no... normal people still can't generate a trial key yet. (people who purchased a copy and entitled to one pass key for a friend, or CE with 5 keys)

I don't understand..

Why don't trial keys work?

Anyone else get an email for a special in-game item? I got some kind of cloak of drinking. Very appropriate for me...

from the AOC admins :

The buddy keys that come with every edition of the game ( one with the normal version and five with the collectors edition ) will be provided through the accounting tool once the first wave of paying customers has settled on the servers.

So soon you will be able to take your friend with you and show them the beautiful lands of Hyboria!

I have a question for all you AoC players. I personally like MMO's where everyone has a role to play in your group. Tank, healer, crowd control, damage dealer and if you didn't work as a team you wiped. EQ and Vanguard were good for this and WOW and Guild Wars were not. The later two everyone just fought their own mob and teamwork was minimal.

What are your opinions?

Why the separate night/day time quests, that let you choose which? The game doesn't have a real day/night cycle? Is it just me or are MMOs becoming less and less persistent??

I just saw the SS someone posted above - ha, the UI looks like WoW (even the chat). Makes me miss WoW sometimes

I really wanted to like this game, but it just isn't doing it for me. It seriously is like Guiild Wars with a monthly fee tacked on. The funny thing is I didn't mind Tortage that much (although it's not something I'd like to go through again with an alt. character). The places after Tortage are a lot worse IMO. It really started to feel like a single player game, going long stretches without seeing a single person. The fact there's a ton of instancing in this game doesn't help in that regard. Quests after Tortage have gone completely downhill. Generic, travel across the map quests, gather X, slaughter Y. It's a poor rehash of WoW's system.

The combat seems like a breath of fresh air at first, but then just grows tedious after the first few levels. I can only imagine the kind've pain your fingers will feel after an epic boss encounter. I can't comment on PVP since I'm only level 27, but it doesn't sound like there's a whole lot of reward in that regard.

Even on the official AOC boards, it seems like a lot of people feel this way. I haven't seen this much negative reaction for a new MMORPG in a long, long time. I feel like I wasted 50 bucks, pisses me off..

yeah, my passive acceptance of how un-fun the game is turning into anger/rage on the realization that i wasted $50. i had more fun with EQ2 free play last week while waiting for AOC to come out. (and that game came out 4 years ago)

Funcom really put the FU in fun.

they're lucky only the subscribers can red the AOC boards, it's fill with some valid criticisms of the game filled with fanboys defending the game with same arguments like "it's launch week, expect those bugs", and "go back to wow/eq if you don't like it".

also, reading all those threads on AOC is making me even more angrier.

Most people are too busy enjoying the game to post on the forums. The number of complaints in there is very small considering how many people have the game already. I don't think it's a waste of money if you are unsatisfied with it now wait a couple of months and I bet it is a lot better.

There are naked women in this game. Whoopdidooo. Melee combat looks just the same as WoW, what's so special about it again?

Thing about SOE is they really hit the nail on the head in trying to develop EQ2 for player's fun factor.
I just wish I could afford the subscription right now. If only they had an Eve Online style of potential 'play for free' with secure gold for game time card transfers.

That's exactly what I do. Mine for 1 month straight, then buy 4 3-month time cards then I'm paid off for the whole year.

Is it a known fact that the Herald of Xotli class is underpowered? I am level 18 right now and I just feel really weak compared to watching some other classes. I was struggling killing level 16-17 creatures and at the same time I saw some pet class tearing through the same mobs at only level 15.

My HoX is 23 now and I can take about 3 equal level mobs. Just make sure that you have Hellbreath fully upgraded to .3 second cast time and use it between combos. Also make sure that you have lame auto face and auto target turned off so that you can line up the mobs in a way that you AoE will blast.

Playerbase is the foundation of an MMORPG, if other players didn't matter we'd save the monthly fee and play single players.

As such, a question I haven't seen asked - how's the playerbase? After another night of reliving the film Idiocracy in WoW's battlegrounds & trade chat, I'd pretty much play EQ1 again at this point, 1999 graphics and primitive gameplay included, to get away from the drooling 12 year olds and/or retarded folk who comprise 99% of Azeroth.

And on a related note, in ~6 months (when the bugs are ironed out and any last minute content has been added) how will AoC be? Unbiased opinions are valued here, I know a lot of people are upset at the inevitably problem-ridden launch of an MMORPG, but with all that aside, how is the game in terms of depth & immersion?

Damn, I didn't even know that I could turn off auto face and auto target. That will help immensely, thanks!

I would say the player base is very good so far considering key community aspects like the Auction House aren't even up yet. I have yet to see much spamming and/or nonsense on two PvE servers. People in chat seem to be very friendly and helping each other with the beginning aspects of the game. This is much in contrast to some of the other MMORPGs I've played where if you ask a simple question there are at least 5 replies of NOOB thrown back at you.

After deleting my first character whom I didn't like much and playing through the very first portion of the game again even though I liked it before I am having a blast now. Not sure if it is because I have the gameplay mechanics down or it just grows on you with time but whatever it is I'm sure I'll be addicted soon.

Instancing :(

As MMOs become more successful, they are becoming less MM.

Paul, if you want to sell your account, let me know.

As for instancing vs non-instancing, I don't think we're at that point yet where you can have 500-1000 individual players in the same zone/area without massive lag.

I just found out AoC is PvP only. I'm a carebear who played on WoW's PvE servers, so AoC's definitely not for me.

Not sure what you are talking about, but maybe you are too busy being "Baked", but there are PvE and PvP servers. I would say on a PvE server it is just as PvE as WoW is.
