I wonder how that'll do comprared to daggers, if you don't backstab.

No vendor, I did the same thing, dump them (keep a couple things to drop for puzzles).

Not sure, i had a hard time picking, i can never get BS's lined up anyways just trying to build out for damage.

I'm guessing daggers might do some more damage than assassinate without backstabbing, but pretty much a guess, and it's already done now for your group.

I finally finished it. A really great game overall, but unlike many, I don't feel like a replay.

I know I'm late to the Grimrock party, but I fired up this puppy as my next backlog project and I love this game!

I'm just starting level 8. I have a Mino Warrior using maces, a human warrior using martial arts (bare hands, lol), and in the back row is my axe/shuriken throwing Rogue and a Frost focused Mage with most points in Spellcraft.

I love the combat and the generally intelligent puzzles. The only thing I do not care for are puzzles that require you to use specific weapons to proceed.

The two that come to mind needed special swords to solve, but since I don't have a swordsman I had no need for those objects and left them behind like all the other stuff I can't use so as not to be over burdened. The puzzles themselves give no clue that I needed to have those items.

Other than that I have no complaints. The graphics are great, and the sound effects are perfectly eerie. So far, LoG is one of my favorite PC romps in a few years. Easily worth more than the $5 or so I picked it up for. I'll pay up to $30 day one for the sequel.

Make sure you fall into the "pits". Some secrets are only obtained by dropping down into the level below.

I agree it is a great deal of fun. Where I wasn't thrilled was with all of the timed puzzles. There was one in particular that made me stop for a long while. You hit this switch and then have to follow a long series of trap doors close and then open again, and there is a flying monster that can block your way.

I don't have a problem with monster fighting. Nor with puzzles. But having to do the same D#$@ED corridor over and over and OVER again got really annoying. To me. Not that I didn't eventually succeed, just that it got boring.

^^^ Heh, I just finished that puzzle yesterday and loved it. It ain't so bad when you use quicksave and quick load. Simply kill the creatures first, quicksave, then make progress zipping from spot to spot and quick saving every time you reach a milestone in time. I would complain too if I tried beating those timed puzzles in one run.

~~~
CPA: yeah, I figured out early to fall in every pit I come to. Like I said, the only puzzles that give me problems are the ones that require me to use a weapon not fit for my party that I purposely leave behind so as to not be encumbered.
It's been a few weeks since I played, but that puzzle was just darn annoying in my book. I get that you are supposed to kill the bat before setting off the trap. Only, I would sit there and wait for it to show up TOO shoot. Took a while. Then you have to fall in order to get to something, only you have to fall in the right place. So that took a bunch of tries and some damage. Once you do fall, you have to kill some stuff down there. And if you die, you have to do it all over again. it isn't a difficult puzzle. But just annoying (to me).
Anyway, as I said, pretty awesome game. Particularly to someone like me who is a fan of the original EOB games that this was clearly based on. I hope they made enough money and make more. :)
got this on the sale. love it so far!
although I am kind of stuck now. there's a room with gated walls and there is a gate on the other side, there is a floor switch on the far right side of the room that opens a gate, but there are 2 portal things that move around the room and take you to the beginning of the room.
i'm not sure how to do this as the portal moves fast and it also teleports any items you drop on the switch....
Got it thanks to yesterdays sale. Lots of fun. Kinda tough to spot all the secrets. Too easy to get ahead and be murdered by something stronger than me. XP progression seems slow. But I am enjoying myself.
