My dad 98 % of the time gets up to work at 5 am so he has all the hot water he needs, but he doesnt even do anything in the morning, because if YOU READ MY POST, you would know he takes 1-2 FULL WATER HOT BATHS the night before. Today for some reason he stayed home from work, so he had to stir up as much drama as possible.

FYI for all the people saying I Should live alone, your right I should, but I don't have the cash and Id rather save up a bit more and get my own place, instead of renting and never having enough capital to buy my own house/condo.

Also FYI to all the people in this thread telling me to pitch in for utilities, I more then gladly offered to pitch in for my water/gas bill. Also I do pay for the cellphone/internet/telephone/cable bills in the house, not to mention I buy groceries 1-2 times a week. I also buy stuff for the house, like couches, tv's, etc.

He's paying 300 bucks a month for heating because we live in a crappy insulated house that lets all our heat escape, and due to the fact that he enjoys a boiling enviroment, he himself cranks the heat up to the max.

@ my mom and teeth brushing comment, I think she was trying to rinse...
Damn....time to look at investing in some insulation, and possibly new windows. New windows aren't exactly wonderful insulators, but old windows really sucked. Single pane glass, with poor seals along the perimeter. New windows are dual paned, with inert gas inside, and have good seals all around.
Maybe check the Classifieds for insulation experts who can do free estimates?

If I understand the economic situation right here, with the cheap housing market and the depreciating US Dollar, sometime in the next year or so, you should be able to come here and buy a house with a few Euros. ;)

I wake up at 7 am to take a shower. I haven't shaved for 4-5 days and I usually shave in the shower. I notice that he hasnt left to work yet and is sleeping in his bed on the way to the washroom. I go in, start the shower, get in, and start doing my business. My showers typically last around 15 minutes, give or take. When I shave (which is once every 3 days) it takes me an extra 5 or so minutes to do my business.

I am in the shower shaving, and I usually let the water run on my neck/back during this because I find it relaxing (I suffer from back pains and a spine curvature disease). Half way through my shave I am all covered in shaving cream, the water stops running and just shuts off. I am like wtf is happening, are they doing repairs on the street or something. So the water shuts off and I am like wow wtf is going on out loud. All I hear is my dads response "ya wtf is going on I wonder, how many times did I tell you not to shower for so long".

At this stage I am fuckin pissed off like hell, and at the same time I hear my mom saying from downstairs, wtf happened to the water, Im in the middle of brushing my teeth. Not only am I rushing in the morning to get ready and not be late for work, my shower gets turned off in the middle. He goes and turns it back on after massive yelling from my mom, and I finish showering. During trying to finish my shower he keeps coming into the washroom and asking me if Im staying longer on purpose. I am like wtf are u talking about I have to reapply the shaving cream and finish now, not to mention wash myself etc.

After I come out this guy keeps yelling at me, telling me he pays 300 dollars in gas or some shit and its because of me. I told him he needs to get some help.

So what do you guys think? Is he seriously suffering from something here or am I in the wrong to shower? Also, FYI, he takes 1 bath a day (if not 2), bathtub full of water. He wastes more hot water and water then anyone in the house.

this thread, ladies and gentlemen, brought to you by the same guy who wants a 'resonably priced sports car' in lieu of moving out of the house

Lol @ all the people that are starting with the move out of your parents house comments. Buddy first off, Im 23, Im European, I don't need to move anywhere. I am fine with where I am. Your assumptions about me mooching are based on a general theory that you can't back up, you don't know my situation.

I don't understand this American trend of being independant, living on your own, do it BOY. Finance skills? Id rather be young, have a sick fuckin car, have fun with it, and worry about where my tired ass sleeps at night than what you suggested. You see the 50 year old guys in Corvettes all the time, who gives a shit, they are too old to fully enjoy that anyways, and I don't feel like establishing realstate property, sacrificing alot of shit and only when Im almost a senior citizen buying something fun to drive.

My comparison to those cars being a realistic purchuse is because they are a realistic purchuse and can be bought by people like me. Im sure most of you are driving around minivans paying off your mortgages being the typical "dad" and that's cool, it's the life you chose and you do what you need to do. Me I have no SO, I have no kids, I have no need of buying my own place when my parents just bought their first house at age 48 and are struggling to pay it off and probably would not be able to without my support. I think some of you really need to reconsider what the fuck your even talking about.

And 18 thinking of moving out? I don't know what fuckin trailer trash family you came from but people in Europe at 18 are just getting out of high school entering university and they won't have their first job till they are 23. It's awesome how this society has gotten used to routine work in their lives, Im sure those 15 year olds in McDonalds appriciate your advice on working hard and making the big move at 18 instead of studying and developing higher intellects.

Sorry for going off like this but it annoys me to no end some of the comments people make on here, especially the one about me moving out of my parents house, that one really hits the spot. And Im not buying a nice car to show off and be hot shit. I actually take pleasure in driving (with the exception of traffic) and if I can buy something nice now and have fun with it, then why not? Im pretty sure alot of those 50 year old guys with Vettes wished they took a road trip in their 20's with a car like that around the states/canada during the summer and had a lifetime experience, instead in 10 more years they will be in a mobil home cruising along (which I think is awesome also in it's own respective way).

