L.A. Noire - The Official Thread of Truth, Doubt and Lies

I'm at case "The Lipstick Murder" (Well finished it) and I don't know...having trouble getting into it tbh.

I agree with you Gor. I feel like I'm actually trying to solve the mystery, and I'm actually interpreting the characters' body language and movements and telling from my perspective if they are lying or not. I'll say doubt or something, and he'll go "YOU KILLED HIM DIDN'T YOU" and I'm like calm the fuck down dude....I don't know, not exactly as I expected it to be, and really linear. And that is saying a lot because I like linear games a lot of the time...

The story as a whole is pretty solid, and I like how each desk has an overarching main criminal you're chasing down... be it for murder, drugs, etc. The issues definitely lie in the investigation, IMO the "lie" part mainly. I can tell the difference between truth and not, however telling the difference between a clue you think proves the lie vs. just having doubt is really starting to make no sense. Makes me think this wasn't fully playtested by anybody outside the dev team, otherwise some of these clues would have been either presented differently or used for a different question.

I don't know... the mechanics are all there but it's a little too unforgiving on which clues are correct. I'd hope in the future they'd have more clues trigger the proper response (as more than once I had multiple clues that showed they were lying for different reasons). I can see why they made it impossible to fail the story, as if you had to replay stuff if you messed up certain questions it could be a very annoying game for some.

I'm going to barrel through to the end (I'm in arson now) but I can't see myself going back to 5 star and find everything. Side missions are boring, finding the rare cars was okay but pointless since you have no central garage to use cars you found (another mistake). I understand this isn't a full Rockstar game and shouldn't be regarded as another GTA clone, but a little more to make it FUN and not just realistic would be nice.

damn it this is out for the PC.... would've enjoyed some nice 60FPS on my GTX 480... oh well looks like a PS3 for me... anyone wanna sell me there's who already beat the game?

So Rockstar announced the DLC deal for L.A. Noire. Basically, they are releasing DLC over the next few weeks that you can buy individually including some of the pre-order DLC. OR, you can buy the Rockstar Pass for $10 which essentially pays for all the DLC ahead of time and gives you a 40% discount.

Here is the schedule.

  • Chicago Lightning Detective Suit (Social Club only) – May 17;
  • L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass (limited-time discount price) – May 31;
  • “The Naked City” DLC case – May 31;
  • “A Slip of The Tongue” DLC case – May 31;
  • Broderick Detective Suit and Gun – May 31;
  • Sharpshooter Detective Suit and Gun – May 31;
  • The Badge Pursuit Challenge – May 31;
  • Chicago Piano Machine Gun (free community unlock) – May 31;
  • L.A. Noire Rockstar Pass (standard price) – June 14;
  • “Nicholson Electroplating Disaster” DLC case – June 21;
  • “Reefer Madness” DLC case – July 12.

I enjoyed the game overall since I like rails more than sandbox.

Plot spoilers

I guess I shouldn't have expected differently with Rockstar but ending was a downer as usual. Basically, fight the good fight but in the end, life sucks. From what I gather, Cole's efforts barely put a dent in anything. He did help derail the real estate plot but it didn't seem like they would actually take those guys to court since Kelso ended up with zero evidence.

I don't understand why Cole hooked up with Elsa anyway. He seemed like a family man type guy with morals. Was it just the stress from killing people in Japan that got him depressed?

Of course, the rat Earle got off unblemished. Cohen is still around untouched. Land developer got shot in the leg but they didn't even keep his payoff ledger.

I guess crime was rampant back then but it just felt like all the top bad guys got away unless they got killed by themselves. The "good guys" basically got nothing but a pile of headache.

Okay, I just completed case 10 I think, the one about the mexican woman. Now I'm starting to get into the game...really liked this case. Took my time, got all the clues, only missed one question which I figured I had the evidence but wasn't sure.

Okay so I just finished it.

What the hell..? I don't get a lot of shit that went on. Why was so much stuff wrapped up with Fontaine, but not with the other property investors? Why the hell did Cole cheat on his wife? I don't understand the whole change...all the cops were in on it? You'd discover a great mission and crime..then your boss would bitch at you and tell you to grab a desk job for a while? Meh, plus the war bits filtered in made sense and yet didn't at the same time. The game was a great graphical/technical demo, but I just don't know if I actually "liked" it.

Yeah I had the same feeling. The gameplay was decent. The story moved along decently, but some of the actual plot was kind of weird, disjointed, and nonsensical at times.

I understood mostly what happened in the war, but the fact that they told it over like 50 segments of 10 seconds each made it difficult to follow along if you weren't particularly paying attention all the time and were forgetful. It didn't help that I'm not great with faces so half the time I didn't know who was who in the war flashbacks until I got used to them by the very end of the game.

I traded this in for Infamous 2 before I finished it. I just didn't like it enough to complete it. I got through part of the arson desk but it just wasn't fun anymore.

I would agree about the arson desk. Fortunately, towards the middle-end of the arson cases is when it starts to wrap up the story, which I would say was rather engaging.

Yep. It starts to pick up in the middle of the Vice desk and really takes off on the Arson desk.

How..? It wasn't interesting at all.

Oh, someone burnt some buildings - duh, you knew who was involved in it. Wasn't interesting, and thrown in twists like Cole losing his family just didn't make sense.

I think the ending was the same for everyone (as to who was the killer) but just different ways of going about it.... I just wanted to see Madison naked more often in the game...
