Sounds like the way politics works. You hire people to help you make decisions.

And the difference is huge between dumping water on someone and murdering an American. You are comparing apples and door knobs.

I'm really not. You're making excuses for horrible violations of human rights.

If having top legal experts is a good reason for Bush to torture people it's a good reason for Obama to drone strike people.

The reality is neither is ok.

They are all custom.

Hex is on a Tarrot X6 frame, quad some junk frame and the flying wing is on a Skywalker X8. Motors and electronics are all custom. The X8 is going to be a bad boy. Pretty soon it will be able to fly 200km or more and carry a six station camera that can scan down to cm from 500 feet.

The topic was stupid. We made it better.

200KM? Impressive!

Although, unless you plan on having it below 400ft and a shit load of spotters I think the FAA is going to require you to get a certificate..

I'm quite impressed with his drone army. This thread is no longer about,... Wait? This was a thread on Jeb Bush and global warming? It's now about Rudeguy's drone army.

How difficult were the custom electronics? Does that include all the programming? GPS, etc.? Is it designed so that if there's a failure, it can self-correct and continue back home? Could it use a cell phone's data connection to send you real time video?

The electronics can be as simple or complicated as you want them to be. These are for commercial use, so they are on the more complex side. There are some really great GUI programs for programming them or you can do it yourself. Most of the autopilots are arduino based, so the code is very simple. The hardest part is tuning them, but that's just trial and error user preference.

Video is sent via a dedicated receiver/sender. Cellular might work but you can get very decent range with rf and it's less weight. The main camera we will use is too high resolution for that, so we'll have to rely on SD cards.

GPS is a must. That's what the round antenna is. They will return to the launch spot if they lose radio signal or the battery goes low and will land wherever they are if SHTF. The autopilot does all of that very easily. It also levels out flight and will be huge when we are doing 30,000 acre fields. Just program the route, launch it and let it do its thing.

And yes we applied for an FAA waiver. We already run an airline and an airport, so we have a couple connections with the FAA.

200km/1 hour is my goal. We'll see how close I get. We have 4 14s batteries just for this. If that doesn't cut it, I'm putting solar panels on the wings!

So CIA captured a guy, sent it up the ladder to see if they could use different techniques than normal, Bush consulted with a shit ton of advisors including AG.

I'm not seeing where I was wrong. Did Bush wake up one day and decide he wanted people water boarded?

Bush didn't consult so much as ordered his legal advisors to come up with some warped legal justification for torturing people. Just because the executive legal team comes up with some bullshit to justify a policy doesnt mean it is truely legal or just. Obama afterall had his legal team draft up legal justification for killing US citizens abroad. Clearly doesnt make it right nor legal.

And why would Bush one day decided we need to torture people?

Jesus. That's what 50+ volts per battery?

I've got a DJI Phantom 1 quad and a GoPro Hero3+. I'm trying to decide if I want to go FPV with it.

If I do I'll add:
  • 3Axis Gimbal with Pitch Control
  • Immersion 600mw 5.8GHz TX
  • Telemetry Module
  • Clover Leaf antenna.
  • LCD and receiver

so something like this:
Special-FPV-Phantom-quadcopter-set.jpg

Of course with the added weight and power draw I'll need to go up to 9inch props from 8. I'm mostly limited by battery power. Stock is a 3S 2200mAH and 10-15 minutes of flight. I can mod the battery compartment for a 4000mAH battery if I have too.

Is waving a gun over your head, running toward a crowd, shouting, "I'm going to kill all those mf-ers" reasonable grounds for a police officer to shoot the person waving the gun? I kind of think it is, especially if there's no other way to intervene, and the police take the threat seriously. That seems to be nearly the exact case for those drone attacks - a serious threat of death to other citizens with no other reasonable intervention. I'm certainly not going to lose sleep over this. It's only an issue because people want something to hate Obama for. Had it been Bush, we would instead be hearing from the right, "Bush is tough on terrorism." "Hear" isn't quite the right word though, since many cannot pronounce "terrorists" or "terrorism" correctly. :p

That depends. Is it a 12 year old waving a gun around shouting about killing mf-ers? Because if it is, then Democrats insist that everyone should stop and talk to to the child, find out why they're acting out, maybe give them a time out. Shooting is definitely out of the question.

Unless it's Obama pulling the trigger and blowing away some kid, then it would be cool.

We have a 3 axis on the hex, its a pain in the ass. From here on out its 2 axis only. Less weight and easier to handle. Tuning the gimbal took longer than tuning the hex.

And the power management is my big PITA. Nothing can handle 50V, so I'm stuck trying to figure out how to do that but still get flight time up. We also have 6 monster 6S 22V batteries. I'm liking that option better. Wire them up, throw in a UBEC and call it good. Of course the cameras will run on a smaller battery.

I still can't decide on a good mounting solution for the interior of the X8. I need to make something stable but also light. I tried custom forming Kydex but its not sturdy enough. Wood will work but that will be even more weight and nothing is square, so I'd have to buy a jigsaw, belt sander and God knows what other tools. I think I'm going to take a trip down to the hobby store and see if I can get some inspiration.

Even the Pentagon announced that climate change is a threat to national security. Don't forget , most of our large bases are on coastlines. It seems to me that Republicans truly believe if they tell a lie long enough it makes it true.

But you will note the Pentagon wont cut back on its pollution. The military is probably the biggest contributor of greenhouse gases as an organization in the world. I honestly cant think of any other organization that would come close.

Michael Jackson would have if he was still alive. He loves to touch things.

Jeb is 100% correct. I agree with him. This is an obvious truth. Anyone who says differently is lying or misrepresenting the data.

Jeb said:
"For the people to say the science is decided on this is really arrogant, to be honest with you," he said. "It's this intellectual arrogance that now you can't have a conversation about it, even."

Jeb is 100% correct again. If ANY scientist says the science is "settled", he should be booted from his position. He lacks the intellectual curiousity and basic knowledge of the scientific method needed to hold that position.

Holy crap, Jeb is starting to look pretty good. He has the scientifically correct approach to global warming.... (Obama's biggest failing).

This post applies:
He's right. We just don't know the numbers. It could be 93, 95 or even 98%.
We just don't know.

How can we do anything until we understand this with extreme levels of precision?

You missed the memo that science runs on "consensus" now. Which is why after we completely transform our lifestyles to meet the carbon challenge, we're going to pass laws requiring Trident gum ("4 out of 5 dentists recommend it to their patients who chew gum").

Ironic, given that at least one of the "scientists" who currently shills for big oil against MMGW has a past history of shilling for big tobacco against cigarettes causing lung cancer. It's telling that many of the same rubes fell for both.

Leaded gas/paint. Conservatives seem to have trouble following the money trails. Money is free speech after all. Can't tell the difference between researchers being paid no matter what results they may find vs. researchers being paid to find specific results.

Jeb is right on the first part, but not the 2nd.

The science is clear that things are changing, and that man is a big factor. It has not figured out if man is the primary, but that is very different than saying its undecided on the fact that things are changing for the worse.

Settled can mean very different things. Its not "settled" in that it knows 100% every factor of climate change. It is "settled" in that science can settle things. We don't everything there is to know in the field of chemistry, but we don't say chemistry is not "settled". Inherently in science, there is an understanding that there could be more to learn about any subject. There is also an understanding that you do not need to know every detail about something to make use of the knowledge we do have about a subject.
