When Darth Maul killsQui Guan(sp) why didn't he dissapear like Obi One does when Anakin/Darth Vadar kills him? Was Lucas saying he wasn't really a Jedi? Wasn't really dead?

Lucas has addressed the issue and said it would be answered, but I thought it was gonna be answered in Episode II. Probably in Episode III, though.

Jedi, if they're strong enough, disappear. That's how it happens. And their spirit has the ability to roam. Some spirits, if the jedi was strong enough, can actually do things in the after life. Anyone heard of XarKun? The guy that wrote this article is a numbskull. If you're not strong enough in the force, you don't disappear. Big effin deal.

Uh... no. I think we need a more official explanation. The expanded universe is nice and all, but official "doctrine" can be changed easily with a movie or two...

XarKun was strong enough in the force to be able to wield a single sided lightsaber in each hand (only 2), and control two more that floated out in front of him, or behind him, or wherever with the force. Well, either that or he was the inventor of the double-bladed saber. I don't remember which right now. I'm tired. When he was finally killed after his reign of chaos, his spirit roamed the planet that he was killed on and was able to kill people.

If George Lucas can change anything he wants in the movies, that's fine with me. But when he starts bullsh|tting simply because he wants to be a little more creative, and ends up negating several dozen books before the movies (in chronology), that's where I start complaining.

I can find out, yeah. My buddy Mark had it before he left for the navy.

Will the disappearing mystery be solved?

Q. I was disappointed that Clones didn't answer the question why some Jedi disappear when they die and some don't. Will this ever be answered?
That's a good question. A really good question.

A. Rick McCallum (Producer): Only George [Lucas] knows that answer for real. Hopefully it will be illuminated in Episode III. I've asked him a dozen times and he always looks at me like, "What? Are you a fan?"

Wasn't all the Exar Kun stuff in comic books? I know his spirit made an appearance in Kevin J. Anderson's Jedi Academy trilogy. But other than that, I can't recall right now if he was ever in any other books. He was around like 4000 years before the events of the original trilogy and I don't know how many (if any) novels were written that take place in that time period. There's probably a novel chronology compiled somewhere on the Internet.

Then I read the quote more closely. :)

Could the explanation be something as simple as Lucas' own failure as writer and director?

That he ignores or forgets the mythology he created?

Here is a clear explanation. It's a film. That 'explanation' is a sad attempt to find some sort of method to Lucas' last two bombshells.

Or blatantly changes it at his whim and negates books and comics in the past that have been widely accepted. :| Lucas is a WANKER. But that aside, it's quite possible for him to have failed. But with such a huge fan base and such close attention to detail, there's got to be a good reason that someone didn't speak up and go "okay... why he no go poof too!?"

Could be.

Another example of this is that in the original trilogy Obi-Wan says that Yoda was his master and now we know that it was infact Qui-Gon Ginn.
