If it were players going on on their own and getting this stuff, I would consider it more "minor." However, word is that Tressel himself was setting some of this stuff up, AND he was covering it up for years, lying, etc. THAT is the major part.

Like you said, WORD IS. That's the problem I've had with this thread from the start. A number of you are operating under the notion that this is all fact. The fact is that Tressel didn't fully disclose knowledge of infractions. Call me biased all you want, and maybe I'm a pessimist, but I assume that's part of every head coach's job: I'm sure if Tressel marched into Gene Smith's office every time he saw a flashy car in the 'Shoe's parking lot or a new tattoo on someone's arm, he'd have had some real job security 🙄 . Part of his job is to buffer the university.

Like it or not, that's college football. If you can't stomach it, watch synchronized swimming.

Hate the game, not the player.

It's a 300Z. Give me a break!
How many college girls do you see wearing Uggs and driving Range Rovers? A ton.

I'm sure his mom can afford a 300Z lease. (especially if given a discount! zing!)

Well, in all fairness this is what... car #7? 😉

Jim Tressel is a liar and a fraud. Whether or not he agrees with them, it is his job to uphold the NCAA rules and regulations. In that regard he not only failed, but he openly flaunted them.

The rules themselves are a different story. I believe that most people see the NCAA as a corrupt organization with an arcane and impossible-to-enforce set of rules that require "student-athletes" to do the near-impossible.

I'd be very surprised if this jackass ever takes a snap again.
I agree.
With all this digging, they will definitely find something to ban him for the rest of the season.
He won't get drafted as a quarterback either.
If he stays fit, he might go as a WR. He's still tall, fast, and very talented.

We know all to well what 1 season off can do to a college player.
Just look at Maurice Clarrett. 🙂

Yeah, Clarrett was the first person I thought about when hearing about the Pryor fiasco. Amazing that he and the others couldn't wait a year to get pimp money. These guys can get any pu$$y they want yet it still isn't enough. Sad.

It's every coach's job to look the other way about NCAA rule violations? Their job set them up, cover it up? Are you out of your mind?

When they can get away with it? Hell yeah it's their job. It happens every day at every school. I'm not out of my mind, you're just delusional. If even a fraction of the coaches were as honest as you say they ought to be, we'd be seeing schools cough up infractions every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I wonder if the NCAA will take any special measures on this one as they do have a little egg on their face here. After all, they let those players play in the bowl game and now look like even greater fools for doing so.

It's not honesty that makes most coaches keep their players in line with NCAA rules, it's NCAA penalties. What coach in their right mind isn't establishing a covert or not network of contacts that are looking over the player's shoulders and making sure they adhere to the rules. You've got all those assistant coaches and assistant to assistants. By the time you divvy it all up one person would probably have 5 or so students to keep an eye on. These guys have been involved in college athletics from the time they were college athletes, you mean to tell me when something out of the ordinary occurs no one notices? I worked in a factory for 30 years where people made real good money, if someone were to roll up every month with a new fancy car people would notice. Now, put that person as being one of these starving college students that live mostly on ramen noodles and no one notices that Terrelle Pryor is living in a downtown loft?

Now, in your defense I will say there is a LOT of dirt in college football, but it seems right now the NCAA is going after the low hanging fruit. That would be where it seems the coach lied to cover his ass and where the players were not smart enough to cover up their illegal perks as well as others elsewhere.

Former player Jon Thoma weighs in on the perception of Jim Tressel:

<<<To some of us, there were different priorities, and becoming a man under the watchful eye of millions around the world was too much. George Dohrmann from Sports Illustrated suggested that Jim Tressel lost control of his football team. Quite the contrary. The Ohio State Football culture took over Columbus. Coach was the only reason there WAS any control on this football team. Ask the troubled former receiver. Ask the star quarterback. Our mistakes occurred away from his watchful eye.>>>

If the mistakes occurred away from Tressel and he was aware of it, then yes, he lost control of his team and should have just admitted the infractions. This kid quoting 2Pac is funny.

The signings for cash, which would be a violation of NCAA rules, occurred a minimum of 35 to 40 times, netting Pryor anywhere from $20,000 to $40,000 that year, the former friend says.

The source said he spent nearly every day with Pryor before their relationship soured when Pryor began taking on a more "arrogant" attitude after his 2009-10 season.

He said Pryor would get the merchandise to sign from Talbott, who would "bring it to TP, and he would sign it and he would bring him cash. Dennis would give him cash." He said he witnessed the transactions occur about three to four times a week at Pryor's apartment.

The former friend said Pryor would spend his money lavishly at times, that the player had a "shoe fetish" and bought many expensive hats, belts and pieces of jewelry. He said he was particularly fond of Gucci items. ESPN independently confirmed Pryor made multiple such purchases.

Lol, now the truth is really starting to come out. The only thing missing is a foot fetish video with TPeezy and Tressel.
