As has been said over and over... it's all about the games.

You criticized Nintendo for mentioning the possibility of remakes of GameCube games with Wii-mote functionality added. I think that's a spectacular idea, especially if they're priced competitively. Like... $20.

See, by all accounts the Wii should outsell the GameCube by a sizeable margin. Many people who will be buying the Wii will have never played those GameCube games anyway. It's a great way to build a collection of good, cheap games.

Of course they will continue to release innovative new games, as they always have.



Nintendo's biggest problems are its stigma of making systems for kids (those "kids" games are still fun to me and I'm 25) and fanboys - young adult males who grew up on PlayStations. I grew up on the NES and SNES, so I'm a bit partial to Nintendo, but I'll eventually buy all three systems (the PS3 last probably, because I'll probably want to wait for the price to drop a LOT)

The real question is how much did the GC cost at launch, if it cost significantly more then it would make sense for the Wii to cost less but if the GC cost as much as the wii, then I see no reason for the Wii to cost as much as it's launch price will be.

Then you need to give a try to super monkey ball, wario ware, zelda four swords, among others. Wiimote will definitely be much fun multi, but will be excellent for single player games as well.

As someone already said, standard controller will be available on day one, already compatible with GC controllers, including the wireless wavebird. Plus, its up to you whether or not you want to stand up and make really exaggerated motions, or quick flicks of the wrist.

The real question is how much did the GC cost at launch, if it cost significantly more then it would make sense for the Wii to cost less but if the GC cost as much as the wii, then I see no reason for the Wii to cost as much as it's launch price will be.

GC cost $199 at launch, and came with one wired controller, as was sold at a loss.
Wii costs $249 at launch, is more powerful hardware than the GC, has internal storge + wifi, etc, comes with a wireless controller with far more tech in it than those gc controllers, the nunchuk attachment, and a pack in game. And they're making a profit. They could probably have sold it at $199 at a loss, but honestly, they are already much cheaper than the competitors, and don't really need to.

That "Classic Controller" is an abomination. They actually made a controller that's WORSE than DualShock 2, something I thought would be impossible in this day and age. Or at least it looks bad, can't say I've ever held it in my hands. I guess if you're not using the analog sticks it's not so bad - just like a SNES controller. And for N64 games you could use the GameCube controller I guess (although that'll get tricky with the C buttons... hmm...).

Yes when I ask a question that usually means I don't know the answer. Will you be able to play games that have wiimote functionality, without the wiimote, and still be able to play the game? Will the wiimote be mandatory for the games or not?

I don't agree, the question was in regard to the pace at which games will be released, in regards to the pace at which games for the GC were released.

Miyamoto responds with the reason: Because "The hardware is basically a GC". They plan to remake GC games, modifying them for functionality with the wiimote, and that is his answer as to why the release pace is similiar to the GC's.

You are right that the question had nothing to do with hardware specs, but his ANSWER does.

You will not be able to play wiimote games without the wiimote. At least, there arent any games designed with dual types of control. Some games will use just the remote, many will require the packed nunchuk attachment.

For the most part, the wiimote is the controller of choice. Although it has been stated that smash bros will not use the motion sensing capabilities of the wiimote, so there will likely be many games with "standard controls". Although I cant see why anyone wouldnt use the wiimote when they could...you don't *have* to stand up and make giant exaggerated motions like they do in the commercials.
