I agree with some of the other posters when they say that sometimes the interviewing doesn't seem to go the way you expect it to, or when you say "lie" and Cole calls him out on something other than the obvious.

I just questioned a guy now and he was sitting completely still, not fidgeting, looking me straight in the eye and I know I have collected all the evidence up to this point, so I chose "truth" and got the question wrong. I had no sufficient evidence to call him out on a lie, so I don't know what I was supposed to do there.

I find there can be a lot of trial and error involved. It's an adventure game, so what does everyone expect. Needs more mayhem though, like other detective games. :awe:

Some of these street crime side missions are so trivial it's pathetic. I just had one where it was a potential suicide jumper...it told us to climb up behind him....I went up to him, and it was over. I didn't even have to do anything....

Ok...I've played about 6 hours so far. I've completed 7 cases...on my 8th now. I'll share my pros and cons:

Pros:
* Facial animations are sick....absolutely the best in video game history.
* The stories are generally really good. Each case makes me feel like it's a new week on a
crime tv show..not sure if that's a good or bad thing I guess.
* The interrogations are pretty cool. You ask questions, and try to read the faces and give a
'Truth' 'Doubt' or 'Lie' response. If you give the latter, be prepared to have some evidence
to back you up.
* Graphics seem alright, nothing spectacular. I've noticed a few bugs and glitches but nothing
terrible.

Cons:
* Street crimes..there's 40 of them. They randomly come over your police radio while you're
cruising the streets. You can either respond and go right away (bank holdups, etc), or
ignore it and they'll come about another time. I've done about 15 so far, and they're so
easy...I mean EASY. Some of them you don't even have to kill anyone or apprehend a
suspect (see my above post).
* I completed one of the street crimes down in a subway station on the tracks. I killed the suspect, and as it was finishing...a shuttle came through and obliterated me. However since I had just killed the last bad guy, it cuts right back to me at my squad car reporting what had happened.
* The open world. Sure, you can ignore your current objective for awhile and just roam the city exploring, but I just don't feel like there's any point in doing so. You literally have the game to play, the street crimes (easy as pie), and stuff like viewing landmarks (pretty dumb). There's literally nothing else to do in the game, so you'd best LOVE the main part of the game, or this won't be for you.

I'm sure there's something I might have left out. The game is really fun...I played the hell out of it yesterday and will continue to do so. It just feels like there's something missing. I almost feel like since the Rockstar name is on the label, people just expect a certain amount of things to do in a game. I know I know, this isn't a GTA or RDR, and I have no problem with that. But it's kind of like actors...such as the cast of Friends....or something else maybe Star Trek. It's hard for them to do any other gig because people just think they're that character from that show and can't take them seriously as anything else. When I play a R* labeled (I know they produced it) game, I assume there's going to be a million things to do, and this game just doesn't have that. That's a difficult stigma to remove.

Yeah the huge city seems almost wasted. It's almost as big as GTA4 it seems, but you don't do anything with it...

Still having fun playing the game, on case 13 and 12 hours into the game.

MAJOR SPOILER

I knew it was the temp bartender ever since the very first case. I really wanted to question that guy more right from the start. I was even more sure when every woman frequented a bar, and one of the bartenders mentioned that a temp guy was working with him one night. I was kind of disappointed when it turned out I was right, because I was hoping it wasn't so simple.

Sometimes I think I'm missing out on clues/evidence. Certain items in a location will trigger a cutscene or a chase, but I may not be done searching the room yet. I try to pick out the major clues and leave them til the end, but sometimes I just don't know what I'm going to pick up. Usually it says at the end of the case though that I've found all of the clues, so maybe it doesn't count the ones I missed if I was interupted by a chase. I still feel like I'm missing out on evidence though.

edit: I just had another one of those interview questions that didn't make any sense. It was the one where you're
talking to Jermaine Jones and the question is something like "what is the connection between the morphine and the number slips?" and he says there is no connection, and I can't remember why but I hit "lie". Jermaine then says that he doesn't know anyone by the name of Merlin. Am I supposed to prove the connection between the morphine and the slip, or prove that he does know Merlin? I chose the prove the latter and got the question wrong. edit2: just realized I confused Jermaine with Ramez, but the question is still confusing.

