Like I've said previously, this thread isn't concentrating on just the fact that they threw in in-game advertising when it isn't fitting or necessary but the fact that they did nothing but re-texture the original BF2, slap a $50 price tag on a mod, and hide the notice for the in-game advertising inside the box--leaving some without a return option.

It's just smelly all the way around, but if you like the game, hey I'm not going to stop you from playing it. I only think it's fair you extend the same courtesy and not try to stop others from boycotting it.

List updated and sent to OP.

where did i say anything about dont boycott it lol, i just said it wont change anything
someone would be blind literally to not see how obvious that its the ads that are whats concentrated on here, others here apparantly just dont like it cuz its buggy or its from EA, but most pc games are buggy for some upon release, many games still use the same old graphics engine....just be happy that all pc games dont have starforce

It's really not *that* bad. I don't regret buying it, but if I didn't have it already, I don't think I'd buy it now, knowing what I know.

It pisses me off that I have 2^32 colors and BF2142 is using six of them:

Orange
Green
White
Brown
Black
Grey

We're not looking to change BF2142, we're looking to let other developers/publishers know that the gaming community doesn't take kindly to under-developed, overpriced, and spamed-out products. Hopefully that will prevent a re-occurrence such as this from happening. That way we don't have to change anything but rather keep things how they are. :)

Sure the in-game advertising is a good bulk of this thread, but seeing how it is unfitting for the game and disabled a lot of buyers from returning it (due to the notice inside the box), how can you not expect to have a lot of conversation about it? That and there is the financial properties surrounding the advertising and how upon release they still expected people to shell out a normal $50 when it didn't even cost them a fraction of that to produce--or rather reproduce since all they had to do was retexture the environment.
I notice that my name is on the list. I originally wasn't going to buy it, but I caved and purchased it, so I should be removed from the list. It's not bad, but I like BF2 better.
Okay.

If you don't mind me asking, what was it about the game that made you cave in?

The fact that my friends were playing it. To be honest, there are very, very few games that I would buy to play on my own, especially on-line games. I resisted 2142 until I found out that about 7 people I know were all dumping BF2 for 2142. I enjoy playing with them, so I switched. Friends playing with you can make a crappy game somewhat fun.

Except for WoW, but that's another story.

1/3 of my clan bought it and played it for a month and a half, all while raving about how much better it is.

They're all back to playing BF2 with the rest of the clan now.

Enough said.

i think its probably more complicated than that, no doubt all developers are aware of all the buggy pc games, devs have no control over what publishers put in a game but if you have a fixed fund, x amount of employees also limited to their programming ability and x amount of machines to test it on, not to mention how much larger and less linear games are becomming, i'd say most cant make games as error free as they like.
look how huge gothic 3 is, so many variations the player can do, that would be alot of work and time to get it right the first time...although i do think alot more devs should make public beta's to help rid of many bugs but propriatary hardware and dev kits are what consoles advantage at for devs

so i dont blame devs at all, they work with what they got..publishers have to take huge amounts of risks..one poorly sold game could mean bankruptcy so they have to cut corners sometimes, even huge EA has to ensure thier future and make up for losses, i dont think theres any single end all solution anytime soon....boycotting games only hurts all of us as they either wont make a sequal, wont make it better or cut even more corners on another game...remember eidos anyone?

I don't get over to this forum very often, but I'd just like to say that I'm already boycotting it along with anything that has a hint of Starforce (see sig) coming along with it.

That is ridiculous.

What spyware?

I've stopped playing 2142 for now, because my cousin is big into BF2, so I play with him. BF2 is more fun.

They have spyware that monitors which sites you go to and puts ads for them in the game.

Unless something has changed, or that article is wrong, you're boycotting a game over something that isn't even real. Here is a link that shows how to block the ads completely.

Well then good for you- let IGA monitor how long you looked at an ad, what times during the day or night you are playing and how often, etc. Me- I think I'll pass on paying money to let a company know this about me and create a precedant for further "spying" by future games.

I also don't buy a game to have to read a 40+ page thread on how to disable ads I didn't want in the first place. No sale.

I'm wondering how much they're making from the ads. Is it enough to make the game... free? Free BF2142??? It claims to be a free trial, but someone in another forum said that the "trial" was an agreement to purchase the game when the "limited time" trial period was over. I'm trying to find out more info on this.

I didn't say I agree with what they're doing.

That's not really a valid complaint, because this thread isn't about how to cancel the ads in BF2142, EA has no control over these threads or the posts in them, and there are ways other than reading these forums to find out how to disable the ads (just like I did).

This whole ad thing has little meaning to me since everything under the sun is trying to spy on us, and there are always ways to block that, and I do. To me the issue is that once I really got into the game, I realized that the only reason I liked it was because I was playing it with friends. Playing the game by myself has proven to be boring as hell.

BF2, on the other hand, is at least passably fun for me to play alone.

I see where you're coming from and that's why I believe the game should still be boycotted ads aside.

Count me in.... so tired of EA and their b.s. and Battlefield is no exception to their issues... but NFS series has left very little to be desired... that latest edition is buggy as well.

I bought it and returned it. I was surfing the 'net and happened upon a thread about the in-game advertising on Xtreme Systems before I opened the box. Pretty sneaky of EA - by installing the software you are agreeing to the in-game SPAM and to be spied upon.

Of course, by the time you see this notice EA slipped-in the box its' too late, since no vendor will accept returns on opened software (unless "defective"). Fuc< that! I'll stick to BF2.

Rant over. Please add my name to the list!
