Here is a clear explanation. It's a film. That 'explanation' is a sad attempt to find some sort of method to Lucas' last two bombshells.

Episode II r0x0r3d my dog.

Bombshells? Hardly. I think TPM was extremely overhyped. I was pleased with the product because I wasn't expecting the absolute best. Nothing can replace the magic of the original trilogy.

AOTC was great. I liked it better than ROTJ and TPM.

ANYWAY, The question will hopefully be answered in the final film....

Could be.

Another example of this is that in the original trilogy Obi-Wan says that Yoda was his master and now we know that it was infact Qui-Gon Ginn.

Well, maybe there was more to it than what we saw in Episode I. Maybe Kenobi was taken in or something and given to Ginn at the last moment of the early stages of his training or something.

It's going to take more than special effects, B-Movie acting, and college film writing intern scripts to make up for the last two movies Lucas put out. If he wanted to ruin Star Wars, he sure picked the best of the best to do it with him.

Yoda should have trained Luke with the saber. He would have made hamburger out of Vader...

didn't luke run away from him before yoda got a chance to finish instructing him? its his own fault, he could have let everyone die, and then could have minced vader and the entire empire by himself afterwards...

Well, supposedly. But he went back later for "training" and Yoda turned him down (and died, and disappeared :p). Yoda could have kept him there with his mind-trick, though. But that wouldn't be the Jedi way, I suppose. Still... Luke seemed to be pretty good. I wonder where he did his training with the saber...

Yeah, he did. In the book, on the shuttle while escaping, the body disappeared. What was burned at the end was the shell. The suit.

i think the obi-wan disappearring thing was just so he could come back later and give the pep talk to luke in the empire strikes back :p There are multiple instances of powerful jedi NOT poofing, and only 1 example of a confirmed poof.

edit: die george lucas, die.

A friend of mine said it best in an email to me about a recent Star Wars 3 spoiler email:
someone please cast a voodoo spell and raise Irvin
Kirshner from the grave. He's the only director with a speck of talent
to have had anything to do with a Star Wars film. And then of course
there's the fact that Lucas, in addition to not directing, had
little-to-nothing to do with the writing of Empire Strikes Back, either.
Huh. Funny how these things line up...

STAR WARS 3, SPOILER EMAIL CONTENTS:

The upcoming last Star Wars film will be called Star
Wars Episode 3: The Rise Of The Empire. The film will
focus on Anakins tragic decision to follow the dark
side and his part in the gradual extermination of the
Jedi order during the clone wars. Samuel L. Jacksons
character Mace Windu will be killed by Anakin in which
this scene should be the most eagerly anticipated
death in the entire series. At the end of the film,
there will be a climactic battle between Obi-Wan and
Anakin in which the evil Anakin is so badly wounded
that he has to wear the jet black mask and breathing
suit. Star Wars Episode 3: The Rise Of The Empire is
planned to be released on Thursday the 19th of May
2005.

More like George Lucas being a bloody wanker by not following the books that everybody has accepted before the movies came out.

The "seeing Yoda fight" comment is dead on...

I just saw this again this weekend in the IMAX theater, wow! :)

When Yoda walked in before his fight, the whole audience cheered, I think they *might* have known what was coming. ;)

The only other time they cheered was when "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." came on the screen. :D

I remember seeing TPM on the very first day it came out. The audience roared when that came on the screen, you could almost not hear the loud sound that plays when "STAR WARS" shows up on the screen. :)
