It’s time to bring down more statues

We are going to have to carve Washington’s face out of Mt Rushmore by the end of it. This doesn’t heal race relations. I can understand not wanting to glorify astrocities of our past but trying to scrub it clean isn’t the way to go either. Jackson Square is a hallmark of NO, it would be a travesty to take it down.

Serious question, should Washington be removed from Mt Rushmore? And should it no longer be Washington DC but rather just the District of Columbia? How do we handle the state of Washington?

I'm sure you think you are making some sort of point,

More importantly, how do we handle faux outrage?

Wish I knew because there’s tons of it going around. Everyone "offended" over ever damned thing. I live in Louisiana and the vast majority of black people whom I’ve heard discuss either didn’t care about the statues on way of the other or view it as Mitch's effort to get into the national spotlight.

My point is where does it stop? George Washington owned slaves, we certainly shouldn’t be celebrating him with the capital and a state named after him or his giant face engraved on a mountain. Think of the pain so many go through every day knowing that.

To faux outrage, lets add false equivalence.

I don't believe in whitewashing or wiping history clean due to someone not liking something people used to do in the past. Thing is, the vast majority of people have far more important things to be concerned about.

How does that go? A yes, something like 'cool story bro'.

I think the Columbia part would be worse than the Washington part for most people that were against Washington. Also Washington wasn't a traitor of the US and wasn't partially responsible for the death of 600,000 people for the right to enslave an entire race of other people for the benefits of the ultra wealthy.

Edit: And those things weren't named after him, and statues of him weren't built to intimidate black people by white supremacists, in a time closer to modern day than the civil war (i.e. the 1960s). Almost all of these statues were built as an F-U to blacks who wanted civil rights, and had nothing to do with remembering or honoring history.

So thus far we’ve established it’s ok to celebrate people who’ve owned slaves, it just depends on what side of the civil war they were on? Trying to understand the logic. There’s been one actual response thus far with something legitimate to say, they rest is just "oh your so concerned" type bs which is the sign of someone with nothing to say.

Edit: two responses, sorry I missed one

Yes, actually.

All presidents should be removed from Mt Rushmore and the land should be returned to the Sioux as it is their sacred land, confiscated to make those hideous, pointless faces. It's a goddamn awful monument, anyway. Have you been there? It's dirty, pointless, and the only thing in that plaza is a giant gift store selling shitty chinese-made Americana pablum and is completely staffed by temporary-guest Russian teenagers (I shit you not).

Too much reality, man.

Maintaining huge abstract chunks of rocks cut into particular shapes is critically important for the future of our country.

Also: pizzagate.

Of course it matters which side of the Civil War they were on. Those who fought for the Confederacy fought to protect and perpetuate the institution of slavery.

The amount of circle jerking when this guy posts is amazing.

@zinfamous So you think the land should be given back eh? Then may I ask, to whom? Tricky thing is that the Natives were just like any other people and they went to war. My guess is that you want to give it back to the Lakota as it was "sacred" to them. Nevermind that they took control through violence.

History is messy.
