Installing it right now. It takes a while to put three discs on the hard drive. :p

For 360? It's 3 discs? Wow. Can you tell me if you ever actually have to change the disc when you're playing or if you have the disc in, it plays as though you're playing all 3 discs at once?

So far I like it, but I'm finding the lines of questioning too finicky. Seems like there's only one correct way to approach a suspect/witness, even though you may have evidence that you can throw right in their face. And sometimes I find it confusing to even know which of the evidence you're supposed to use for a particular question when the last thing said by the suspect can be kind of vague so choosing evidence is sometimes just shooting wildly in the dark.

I haven't gotten a disc switch yet, so I don't know if I'll have to put Disc 2 into the drive to play those missions.

8 cases down, and slowly getting the hang of distinguishing truth from lies. Getting kind of frustrated with how difficult it is to have an interrogation go 100% correct, so I keep reloading from a save point if I get less than half right. The instruction manual has a brief writeup on what to look for when interrogating a witness or suspect, but even then it seems really hard. In some interrogations, it almost seems like it's impossible to tell the difference.

Took a bit of a break from the story to work on the street cases, which seem to be pretty easy, yet fun, and nicely paced. Really liking L.A. Noire more and more each time I play it.

You will have to swap discs, as it's just a piracy concern if you only needed one disc to play the whole thing. It should be pretty much just linked to the story though, so you shouldn't have to swap discs just driving around the city. The full city should be reachable regardless of which disc you're currently on.

Interesting game so far. I definitely agree about the uncanny valley thing with regard to the detailed heads on the less detailed bodies. Most of the time it's not an issue, but in some of the cutscenes it looked like the heads were comically disproportionate to their respective bodies, such as in the first newspaper cutscene.

Aside from the fancy head business I am enjoying this game so far. Interviews and interrogations certainly can be tricky, especially because the gamer in me doesn't want to believe that someone is telling the truth three times in a row when there are Doubt and Lie options available.

EDIT: I also read that this originally spanned six discs on 360 (wow!) but they were able to compress it down to three.

Did you read the section in the manual about the interrogations? It's brief, but sheds a bit of light on what to look for when questioning witnesses. It basically says that if they're darting their eyes around, and barely making any eye contact with you, it's a lie. Or if they're fidgeting fidgeting and scratching a bit, they're uneasy and not being 100% truthful (doubt). Usually you can spot a truth just by the tone and body language. They'll be relaxed, and maintain eye contact.

And of course, if you have evidence that contradicts what they say, it's a flat out lie.

One thing I've noticed that only barely bothers me is that during conversations between characters you can tell they were mo-capped individually because their eyes almost never meet. They always look straight ahead, which looks... funny sometimes.

The eye contact during interrogations is fine, though.

Yeah I completely understand how it works, but like I said during one of the interviews it was hard for me to believe that three straight questions in a row were the truth, since it's a video game and there are three options to pick from. I guess I was just being impatient.

Is anybody else having frame rate issues?

I had a couple of instances last night were it seemed like I was getting about 2 frames per second. The biggest lag came at the Black's house when I went outside to look at the heater.

Are you playing the 360 version?

I haven't had any issues but I'm playing on PS3. Some of the reviews mentioned a few instances of framerate drops on the 360 version. I've only played up through the Black case.

No, I got the PS3 version because I did not want to switch disks. I think maybe my PS3 is dieing again then.

No problems here.

360 version here, I had some major stuttering during the intro scene as Phelps was getting into his car at home and driving to work. Been pretty smooth since then.

Yeah, that opening scene was the only time I experienced any stutter as well.

Anybody experiencing any input lag when driving? I don't have a single game that suffers at all from input lag on my plasma. Every other aspect of L.A. Noire plays fine and snappy, but when I get in a car and start driving around, there's at least a half-second -- maybe more -- of lag. Kinda strange. I haven't fiddled with my TV's resolution yet, but I don't suspect that would be the issue, since every other aspect of L.A. Noire is fine, and every other game I have works flawlessly.

So far I like the game. I'm kind of afraid that I'm going to finish it too fast though, but I am terrible at keeping myself from playing games I like non-stop.

I have noticed some frame rate issues, but nothing that was really any worse than other games. No slideshows or anything, just some barely noticeable drops.

I find myself kind of wishing that they had made it more like a GTA game, instead of the chapters that start immediately after finishing a case. I find that I'm not really getting a feel for the city because I never really know where in the city I am, I just follow the markers or the map, which is a shame because the city looks beautiful. I don't see why they didn't make it more like a sandbox game like GTA, unless they were trying to avoid comparisons.

I'm also finding it kind of difficult to get used to the way the cars drive. They are slow but they turn on a dime. I'm finding it difficult to find the middle ground between barely turning and turning extremely hard.

Yes, after playing Forza 3 extensively for the past few weeks, the cars are extremely arcadey. They take forever to start and stop, but you can turn corners at full speed with no problem.

As for the game, I really can't figure out the truth vs. doubt. I think I've been wrong probably 75% of the time. I got tired of reloading when I got things badly wrong so now I try and figure out what the correct answer is and then check a walkthrough to see if I'm right or not.

The dynamics of the interviews seem extremely implausible as well -- I'll be going on amicably and all of a sudden I'll call someone out for lying, then the next question will be a truthful one and it'll be back to amicable conversation.

As for not being able to fail a case, it is possible to fail, but the game just then reloads from the point right before you failed the case. So far I've failed cases by:
1) Getting too far behind the suspect and losing him (I chased a guy out of a window and assumed he'd be smart and go down, but no, he followed the movies and ran up)
2) Accidentally turning on my siren when I was trying to covertly tail a suspect (oops!)
3) Backing my car over the dead body when leaving a scene (for contaminating the crime scene).

Overall I'm kind of disappointed by the game, mostly because I really can't figure out the interview parts. The person will look around, fidget, and not make eye contact, but is actually telling the truth, and then there's another case where I should doubt when they look me right in the eye and don't fidget at all.

I've also had issues with when to play the lie card -- there are times when the person said something that didn't corroborate with the evidence I had found, but she was apparently telling the truth because she didn't know the real story, and another case where the evidence didn't directly contradict what the witness said but the "correct" answer was to use it as evidence for a lie anyway.

Sounds like I'll wait for awhile for this game. I was only going to buy it early on if the reviews were outstanding..I have too many games to catch up on anyway.
