SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A federal judge ruled Monday there is no constitutional right to carry a hidden gun in public - a decision that dealt a setback to gun-rights advocates who had challenged how much discretion California law enforcement officials have in issuing concealed weapons permits.

Good for the judges, NO where in the constitution does it say a person has a right to carry a concealed weapon.

NO where in the constitution does it say a person doesn't have a right to carry a concealed weapon. :awe:

Stupid literalists. Constitution is just a tad outdated.

All of these lawsuits will be merged and it will eventually go to the SCOTUS. Nothing to see here.

Nowhere in the constitution does it say a person DOESN'T have the right to carry a concealed weapon.

Bad for the judges.

There is no need to carry any gun, and soon it will be illegal to open carry here too.

Haha. Keep dreaming.

Gun laws are going the other direction....this is just a single ruling that means nothing.

In fact as of this year you can carry in national parks.

I agree.

You have the right to own them and hell, swing them around all you want in your own home and on your own property.. but to bring them out in public, there must be some kind of test.

Just like driving, it's not a right. It's an awesome thing we are allowed to do if we are qualified to do so.. and on that note, driving tests should be harder.

Also, flying isn't a right. It's a privilege. Security scans are a means to determine if you are allowed to fly - that there ticket, and this being the USA, is not a guarantee you can actually get on that aircraft and travel to your destination.

That being said, concealed or even open carry is something I wholly agree with.

And yes, it sucks that criminals won't worry about policies before carrying a firearm. That doesn't mean that the general public should be allowed to carry without testing. But it also should be an option, but I wholly believe it should be up to the States. Let them decide - it's not a federal issue, aside from the right to own weapons.

OP doesnt even read his own article. All this is saying is that the states dont need to be a "shall issue" state. They can be a "may issue state."

Meaning people can still carry.

It's cali, doesn't surprise me.

Legally, I can open carry without a permit in Ohio (last I checked) but I wouldn't want to simply because of how stupid scared people would be and probably call the cops on me constantly, wasting both their time and mine. Isn't worth the hassle.

Conceal carry requires a permit, which requires testing and background checks and all that. I think conceal carry > open carry at least because you don't have the stupid public going into mass panic over it as they can't see the "scary gun"

Here there is a test and you have to go to the range with your instructor and put a number of rounds down range.

But if a sheriff wanted he could refuse to issue a permit everyone, which I support.

Also there is a bill moving through that will ban open carry in the state.

So basically it is the status quo...nothing is changing. You thought that somehow concealed carry was banned now.

As far as the open carry bill...good luck with that.

I will be writing my legislator and state senator asking them to vote yes. I will also be writing to other legislators and pretending to be in their district and ask them to vote yes too.

Oh yes, be a liar to push your agenda. Nice of you.

Why not just be honest, ask your legislator to consider your position, and leave it at that? Why the need for dishonesty?

Gotta love infringing on other's rights illegally to uphold your perceived rights.
