JJ May Just Save the Star Wars Franchise...

There is no hope....

I mean, once they started the MEGA COOL ULTRA FAST light-saber battles in 1-3, it was all-over from there. People are too stupid to appreciate a good story line and a simple sword fight. IT MUST BE A DOUBLE SWORD!!! OMG... At least they keep with the story line decently well... Also Anakin was a HORRIBLE actor in 2-3, 2 being the worst.

How is the technology in episodes 1-3 better/more advanced than 4-6? It makes no sense....

not a chance in hell that the internet doesn't rage over this movie no matter what happens. it's destined to have the internet hate it. 100% guaranteed.

Easy, you pretend 1-3 never happened, like I do. 🙂

"A New Hope"

I firmly believe these will be good movies. As good as 4-6? Probably not because nothing could live up to the mystic and history around them. 1-3, weren't just bad Star Wars movies, they were atrocious movies by themselves (I still will argue that Ep2 was one of the worst things ever shot on film). I have complete faith that these next movies will be solid movies on their own and worthy to carry on the SW franchise.

I've not watched or read anything about the sequels in an effort to suppress getting my hopes up for these like I did the 1-3, which I think most everyone on the planet did (other than children, who loved them just as we love 4-6). I just hope Abrams watched the Red Letter Media videos and takes every bit of advice from them.

Ok

I pooped

Simon Pegg did it for me.

I think JJ had to fail at star trek to get this right. Thats the hope I have at least.

The real sets and model work were breathaking. I seriously will not watch ANYTHING else about the movie till it shows.

Best thing I ever did was stop reading Harry Knowles back in the day before ep 1 released.

I was at the Mann's Chinese premiere in LA and I may fly down to watch it there as a family trip. Is that crazy?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: use practical effects whenever possible. It looks infinitely better than CGI.

am I the only one who didn't hate 1-3?
Sure they were stupider and more commercial, but I don't see the big deal about it.
That's how movies are today, it's what the market demands.
Add in nostalgia, and you will hate any new movie.

Name something that doesn't have SOME internet hate? I seriously think that the hate will be misguided this time around -- it will be unjustified internet-angst that attempts to shoot these down. I think the resounding review will be "not bad, not bad at all.." to "holy balls - awesome!" There will be the vocal minority that will pick it apart (like everything online) in an attempt to go against the grain.

1-3 were just horrible movies. There was little to no redeeming quality about them. Name me one scene that you thought was "good" and well executed.

This kind of marketing is meant to ensure that he does regardless of whether the movie is any good or not.

All aboard the hype train, next stop, December!

There is that long video where a critic takes Episode 1 to pieces. Its pretty brutal, but the arguments are convincing. I remember the guy has a weird voice and there is some joke about him kidnapping someone.

Anyway, I think some of the arguments he makes are spot on for why Episode 1 is a bad movie, not just a bad Star Wars movie.

I do think JJ Abrams is probably the best man for the job. Bringing back the models is a good sign. So is booting all of Lucas's story ideas.

I like the third one, the first one would be ok if that stupid kid wasn't in it. The second film is a true abomination; it's pretty much unwatchable.

I think w/ Star Trek, he felt free to really do what he felt like doing.

But with Star Wars, he has a certain level of awe and feels a duty to get things right, as determined by everyone else, not just what he envisions.

I certainly appreciate actual sets and actual film - he's one of the directors that I'll support regardless, because he has dedicated himself to propping up Kodak so that he can continue shooting with real film. Nothing matches it still, we're quite some time away from digital sensors matching the potential of film.

Too bad he didn't choose 70mm. Man, epics deserve 70mm (15 or 5 perf), and Star Wars would be so awesome with 70/15.
I can't wait for The Hateful Eight due to its use of 70/15 (and also, it's Tarantino. 'nuff said)

As important to me as the props, effects, capture, etc......will be the roles.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, make the old character's roles worth while. Make them meaningful and don't let them.....PLEASE DON'T LET THEM......insult our intelligence!!!

I don't need to see Harrison Ford pull another "Crystal Skull". I need him to have a meaningful role that embodies the depth of the original character and the original story......NOT a bunch of failed attempts at embracing some new audience and bending & flexing the original character to make everyone happy.

Ditto for Luke

The reel looks great, no doubt!! I like what I see. I feel like I need to read the script to make sure it doesn't get @#$%'d up!!!

PLEASE JJ, do not #@^%!$ this up!!!!

If you think episode 2 was one of the worst things ever shot on film, give Highlander: The Source or The last Airbender a look sometime. There's no comparison. I found episode 2 to be mediocre, which is to say a massive disappointment compared t o 4-6, but short of a few scenes between Hayden and Portman it was watchable. We seem to live in a world now where nothing can be a 5. Everything is either a 0 or a 10. 😛 Some movies though are so awful that I'm cringing in my seat from start to finish and feel embarrassed that I'm watching such things.

ill say it again. your a brother from another mother!

HELL YES!!!!!

I used to color correct film and video for broadcast and I have been worried for some time that ARRI would fail and the industry would be forced to adopt full digital. In some cases I am fine and would prefer digital but nothing will ever compare to real film in a real camera being helmed by someone like Dante Spinotti or Bob Richardson.

I watched Bob work and the artistry and experience those guys have will bever be replaced by the current gen of guys unless they cut their teeth on analogue.

Look at music production. The death of 2 inch tape has destroyed sound quality imo.
Now before anyone says that a bunch of people use 2 inch tape they are mixing down to it instead of recording to it.

I remember the beatles saying that SGT pepper was almost lost because they had so many layers the medium got so thin it almost broke before the first transfer.

No, you're not alone.

Now let's just sit back and wait for the "you're an idiot for liking the prequels" posts from a certain member here.
