I didn't mean to derail the thread. honest :D. I'm just saying, from what I've seen, I can't imagine people in their 20-30's would act the way they do on the WoW forums. If you even once think the maturity level of the forums here is bad, go browse the WoW forums for half an hour.

There are a lot of older people playing, I'll give you that. It'd be interesting to see statistics, because from what I've heard this is a game that's attracting a lot of non-traditional gamers.

You really are on crack...
NJDevil, where's your indignation when I'm the one being attacked?
you do reaslize most of the biggest baddest guilds around are from the UO days...
Oh, sure, of course they do.....afterall, your guild started in UO and you're big and bad, so they of course they had to start there.
even FoHs core started there....it wasnt offically FoH but some of the same members and they evolved into FoH in EQ....
Exactly. You had guilds in UO, but there was no point nor need to expand them beyond a "core". You seen to be agreeing with me here, so I won't go on, but I know smaller guilds who were small for years who left UO for DAoC and exploded in numbers because, in an EQ-clone game, belonging to a large clan is the only way to find groups quickly for levelling.
FYI noone.. not one good guild moved to Horizons... the reviews and the gameplay was absolutly terrible.
FYI, reviews, especially of MMOs come out AFTER the game is released and by then the clans had already moved. Sure, most of the ones who moved to it promptly moved back to wherever they came from or stuck it out briefly until the next thing came along, but the fact that some high profile clans did, in fact, initially, without knowing fully what to expect, make the move tells you how desparate they were for a change and some new surroundings.
you really need to get more in touch with the gaming community if you plan on stating "facts" like you are... beacsue most just show how outa touch you are with the genre...

Okay, thanks for setting me straight.

Um nice reading comprehension...

wtf are you talkign about you didnt need a large guild in UO?

most UO guilds were way over 40 people... active... thats a large guild...
ours was over 40 people just on our own merit...
not counting the 6 other guilds we took under our tag during that timeframe becasue of a Roleplayer vs PK war we were engaged in..

um go check your facts bro... VERY few people bought horizons... under 50k subscriptions.. less than that retained after month 1...
most were not dumb enough in the first place to buy it...
NO pvp at all... no uber loot.... no nothing to attract the uber guilds....
the PREVIEWS were horrible steering many many people away..
and No most MMO feedback comes way before the magaziines and sites get ahold of it...
beta word of mouth can kill a game....
just watch what happens to Matrix online BTW...
beta word of mouth and early previews are killing this game before its even released...

same thing happened to Anarchy Online... beta state scared alot of people off from release.. and rightfully so... still noted as the worst MMO launch of all time... very few hardcore gaming guilds went and tried this game at launch...
word of mouth will kill a game... pre launch or post..

Uh... what do battle.net forums have to do with WoW, which has its own dedicated forums? The WoW forums are pretty much the same content as any MMORPG forum I've seen. Maybe you found the magical forums for other MMORPGs where people don't spend 99% of their time whining, complaining about nerfs, or asking for more nerfs...? If so don't consider that to be reflective of the community.

Summary of WoW forums = "Nerf Pallies! They get a free horse!"

Don't hate unless you've tried it. I never thought that I would pay a monthly fee for a game, now I consider it money well spent for the time of enjoyment I'm getting.

damn fanboys.
kolt, if you're playing COD UO, try the Multiplayer mode, and also do BASE ASSUALT servers. You'll know what fun is. I had no idea Blizzard is charging 15.99 a month, too much for the average price in the MMORPG industry, and so not worth it if all you do is endless levelgrinding. I hate those types of Games, only fun game that was like that was Diablo 2, but look how that ended. All the same way and you'll soon realize its not worth the time/money spent.

COD UO is the sh|T when it comes down to multilplayer. If you're on the West Coast, look for sever COD WEST 2 and add to your favorites =)

I'm not hatin', just wondering WHY you pay $15/month. Is that a fee for playing online or what?

UO was the only game ever worth paying for... I paid 10 dollars a month for it for 2 years or so.

This was before the game went to hell...

yes, its a fee for access to the game servers. the world and the characters persist online 24x7. the fee helps maintain the servers, pays the coders/bug fixers, and funds the addition of new content. also, makes blizzard filthy rich.

So all game servers are controlled by blizzard? So it's not like BF1942, MOHAA and so on where anyone can set up a server?

'
correct, blizzard owns and maintains all the servers. they use their own authentication to match your login to the account you have registered with them. they also have paid admins in the game, though i have never had occasion to contact one, nor have i encountered one

I'd like to meet an individual that could provide free of charge bandwitdth to the number of clients that we are talking about.

For the OP.
Bottom line if you have to really question if the $15 a month fee is worth it then you probably won't enjoy the game. I don't know how much things cost in your area but if you went to the movies for ONE night that would cost you $20.00 assuming you bring a date, maybe a little less.
You are talking about paying $15.00 for a MONTH's worth of entertainment, think about it like paying for your ISP.
How many hours a month do you use your net? Your cable, your phone?

If you happen to go out quite a bit do yourself a favor and just try any mmorpg, see how much you save in a month.
