Put me on there. After the BS of the Spyware included with the disk, patch 1.01 going to be released on the day that the game is released, and just that it looks like a BF2 mod instead of a full new $60 game.

Done. I added you to the list I made and PM'ed the OP with the updated petition.

Add my name. This will be one of the few sequels I don't buy. The funny thing is usually I buy 2, for my Son and I to play multiplayer, but EA will receive 0 from me on this title.

Reasons:
1) Notice for adware within the box. If you don't agree to them good luck on returning an open box to any retailer. Very deceptive as many will only find out after it's to late to return it.
2) Built in Ads: I paid for the software and I still have ads? I have the same issue with games that are Pay Per Month. Just greed taking over.

If by genius you mean extortion, then it was certainly genius.

Regardless of the unlocks, Special Forces is a really great game and a great expansion. Yes, I can see the unfairness in it, but not all 2nd tier weapons were "ownage." Each gun is powerful used correctly. Take the PKM vs the MG36. Or the jackhammer and Mp7, two guns used in completely different ranges.

Spoken by someone who knows they've raped others with the FN2000, and needs to justify it. Sure, all of the weapons have particular strengths and weaknesses. I would have definitely said that the unlocks in BF2 were no better than the standard weapons, just different. But the SF weapons? By and large, they were better.

The M16 had good accuracy, a good amount of ammo, and the nade launcher, but was held back by it's standard sights and lack of full auto, and relative weakness. It was fairly accurate.

The G36 had full auto, but started spraying wildly much quicker. It was very damaging. It also held far too few bullets. It's sighting was no better than the M1. It didnt have a nade launcher, which was a huge disadvantage.

Between the two, I'd say they were fairly balanced.

Then the FN2000 comes in - has a scope, very accurate, very powerful, a nade launcher, plenty of ammo, and if that wasnt enough, flashbangs. It is plain and simply a better weapon than the other two in just about every way.

The 36E was also by far the best medic weapon, the mg36 is the only support gun thats actually usable due to its accuracy, the L96 was most definitely the most accurate sniper rifle, and the p90 would rape anyone with a mp5, any day of the week.

They really were overpowering. So much, that it bordered on legitimized cheating. Does integrity mean ANYTHING to EA? Why should I even think about buying 2142, if I know a few months from now, I'm essentially forced to upgrade in order to even remain on the same playing field?

Not only was it completely bullsh*t that they got to ruin stock BF2 with their super weapons, they had the nerve to start crying foul when they started getting TKed for their weapons.

as for 2142, well, at this point EA just got a little too greedy for my $$$, and they're not fooling me here, probably the typical teenager, but certainly not those that actually care where they spend their gaming money.

Well, we obviously agree on that.

Please keep this on topic, I am not suggesting that all EA titles are garbage, I am saying that due to my experiances with BF2 I will not buy the 2142 "Expansion" lol. If some of you want to Boycott EA all together ... be my guest.

On a side note I purchased Most Wanted (EA) and found the LAN play to be terrible, soon as a race ends it disconnects both computers...sigh.

genius in the sense that we're all here to make money, and for EA to make an expansion pack that added weapons to add flavor into the game is just that. Great idea.

Also, I don't know if you're talking to me but I have no concept of this FN2000 weapon you speak of. If you see my stats on my sig I don't even play Assault. In fact, I own using different weapons. You can't simply say that the weapon owns, skilled players own. I've been killed many many times from the G3 and G36C, even when they are up against my SF weapon. I don't know why we're here talking about SF, I could have sworn this topic was about 2142

If I'm not on that boycott list I will be upset.

When I heard there would be ingame advertisement, I made up my mind that I wasn't buying that crap because I doubt that even one penny of that increased revenue will go to patching bugs faster.

It might be different if they paid for the servers or if the advertising dollars went to server owners, but this is a crock full of crap.

What really pisses me off is how they are offerring instant ranks and unlocks just for buying it from a certain place... then turn around and erase stats for stats padding! Oh, you can BUY your ranks provided it makes money for us, but NO, you can't be clever to get them because that's not fair!

I'm fighting the good fight over in the news section of the TotalBF2142 forums, here and here, posting under my battlefield name 'nimski'.

I'm pretty miffed about it. It's nice to see these IGA scum bags on the back foot at least. You know... WTF is wrong with a simple JPEG or something? Instead you have to give ME a unique id number and track that? Fvckin crooks, that's all I can say.

What other software forces you do to that? Certainly nothing anyone would ever WANT on there PC, that's for sure.

Well if it can't be killed off then hopefully someone can at least make a program to spam random information back to the IGA servers.

Oh if there is going to be a list that will actually do something, then put me on it.

By the way how is this boycott going to take effect in what way?

ummm...remove me, guys. I took a good look @ the EULA and decided I was overstating the scope of the ads. I bought the game today and have played for about 3 hrs total. Lots of fun and I was kicking ass. I literally stabbed 7 people in a row in a round in some icy mashtur like map.

I've not noticed a single ad...

I will wait to see how this ad crap turns out. I sure hope that there is SOMEONE out there working on a fix for this BS. I really want to play NFS Carbon, and 2142 looks fun, but I dont care how annonymous the info they collect off of me is. I WILL NOT give consent to a corporation to track my online habits. They want to track my habits? Send over a pornstar with a pen and paper pad to write down where I go with no clothes on. THEN Ill let them track me.

Done. Took your name off and PMed OP. I think I agree with what Soviet said though.

They have to start somewhere, no matter how subtle. I'm not saying the ads are annoying, chances are they're probably pretty discrete, but that it is uncalled for to put spam on a game and then charge the consumer for it all while making a declination of the adware a declination of the game itself.

I was just talking to another member through PM's about this. While I certainly see the sense in discovering ways to block the adware, I don't think it is something that a boycott thread should concern themselves with. It isn't to create a work-around so the consumers can pay $50 for a game with spam and then figure out how to manually block the intended adware while praying that EA doesn't release a patch to correct our attempts.

I'm sure people could devise ways to play BF 2142 ad-free, but that's not the point. The point is to let EA learn that we do not approve of these kind of cheap corporate tricks and subpar products.

Let me make myself heard on the "Advertising" issue...there are a lot of products out there that offer versions of their software for FREE...the catch? Spyware, Adware, call it what you will. If EA is going to put ads in the game that we will undoubtably see...then the game should be FREE! I can just about promise you if EA is able to garner any interest from big spenders (University of Phoenix) to use this system...look out...every game known to man is going to implement this sham in every title from PIZZA HUT TYCOON to BLOOD THIRSTY HOOKERS. The only way to make this madness stop cold in its tracks is to NOT BUY THIS GAME! When other companies see what an utter failure it is...WE WIN!

I'm still waiting on someone with the game to give me a network trace so I can take a preliminary peek.

How do I return a preorder from Best Buy? Do I just go in and they give me my $10 back considering I opened the preorder box. Or should I go pay the rest for the game and then immediately return it getting my full $50 back?