Finished this up over the weekend and I'm not sure how I feel about it. I did enjoy what I played, although there were plenty of moments of frustration. The interview process can be confusing at times and there were a couple cases that I completely failed and had to live with it.

I was disappointed by the ending as well as the last quarter of game (at least in terms of gameplay)
since it seemed to go into cruise control--no deep lines of questioning, no interrogations, lots of chase sequences.

My Saturday was full of beer and liquor, subsequently I didn't feel like doing much of anything yesterday. So I spent my entire day in front of the TV and L.A. Noire.

I'm on mission 18 now, and could have the story mode finished up in just a matter of hours at this point. I'm thinking I might go through and do all the side missions before I finish story mode. Also spent some of last night just trying to get certain trophies too (cause $47,000 in damage during a case, driving 40 cars, driving 197.4 miles).

I was kind of shocked when Cole was demoted to the arson desk. Cole seems like such an honest cop and family man, I was surprised when the story broke about him having an affair. I'm not quite finished with story mode yet, so I'm hoping maybe he'll have some reason to justify his actions. Maybe he was undercover, or trying to build a case against somebody -- who knows. Part of me also wonders if it was a planted story just to keep the mayor's prostitution scandal out of the headlines.

i'm actually somewhat scared now as to whether or not this game would be fun, or another crysis 2 for me (where I had to force myself to play the game 'cause I bought it...)

It feels kind of odd that there aren't any consequences to poor driving. Especially with the way pedestrians will just forcefield glide off your car.

I swear I landed a direct hit on a pedestrian once and instantly failed the case. I've clipped a few and I think it just counts towards the Injury total at the end of the case and can make your star rating go down (oh no!).

Huh. I haven't had that happen but definitely had some warp around my front bumper and keep on going.

The only thing missing in this game is some nuns crossing the street with workers carrying a big window on the other side of them.

Every time I clip a person the game tells me cops should be better than that, and that it's affecting my case score.

I've been starting to run over more people. When I started playing the game I tried to follow the rules and drive normally, but I caught every single red light everywhere I went, and the cars on the road don't seem to be able to see anything but what's only a few feet in front of them. They all turn left as soon as the light turns green, doesn't matter if there's cars going straight through or not. Sometimes they don't even move when the light changes. So now I just drive crazy.

edit: I also notice that they still haven't fixed the whole "car there one second, gone the next" issue that all the gta games have had. I'm driving around the city right now trying to drive all of the different cars, and there are times where I pull in front of a car to stop it, and turn the camera so I can't see the other car and when I turn back it's either changed into a different car, or gone completely. Kind of annoying.

I wonder when the technology will exist for their to be a much more advanced version of this type of game. When I go to a crime scene I shouldn't be able to just walk around and mash X until I find a clue. I should be able to interact with everything and decide for myself if the clue is relevant.

On the 20th case now, with one more to go. Should be able to get it finished tonight.

One problem I've always had with video games, is that stories just don't pull me in. I can't think of many games that had a story that I actually found interesting, or even cared about. Happy to say that's not the case with L.A. Noire. The voice acting and facial animations are great, and give the characters an authentic feel. I actually find myself wanting to finish L.A. Noire for the story, rather than just the sake of beating it.

That doesnt sound like a limit of technology, but a resource limitation, namely time and money.

I successfully killed a few pedestrians last night while driving around in free roam. It takes a little bit of patience and luck to get the conditions right so that they don't dodge, and you usually have to hit them a couple of times.

I also killed my partner by pinning him to a wall with my car and holding the gas down.
