Ok I have finished HL2, Far Cry, I am no good at Counter Strike ( although I love it ) I still have COD UO to finnish up , but was thinking of entering the WoW. Is this game really worth 50 bucks + 15 a month to play? It better be better than crack at those prices. BTW Guild Wars looks interresting, and no monthly fee!!!

No. People here will be bored of it within a month and stop posting about it. Seriously.

I'd pick up R:TW or maybe Pirates to satisfy your need for a new game.

Anarchy Online is now free.....Check HD forums.
DAoC has a 7 day trial.
The orignal UO is like $10 and would be a great way to kill time and see the remains of a once incredible game.

I played the beta for 10 months and I still bought the game. My wife and son play as well and we all enjoy playing the game.

BTW, the last MMORPGs I have any interest in playing after trying them all are DarkFall Online (???????) and maaayyyybe Auto Assault. If neither sees release, I'm done with the genre for good. I'm not down with these EQ oh-pat-me-on-the-head-I-gained-a-level-aren't-I-a-good-dog clones.

I love the game. well worth it to me.

But then again, it is my first ever MMORPG, so... of course I'm addicted.

There are only 2 people on these boards that would not recommend WoW.

The game is well worth it. It has been out for nearly 2 months, yet the game is still being bought up as fast as they release copies. There is a reason other MMORPGs are free or have free trials now - they arent as good and people would rather pay to play WoW than play the other ones for free.

IMO the initial price isn't very justified considering the monthly fee, but thats an entirely different argument... It is well worth the monthly fee.

I have no desire to play it, after trying Beta and discovering it was DAoC all over again. But even then, I would buy 20 copies of it if I found it on stock anywhere. Why? because I could make $40 a pop selling them on EBay. :)

As for free trials, your logic is skewed. They offer free trials because they've made their money back on development and now have greater margins with which thy can use to entice new players. Especially all these BLizzard/Warcraft fanboys obviously new to the genre.

Whether or not YOU want the game, you can't argue that fact. The 700,000 units sold says a lot more than your - you just wait, people are gonna get bored.

Also, I was moreso referring to the totally free games, not the free trials, though I see why it wasn't that clear.

Things that will no doubt eventually appear in wow:

Northrend
Maelstrom
Tomb of Sargeras
Castle of Medivh (forget name)
Beyond the Dark Portal
High Elven town north of plaguelands
Nefarious and possibly Deathwing
Ulduar
Uldum
Grim Batol
Tree of Life (Mt Hayjl?)

So if you think WoW is going to get boring anytime soon, think again :). This game has so much damned storyline, it is going to be awesome.

I can see where if you speedlevel to 60 it might be boring, but honestly, I took my time leveling and am having a blast. There's so much to do, if I get bored questing I can grind mobs for wool/silk/leather, or go fishing to level my skill up.

Plus the rested XP bonus helps a ton if you don't play a lot. I went almost a week without playing and my rested XP bonus was so big I just keep extending it by completeing quests. I'll probably earn double XP all the way up to level 28 now (I'm at 26.5).

The only thing that would make me say it's NOT worth it is the server stability on some realms. All the realms went down for "scheduled maintence" last thursday, some of the more popular ones were down from 7pm EST to past midnight. Then they took a handfull of servers offline sometime saturday and they were offline until about 3am today.

They have been good about extending people's accounts for such downtime in the past. They said we'd get a day for the Thursday downtime, no idea if we'll get anything for the Sat-Sunday downtime, but I'm guessing we won't since the servers weren't continuosly down (ie: they'd come up but there'd be no mobs and it'd crash within minutes)

That's only really an issue for heavily populated servers though. Unfortunatly, if you play with a big guild (like I do), you're almost certainly on a heavily populated server.

Edit: Don't forget your first month is free and included in the cost of the game.

Worth it, but if you have a choice, go for a medium-low population server. After playing in Beta, I went with the 6-month subscription without hesitation and am still comfortable with that timeline.

Very hard to find a copy still. Couple of my friends got lucky and bought some of the handful that trickled out to retailers last week.

No its not, save your 50$ for some other game. The 16 bucks a month could go towards getting you a case of

Any game will have its detractors.....even highly regarded ones like HL2, KOTOR, etc. WoW is no different. But the sales figures speak loudly..... and I haven't seen volume drop-off or have even heard of it anecdotally. Those who rip it are in the extreme minority.....MMORPG haters or the gaming equivalent of old man's syndrome where past games are viewed with rose colored sentimentalism. It is highly likely that you'll enjoy WoW. Whether you think it's worth the initial cost + monthly fee is another question.

great game, but you gotta pick a reliable server. for example, the windrunner server's been experiencing login issues lately.

and there's no method of transferring characters from one server to another, yet. so it's doubly important to pick a reliable server.
