The answer is that Lucas is the MetaForce. The source of the Force and what we would identify and an omnipotent god. As such he is able to create a universe where logical inconsistencies abound. Rather disorganized God to me.

I'd like to see the URL, also. I'm not saying that I disagree with you or anything - in fact, I agree with you - but I do want to see some sort of official proof.

I need to go back and do some reading, but I believe that ffmcobalt is actually wrong in his explanation. In the Champions of the Force series it explains how kun is actually defeated, not killed. His body was destroyed by the jedi (it did not dissapear) and he was condemmed to the rest of eternity as a shapless entity who could still change physical things around him. The good Jedi of the time condemed him to this after a long fight because they were not powerful enough to kill him outright. This does not solve the debate about the dissapearing and not-disapearing jedi but it does address ffmcobalts "explanation".

BTW, if you disagree with me ffmcobalt please read the book before flaming me. I know that it's not your cutsomary response to actually have proof before flaming, but mabe try it this once? if you can prove me wrong then I would love to be corrected.

HAHA - he puts on the flame suit even before the end of the post. I like it. :D

Anyway, I was just going to say that destroying bodies and condemning souls to hell... doesn't that sound like dying to you? ;) And you make it sound like the jedi are some kind of warlock or mage or something. Seems strange, but if you remember the book more clearly than I do, more power to ya.

When Obi Wan died it was because he was ready to. He actually disappeared before he died. He was in a sense struck down in battle, but he saw it coming and was allowing it. When Qui Gon died he was mid battle and not ready for it. None of the jedi in the colleseum were ready to die yet either.

Thats the answer, ask if you got any questions, Ill clarify better.

Ah, I was reading all the post and this one is right on. OBi-Wan was willing to die and thus gave himself to the force so that Luke and the gang could have time to escape.

Yoda, was old and kne wthat Luke was powerful already. I think yoda waited for Luke to show up, before giving himself to the force, thus making Luke even stronger, Since Jedi can see visions of the future he knew Luke would confront Vader, and would need all the strength to over come him. Or it could have been to make Anikin stronger and able to overcome the emperors mind control.

The strange thing is that Yoda himself says in one of the movies that only the dark side can see the future.

Hmm... is it a movie? Or did Yoda say it in a book I read...

well, doesn't matter, because Lucas is always right :|

As far as I remember (I am actually flipping through the 3 book series right now) they could not actually "kill" him. He was so powerful they mearly destoyed the body. I guess this in turn condemed his spirit, but it does not say that the jedi actually did this. I am still very peeved about lucas changing so much. I mean, how many here had heard of the mediclorians (sp?) before ep 1? I am hoping he decided to stray away from that as it is not mentioned at all in ep 2. The whole dissapearing thing still annoys me, if anyone comes up with a more feasible explanation, let me know.

BTW, nik, have you read desitny's way yet? I have not been able to and was wondering what others thought about it, supposedly it is going to be the turn of the war.

I knew about medichloreans quite a while before EP1. :) I haven't read Destiny's Way, yet, but I think that's one of the four books that my buddy Mark (the Star Wars Guru) keeps pestering me to read. That and the ones after EP6 where Luke + Leia actually kill the emperor, the one where Luke first starts up the Jedi Academy, and one other-I can't remember.

The one where luke starts the acadamy.... I have read that one but cannot remember the name of it. I have heard of luke and leia killing a clone emperor, but I am pretty sure it is in a comic book.

I am actually very curious as to where you heard about medichlorians before ep 1? I have read every star wars book out (besides desitny's way) but have neglected reading the comic books as they always seemed a bit cheesy to me.

I heard about them from Mark. :) I don't know if the emperor's death is a comic book version or a book version, but apparently it's the death that kills him - or what's left of his spirit or something like that. Damn you, Mark, for going into the Navy and throwing your stuff away or putting it in storage or taking it with you!!!! :)

Ok, I don't think this was mentioned in this thread (but I skipped past anything that looked like an Episode 3 spoiler):

According to some fansite I saw somewhere awhile back (it was years ago, back when they started talking about killing Chewbacca off, maybe even before Episode 1 was released): The Star Wars books are NOT binding on the official Star Wars Universe. Only the movies can be considered "doctrine." In other words, Lucas does not need to follow ANYTHING in the books when he makes movies. After all, everything that happens in the books is the product of someone else's mind, not Lucas's.

Heck, just think about what a mess Episodes 7, 8, and 9 will be if they have to obey all the rules/plots of all fifty books that took place after "Return of the Jedi."

And, let's face it, if ANYONE owns the Star Wars Universe, it's Lucas.

And I think the "Jedi who are prepared for their own death can merge directly with the Force" theory is the most likely one I've read so far in this thread. Smacks of Vulcan mind-meld "Search for Spock". :p

EDIT: BTW, the emperor's clone saga was from a comic book. <-- Had me confused for a long time.
