I'm in I have BF2, I enjoyed it untill patch 1.4 came out. But to agree with previous posters: 2142 is an overpriced mod, IGA's and still paying full price is extortion, The whole slip of paper INside the box thing blows, and EA needs to learn their lesson and stop buying good companies to ruin their IPs.

I will never buy another EA game and Crysis will be warezed until Crytek finds a path to direct selling (ie. Valve's Steam) or the multiplayer is actually worth it, which is doubtful because of other great games on the horizon. Yea they redoing multiplayer from the ground up but there are other games with a shorter climb that have done it right already. Plus there's still CS:S and BF:2(when it stops the CTD's).

Fvck EA really should be a new division for them.

Now this is in-excusable

According to the Battlefield 2142 patch readme:

"Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running Battlefield 2142. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update."

Wondering what the Windows security update KB917422 does? According to Microsoft:

"A security issue has been identified in the Windows Kernel that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it."

First EA put spyware in the game which monitors your browser activity, and now they're asking players to uninstall vital security updates. Is it just me or does this game sound like more trouble than it's worth?

To be fair they've stated elsewhere that IGA does NOT monitor you web browsing and it only runs while the game is running. However, the security update that needs to be uninstalled is because they are monitoring your gaming and seeing which areas get more attention than others so as to advertise those areas more heavily.

It's sophisticated spam that costs $50.
man, those two guests were annoying.
The guy with the beard was pretty cool but the other guy was just high or filled with caffine or something. He could barely talk right.

also, I wish they'd discussed the required uninstalling of the windows security update.
Yeah, even if they are only doing it while you game it is still spying. The only difference is that you know they are doing it, you just don't know exactly how or when. Not to mention the purpose for which they are doing it is simply pathetic and lazy.

Those of you reading this not already on the boycott:

Do NOT remove that update. Just wait on EA to patch 2142 to work with it. That update is not a joke. You are setting yourself up for a 1, 2 punch. You'll have the patch removed and you'll be in an easy position for someone to find out you are vulnerable.

Some hacker is going to fire up a 2142 server, jot down every IP that connects to it and have himself a list of machines with a known vulnerability.

Let that sink in. Do NOT remove that update to play 2142.

Yikes! That would suck. Thanks for the heads up.

Well this is going pretty well. Theres 58 people on that list right now, so we've kept an estimated $2610 from EA's greedy hands so far. I just figured in a scost of $45 as this price website gave me a range of $39.99 to $63.99 (hella steep).

Exactly, and I'm sure most of us know how terrible EA's tech support is. You'd think a company that made so much money from games would be able to better support them rather then email you the common things to try that most tech's have tried already list, we are trying to make a game run not troubleshoot our whole computer.

I did not buy, and will not buy, BF2142 because of the practices of EA and Dice. I'm with others here in that it looks like fun, and I was one of the first to jump on the BF2 bandwagon, but EA's arrogance has been building for a while, and I'm not buying into it again.

EA, fix your software, quick using underhand tactics, and I will buy your game again!!

That's why we don't do the second part.

I agree, yes, that it won't work if people complain and keep purchasing. That's why we'll complain and not purchase. We've already kept around $2200 away from EA and that is just within this forum alone.

Oh please, same broken/faulty engine as the poorly supported BF2, spam on every map and a nice flip of the finger as soon as EA gets your money. Yeah, we're missing so much...."fun".

List updated and sent to OP.

Add me to the list. Im not buying a game with spyware (call it what you will, its SPYWARE). Also not buying it because they tell you to remove a security patch.

I don't think this boycott is going to affect sales much. BF2142 has only been out about a week, but is basically neck and neck for players with BF2 (which is finally getting bugs worked out after almost 1.5 years). So BF2 might lose some players to 2142, but even then, right now, BF2 has ~25500 players vs BF2142's 25400!!! Bah, it sucks when I see such crappy games with so many players on Gamespy's list. MoH:AA, CoD 1/2? Good single player, but the multiplayer has no comparison to good online shooters like DoD:S.

I didn't really plan to buy it initially (still content with my current games, no reason to spend $50 on something I barely would have time for, plus in 6 months there's going to be some amazing games out), but after all this BS I definitely am not so count me (though as I said I can't see all this negative attention affecting sales much at all sadly). I love BF2 and I'm still content with getting many many more hours from it. But from the 2142 demo, the game just felt like crap. Infantry is even worse than in BF2, so it ends up being a big tank/air war. I stick to the mostly city maps in BF2. But there is something about the BF games that makes them feel sloppy. Valve and iD's games are so damn polished. The engine and netcode in Source is amazing. Play CoD1 online just feels like multiplayer had very little focus.

QW looks to be amazing, and I think they will look at the many faults of BF2/2142 and make sure their game doesn't have the same issues. But I heard that it's only being built around like 24 players to a server? Bah, I always pick a 50-64 player BF2 game. 24 players just seems much too small for a largescale war game.
