Oh and some of you need to learn to relax in the shower, in our house we take 15-25 minute showers =p

15 min is ok for women, but anything over 10 for a dude is abnormal unless they are fapping

I like to fall asleep in there or just stand there and soak up the hot water. My showers usually last over 15 minutes BUT my landlord pays for the gas so I could care less.

Points:

1. Shower does seem a bit long, 5-7 even with shaving should be plenty of time for a male.
2. Dad sounds very immature for shutting water off. There are other ways of confronting someone about their showering.
3. Maybe it is time you: a) moved out. b) started helping with the bills. c)If bis true see a.

hmm OP had way too much detail...I am sure his 15min showers are more like 30min while he massages his poor back and faps....

I think the OP is the one that's going to be alone.

Dude needs to man up and stop being a whiny bish. Either move out or lay down the law for your parents.

I predict we will hear more of these 5 years from now. "I was celebrating my 30th birthday when my dad cut power to the house and told us all to leave."

Good luck all of you washing long hair properly in an 8 mins shower

Its amazing how ATOT always jumps into the OP bashing bandwagon, making baseless assumptions when you have no idea what youre talking about... But just because the father is complaining, he must be wrong

Alot of people take longer than 20 min showers, I dont see whats wrong with that, Ill bet water and heating arent even 5% of your monthly expenses, so quit bitching, and if they are, it actually pays off because its worth the money

Its hilarious how people complain about this but go out to dinner and waste a ton of money on random food, when they could cook much cheaper food themselves (not to mention expensive clothes... Im just gonna stop here)

you made me look up "fapping"

Regardless of the shower time constraints or cost of utilities, that is not the real issue. Obviously there is some sort of communication breakdown and hostility if someone goes out of their way to shut the water main off to get someone out of the shower... It's a bit over-dramatic. I think OP needs to have a talk with his father and master of the house preferably with mother too and discuss reasonable contributions and acceptable comprimises.

I usually shave in the shower and can be in and out in about 10 minutes, tops. That being said, unless he's preventing other people from showering in the morning I really do not see a problem with a long morning shower.

If there is a problem, his dad needs to act like an adult and bring it up - not turn the water off and pester him about it. The OP should confront his father and tell him that if he has a problem with his showering habits, the appropriate time and place to bring it up is during a discussion, not at 7 am.

My point is that he is complaining that he's in a hurry to get to work, yet he takes 20 minutes to take a shower. You don't daudle in the shower if you're in a hurry. And maybe the dad has spoken to him before. The OP even states that his dad said "how many times did I tell you not to shower for so long".

In some houses, if people take 20 minutes showers, then the hot water runs out after a shower or two. For all we know, the dad is tired of taking cold showers because his son uses all the hot water.

Now that I can understand, It's hard to say without more detail from OP.

Propane Heater = 3-4 hr of hot water to shower ussaully

Electric = About 30 minutes.

It's not a big deal for us because we stagger it, she gets the morning showers and I get the evening showers.

We have about 30 minutes or so of hot water.

I like to relax in the shower, do my shaving, hair, relax the shoulders (I'm in front of a PC 8 hours a day at work some days), clean real good, and just soak up the nice heat. I tend to take longer showers in the winter.

Not much is better than it being -3 outside and you're in a sauna of warmth.

I doubt even Fabio takes 8 mins to wash his hair...he should still be able to clock in a 10-15min shower tops.

ATOT is not questioning the cost, they are questioning who is paying. Whoever pays for something can do whatever the fuck they want...those being paid for need to accept their spot in the soup kitchen line.

Wow, where were you a few years ago? The word "fap" was used so much at one point that it had to be added to the list of banned words.

Heck yeah, natural gas/propane heaters rule. I set my heater to "Vacation" mode for a week when I went home. It took less than 40 minutes for it to reach its normal temperature after I turned it back to normal.
Of course, I've never known a water heater to run out of hot water, either on my own or back home, with 4 people sharing one heater. I guess my parents were good at quietly training everyone to stagger their usage, to the point where no one even thought about it.

yeah, that's pretty extreme, but it seems like he's asked you to cut down your shower time before, so maybe you should cut down your shower time............. as a dad (granted my son is only 5 years old) it's not really about what you're doing that's wrong, it's that i asked you to do something, so i want you to do it...

i know i get upset at my son sometimes because doesn't do what i ask.. something as simple as getting his shoes on when we leave the house.. he'll go grab a toy.. then play with the dog as he's walking down the stairs and then see something else and get distracted... dude i just asked you to get your shoes on and it's taking 10 minutes... just do what i want you to do then play afterward...

so just take a short shower, and make him happy, or talk to him and tell him that sometimes you shave in the shower and it only takes you a few more minutes... or just move out..

Yah, he's such an asshole!

Hot water costs money... 15 minutes IS excessive for a shower. This Guy as you refer to him, probably works his ass off to pay that gas bill.

Stop being a snivling toad and have some damned respect. OR move out. Your choice.

True, hot water does cost money. Maybe his dad does work hard to pay for that bill and thinks 15 minutes is excessive. That's fine, but shutting off the water when he's taking a shower isn't the right way to get his point across. He could have just told him to hurry it up next time and stop wasting water once the OP came out.

Hmmm, sounds to me like his dad has done that many times before... OP said his father said
ya wtf is going on I wonder, how many times did I tell you not to shower for so long

Seems to me, the OP should have known better as his dad had told him before.

I'm probably one of very few people in this thread that agrees w/ the OP that the dad is nuts. ;)

I'm 23, and also live 'at home'. It's beneficial to me because I don't have to pay as much for rent here as I would if I moved out, and mom routinely indicates that she likes me being home, so that I can help pay bills, occasionally replace appliances for them (!), and help out on the farm if needed.

My dad used to throw a fit all the time about everyone taking long showers. I shower every morning, almost always 10 minutes exactly... if I feel like taking my time, maybe 15. I was getting ready for some event a few years ago, and dad decided to turn the water off while I was in the middle of a shower, and mom was getting ready in her bathroom... don't remember what she was doing. We were both livid. She pushed him out of the way and told him to stfu, and told me to go turn the water main back on. Later that night, she had a very short and to-the-point lecture for dad, telling him that if he ever did that again, she'd be happy to ship his belongings to any one of his siblings' houses, and he could move in with them. Then again, dad has never earned even 1/2 as much money as mom (and he wasn't terribly pleased when I earned more in my first job than he has ever made), and he showers once per week, if he thinks he has to.
