This is about drawing a line, not about the "harm" caused by one sign. If this was an issue that you supported, you'd probably understand that better.

I don't support establishment of any religion, and I certainly don't want the government involved in establishing religion. Neither one of those is the case simply because of some sign that's been there for 50 years. The fact is that probably 99% of the people have no problem with the sign there and it's not doing any harm, yet one twit has to have it removed. That's the same kind of idiot who will go to a store and get mad because someone said "merry Christmas" to her. There is no harm and not even intent to harm, then leave it be and move on with your life.

I know in my school that kid would have gotten a swirly every day for the remainder of her stay in school -- and deserved it.

You can say, where is the harm of the banner, but where is the harm of not having it?

If the vast majority of people want it there, then it should stay there unless it causes some sort of harm. I can see no possible way that this banner could cause any harm to anyone.

I'm an atheist and I think the girl who filed the suit is a whiny little wise and beautiful woman. It's a 50-year old mural for god's sake (no pun intended.)

This.

They aren't spending the schools money on bible camp she should stfu

I don't think it should be taken down. I do, however, think that there should be murals of an equal size, posted for each of all of the world's religions.

And a mural proclaiming Satan as king and extolling the nether regions.

And a Voodoo poster.

And a Yoruba poster advocating animal sacrifice.

And a antheist "God is a figment of your imagination" poster.

I'm sure our principled right-wing brethren will heartily support such an array of posters in public schools.

why not.

As long as the teachers dont preach any of these.

It makes a student feel like an outsider in their own school. That is harm. I'm sure that if we think about it we can come with many possible ways that this banner harms students.

What is always funny is if this school had a banner up espousing the wonders of Wicca, you'd see rightwingers getting that shit banned in a heart beat. To them freedom of religion means only they have the freedom to have religion, all the others can fuck off.

Nice false equivalency. Anyway, in your example a specific religion is being promoted. In the OP issue, is a specific religion being promoted?

If Ron Paul wins schools would be free to do this all they want.

The only thing Paul will ever win is a spot in the history books like Ross Perot as a meaningless expensive blip.

Perot was right about that giant sucking sound NAFA has brought but there was nothing he or anyone could do to stop the scam by the Corporatist s that own the Government from pushing it through.

Just because yu might be a minority and pissed on for decades, paid unfair wages, forced to ride in the back of the bus, and you put up with it, doesn't make it right just because it was tolerated "for decades". If it breaks the law, it breaks the law. Overlooking that fact for "decades" doesn’t somehow disqualify the illegality.
Come on... aren’t we over these silly fights?
School is no place for promoting religion.
There is a little white building with a steeple, probably one near your house, for the purpose of prayer. I think they tend to call it a CHURCH!
And BTW... Those golden arches are a fast food restaurant, not a church.
The little rooms with the sign on the door "MEN’S" or "WOMEN’S" are restrooms, not a church.
That big blue-white building with the sign over the doors "ENTER" and "EXIT" are Wal-Marts, not a church.
Do I need go on...?
I mean if I do, I can, for those still confused.

Public school? Yes? Separation of church and state? Yes? Pathetic American judicial system? Yes? What seems to be the problem then?

Take a World Religions course, it's as plain as day.

Hint: "Our Heavenly Father"

Why so mysterious? Did the Canucks lose or something? I am not religious, and am too damn old for some World Religions course. If you don't want to answer, why even say yes in the first place?

If my memory servers serve correctly, I can name two or three people of various religions who may have used the term 'heavenly father'. Hence my question as to what specific religion you think is being promoted in the poster. Sounds like you can't name the specific religion.

Christianity and only Christianity uses that term. Everybody knows this.

Apparently not. You said the hint was "heavenly father", so I looked that up. The article mentions Judaism, Christianity, Eastern Orthodoxy, Jehovah's Witnesses, Oneness Pentecostalism, Mormonism, Islam, Other religions, Hinduism and Confucianism.

"Heavenly Father" redirects here. For the recurring theme in mythology, see sky father.

God the Father is a gendered title given to God in many monotheistic religions, particularly patriarchal, Abrahamic ones
