Is the ACC becoming THE conference?

We've apparently offered bids to Miami and Virginia Tech link. Rumor 'round town has it that Notre Dame is to be team 12. Is there any league in the conference that matches up?

for the conference.... big 10 is tops in almost every major sport.... football, basketball, hockey..

what? ohio state wins one championship, and suddenly the big ten (eleven?) is best? basketball? when was the last big ten basketball nat'l champion? 200? when was the last one?

did you forget about baseball? some people think it's pretty big.

Not really too concerned. Big East has always been a b'ball conference and losing VT and Miami will definitely not hurt it there.

With Syracuse as the defending National and Big 12 champs 😉 , and strong teams in Pitt, UConn, ND, BC, Seton Hall, etc, Big East is THE conference for B'ball

minnesota won the ncaa championship for hockey the last 2 years, indiana won the natl soccer championship, mich state was the last national champ 3 years ago I believe

not to mention that the big 10 regularly sends 6-7 teams to bowl games and 5-6 teams to the ncaas for bball.... thats over 50% of teams that play in the league

compare that to the current acc - we usually send 6-7 teams to bowls (out of 9) and 4-5 of the nine to the ncaas. *well* over 50%

I would say that the SEC or the Big-10 are the top conferences.

As for Notre Dame joining the ACC...don't hold your breath.

Notre Dame has a sweet deal going as far as scheduling and whatnot goes in addition to being able to negotiate their own TV coverage. I wouldn't expect them to join a conference because then they would have to give up their traditional scheduling of patsies to inflate their record in addition to being forced to play conferance opponents.

Edit: 1001 posts....yay I'm golden. 🙂

congrats 😉

i'm split as to my thought on notre dame - i'd rather them not join the conference, because i hate them so much, but i enjoy seeing them join one for the reasons you mentioned. i think that this year's conference reorganization is going to make enough change in the next bcs configuration to no longer grant notre dame a free bye into the bcs (if it still exists). i think this will drive them to join a conference.
