while they're games division is hemmoraging cash, they have to make a profit.

Good luck getting that Wii from Lik Sang. They've had pre-orders available for probably a month now, I highly doubt they're going to get NEARLY enough to fill all of them anytime near launch day.

Online preorders: You order, they charge your CC when it ships. They ship out the first round on release day, then after that they ship as they get them.

No it doesn't. His comment has absolutely nothing to do with the specs of the Wii, except the one spec that it is capable of running Gamecube software.

That says absolutely nothing about your original claim, that the Wii is just a Gamecube with a different controller.

The Nyle is a river in Egypt.

Damn you are retarded. This has been explained to you several times already in this thread.

The Wii uses the same TYPE of hardware as the GameCube. Same architecture, same instruction sets. So you can run GameCube software on the Wii without emulation. That is all he was saying with regard to specs.

If you look up other quotes from Nintendo, you'll see they've said the Wii will be several times more powerful than the GameCube. Hell you can look at screenshots and see that the graphics are better. It's not as big as the difference from PS2 to PS3, but it is not an inconsequential difference either.

I don't see how that would be included in the console price. They're sold separately for $40+$20 for the set which seems expensive enough to make up for the price.

Those buggers are probably pretty costly to make; I can't see them making anywhere near enough from selling extra controllers to cover the cost of R&D.

That's only $10 more than a wireless Xbox 360 controller, and it's probably a bit more expensive to make.

umm, you do know you get a set with the console ?

btw, the price is most likely determined by the market, not the cost to production. $249 is going to look very competitive compared to the other choices, at least that's Nintendo's hope.

Not to mention the sensor bar and the technology to interpret the movement of the controllers. Honestly, the sensors in the controllers are probably relatively expensive and advanced, but the real meat of the technology is in the Wii console itself.

I for one would love to play f-zero GX with the wii-mote. 🙂

I don't know about that one. The Wiimote is very sensitive. A small little twitch and you will crash and burn at the speeds FZero runs at.

Then lower the sensitivity. Just don't sneeze.

Thats the only thing that bugs me about the wiimote really. There should be an easily reachable hold button, so you can shift around in your seat without flying all over the place.

That would be called the pause button.....

Not practical in a multiplayer game, impossible in an online game.

I like how people just spew crap with nothing to back it up, then call me a retard for directly and literally interpreting a quote from miyamoto in an interview about the wii, with a link to it and everything. Its not my problem if miyamoto misrepresents the product he is trying to sell. And I don't have the will nor the time to read up on everything about the wii. Yet I am a retard for not blindly believing everything that people on the internet have to say. Thanks for making my day, again.

ok, so you aren't going to read up on the wii, but you are allowed to psuedo bash it?

You took the quote completely out of context. The quote was in reference to the speed of game development. Pretty much everyone in this thread except you figured out what that meant, it was explained to you several times in dumbed down terms, and you still don't understand.

Its not my problem if miyamoto misrepresents the product he is trying to sell.

He didn't.

And I don't have the will nor the time to read up on everything about the wii.

Then don't talk about things you know nothing about.

Yes, you are.

Substantially better specs than a GameCube.

Did a mustached plumber kill your family? What is your deal? If you don't like the plumber don't play the games. Its not that difficult. Other people enjoy the games because they are GOOD. Why does it rub your sore spot if they like the games, and that they do well because the characters are recognizable and fun? Would if give you a boner if the games had some other generic random characters? You went from arguing that the Wii is the same as a gamecube to saying that you hate how Nintendo rehashes Mario sequels. If you just hate Nintendo's characters then say that, get shot down, realize that nobody cares, and play with your overpriced Sony console.

Was that so hard? BTW:

Q: Is Wii more powerful than GameCube?

A: Yes. It is roughly twice as powerful as GameCube. Developers working on Wii games are largely in agreement that the system is more capable from a horsepower standpoint than the original Xbox. However, it does not have the computing power of either Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

Isn't saying much. To hell with Moore's Law, eh?

You do realize you just posted a quote that contradicts the point of your entire thread in the first place?
