Of course I have met informed voters, what kind of ridiculous question is that? If Trump had 80 million votes maybe I'd see your argument being more legitimate but it doesn't look like he will finish anywhere near that. I looks like he will finish around 74 million votes which is what he got last election. But that same vote total swung Trump from a 4.5 point loss in 2020 to a 3 point win in 2024. That screams Harris couldn't turn out the base.

Not really. Biden got way more votes than expected. That wasn’t a base election. Harris got the base to turn out, the people that didn’t turn out for her were the low information voters and you can see that by the polling data.

This election looks to be about turnout. Trump looks like he's only going to finish a little above the 74 million votes he got in 2020 when he lost by 4.5 points. But it was enough this time to win the popular vote by 3 points.

There is something north of 10M more ballots to count in the US and 5 million of those are in California alone. He probably ends up with a PV margin of about 2 points.

They decided to stick with Biden when it was obvious he would lose and look where we are now.
I thought you said it was Kamala Harris's fault.. but now it's the DNC's fault, and Biden's Fault.. get your fucking story straight because right now, you are all over the place throwing darts at the crowd.

Good call, didn't realize there were still so many outstanding ballots on the west coast (Utah too).

Something unrelated i'm curious about, how many voters actually vote for the president but not for the house/senate?

Checking PA for instance, there's one district I guess unreported, but otherwise a bit shy of 6.4m votes for house members, but a total of 6.8m for president. Assuming that last district is less than 400k, why the discrepancy?
I had a State seat that only had a Republican running. I skipped it.

I'm throwing darts at the DNC, which Harris is one of the most powerful members of (Biden too until he went senile). You can get mad all you want but I was the one shown to be right when I said the Democrats needed to hold a real primary and quit propping Biden up while all the liberals on the forum piled on and told me I was nuts and that no, people were doing great in this nation. It wasn't a hard thing to call, you just had to look at how wildly unpopular Biden was. If they held a primary with serious candidates there is no way Harris would have won it with Biden's stink all over her. Not that she did anything in the 2020 primaries before she had that anchor around her neck.

I do the same. I absolutely refuse to ever vote for a Republican so check no one in unopposed races with Republicans or in Republican Vs Libertarian races on my ballot. Two things I plan to die having never done: (1) buy a lottery ticket (2) vote for a Republican.

Hey, don't lump them together! With the lottery, there is an ever so slight chance that the outcome won't suck.

No, I don't need/want/deserve an apology. If anything, I apologize if my constant doomerism made this place unbearable. It really was not my intention. It was just a helpless feeling seeing all these warning lights go off - really, my ire is mostly directed at the feckless Democratic party, who was supposed to be a bulwark against this but now TWICE has been utterly swept aside by Trump and the GOP. Completely fucking useless.

Dems and their useless consultant class that apparently had ZERO insight into what the country was thinking. Yeah, hindsight was 20/20, but now looking back, how do you even let Kamala say "Yeah, I wouldn't do anything differently" ??????????? Just one of many gaffes along the way.

Yeah the Dems are relegated to the ash heap of history, and we are so, so absolutely fucked it is difficult to even put into words.

I get it, but I think it's true...there really isn't much to do differently here.

A lot of this has been an international backlash, for so many years now, against "incumbent," and this has been an especially bad run of 5-6 years across the world, where that has been the only constant. The world hasn't been stable, and the US has been the closest exception, maybe, but obviously isn't immune to this.

But overall: how do you message for a people that have been brought up on decades of lies about what the world is, how it works, who they are, why they should actually stop voting for the people that are literally making their lives miserable? Do you just lie to them better?

What are you supposed to do?

I asked you why I should watch it and you haven't given a good reason. And how can you not be pissed at the Democrats for losing an election that cost us the republic? Why should I be positive when Trump has just been elected with the powers of a king? Why should I be positive when Sotomayor's legal opinion is that Trump can order Seal Team Six to murder his political opponents with no legal repercussion? Am I supposed to think Trump, the man who says he will jail his opponents, the man who called on his brownshirts to assassinate Hillary Clinton, the man mentored by Roy Cohn, the man who instigated a coup when he lost the 2020 election, is not going to use these unchecked powers he now has? Why would my posts about this nation be anything but dark when confronted with this certainty?
Go do whatever the fuck you want. Nobody is making you watch it. I don't have to provide you with a reason. I don't deal in reasons.

I am supposed to be pissed at Democrats for losing the election? They tried to win, it was the goddamn republicans and their lying asses who lost it for us and the dumb ass voters who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, and your judgement is substantially questionable concerning where blame lies. You blame Democrats, not the shits who hoodwinked the voting public and the public who are stupid enough to fall for it. Get fucking real.

You crap like a stuck pig in this thread with your dismay and negativity. Find something useful to do with yourself.

I don't know man, but you are probably right. We are living in turbulent times with a lot of political upheaval. Seems like it's simply our turn to go through some things.

The war that Gingrich and the GOP started in the 90s has finally ended - they won.

Why did Kamala's campaign stop harping on P2025 (which was polling horribly) to all of a sudden pivot to parading around Liz Cheney?

Fire all these consultants and staffers.

It's an unfair game, the Democrats need really good candidates to counter the right wing media machine so they shouldn't be picking someone who never got any real support from the public in a primary. Biden should have been told to stand down or face a real primary challenge once he started going mentally. It's why I'm so pissed at the DNC clearing the field for Clinton in 2016 when Biden would have been a great choice (not as great as Bernie but that wasn't happening). He was sharp then and would have destroyed Trump like he did in 2020.

I just realized that Susie Wiles just did to the country what she had previously done to Ron DeSantis. That is, destroyed it! She got T rump to broaden his appeal to nonwhites and young men. I knew she was very good at what she does. And also very evil in who she does it for, Trump.

In the best case she would put that skill to use for the benefit of the country. Not counting on it though.

Biden isn't senile. He is old, but not senile, which what the RWNJs claim.

You are a bigger fool than you realize. You think a “better” candidate can counter the rights narrative across multiple media platforms? You are grasping at straws without looking at what’s been happening. A fucking right wing billionaire bought the biggest social media platform and you haven’t even given a thought about how that could have impacted anything. Let me know when you find this mythical Jesus candidate so I can show you how the right will turn them into the devil.

Oh, you are one of the uneducated people who don't understand how elections work or what purpose of an optional primary is for, which is not to chose a candidate, but to chose deligates. Those deligates don't even have to vote for who won the primary.

You do realize that when Biden stepped down anyone could have challenged her for the deligates for the DNC nomination, right? Yet, nobody did, and they wouldn't have if there was a primary either.

You sound like the same MAGA idiots screaming the same tiresome bullshit about her not earning the nomination because there was no primary.

They seem to me to be the closest thing the US has to a moderate, centre-left party.
Despite the internet propaganda, the national Democratic party is generally center left, but as a big tent and the nature of some local politics, there can be a bit of variation.

Center left only by the standards of the American overton window. For example on healthcare they're way to the right of the rest of the developed world.