Believe me when I move out of my house Ill keep you guys updated and posted with pics, it's going to be an earth shattering event, hopefully my car will be paid off by then and if not fuck it, Ill go bankrupt, wait 7 years till my credit clears, and start all over (just kidding, maybe)...

Well its his money and he can do whatever he wants. Personally, I would save now since you have a chance living at home. Some of the advice of ATOT is terrible (moving out when you're 18) but you have a special opportunity to save up money and you want to blow it on a car that will probably be worth 50% of its original value in 4 years. Not a wise thing to do. The advice I always got when I graduated college from my older co-workers (30-40's) was to live at home for a couple years and save up for a down payment if I could. Personally, I don't know what you do for a living and how much money you make but being ghetto rich is not smart.

???
1) I don't need to move anywhere. I am fine with where I am.

2) Id rather be young, have a sick fuckin car, have fun with it, and worry about where my tired ass sleeps at night than what you suggested.

3) Me I have no SO

4) my parents just bought their first house at age 48and are struggling to pay it off and probably would not be able to without my support. I think some of you really need to reconsider what the fuck your even talking about.

5) I don't know what fuckin trailer trash family you came from but people in Europe at 18 are just getting out of high school entering university and they won't have their first job till they are 23.

6) And Im not buying a nice car to show off and be hot shit.

The bullet points:

1) probably true...however; most don't look at you that way.

2) many are doing both...it's called working and getting that out of the way early. Regardless living at home as an adult to be able to afford a car is a pretty immature move...sure to go over well with the women.

3) Unless you are asexual, I would think this is a bit of a problem...dating is going to be a lot harder than if you had a steady/ready chick that 'understood'.

4) Sounds like they shouldn't have bought a house...bonus points for putting down those that live in a trailer though. You smack of entitlement...unfortunately you are entitled to live and die...that is about it, oh as of now the air is free.

5) People worldwide (if you went to college or at least a decent one you'd know this) usually start 'uni' at 17-18 and end in about 4-5 years. It's called a Bachelor's degree. I know many in Europe work prior to 23.

6) You can buy a lot of cars that are fun to drive yet don't require you to live subsidized on parents that you are saying can barely make ends meet. Did you ever stop to think that maybe your fancy car is a bit much when they are probably deciding mac and cheese or just plain pasta?

If you played your cards right and did well in college, you could graduate at 23/24 (although why rush college anyway...but I think girls are beyond you)...get a first job and easily support a nice ride while in your own 'average' apartment. Get a great first job and buy the Porsche, home on the water and a boat to put at the dock behind it.

Most though enter the job market out of college at 23ish (real job market/career) and buy a home within a few years, along with nice cars and the like, some have some set backs and maybe get pushed to early 30's or so, but no one should need to wait until their 50's to enjoy life unless that is their choice to hedge their money for an extremely profitable retirement.

Hate to break it to you, but that guy in his 50's driving that corvette probably has a lot of spending money so he's hitting clubs and bars. At night he is taking home that 18 year old that laughed about you living with 'mommy and daddy, but I have a corvette..y0!' and banging her silly all night.

good game.

I've read all this nonsense.

Move out and stop taking 20 minute showers just because it "makes you feel better". Time to man up and experience what it means to put a roof over your own head. Once you do that you'll see where pop is coming from.

Think about it - 20 minute showers???!!! Shutting off the water was the only way of getting the command through your thick skull. When in his house you obey his commands. Consequences to ones actions and behavior - learning this lesson will help you in life. Bad thing is he is being a good parent and you don't even realize it yet.

-edit-
My dad did this to me once or twice and I love him even more because he did, he was trying to teach me something but being a dumbass I couldn't see what he was trying to do.

Actually taking the general consensus of people here many take 20 minute showers. 20 minutes is actually not alot of time. Anyways, half the shower market focuses on massage shower heads etc. I think it is only logical that you want to place yourself in a position to make use of this massage shower head.

This is where your disconnect comes from. Trying to explain justification for your actions without suffering the consequences. For once you suffered the consequences of your own actions and it's blowing your mind and shifting blame from your own actions to an outside force.

Entitlement mentality FTL. I really do feel sorry for kids these days. That's not a troll, I really do feel sorry for them because they fail at life.

Move out, put a roof over your own head, provide for others and embrace adulthood instead of running from it.

No what your trying to justify is that there is something wrong with taking a 20 minute shower. I think your crossing a thin line here. It's like me telling you your meals should not take any longer then 10 minutes, or your exercise jog should be of this certain length. I've never heard of a guide book on the amount of time needed to take a shower, to take a bath, to take a shit, to brush your teeth. Im sure there are general guidelines, but to each and his own right?

My dad got pwned by my mom and me in the morning, today he came home from work with her and apologized to me, did not mention anything about the shower, just said he doesnt want to argue. Has this changed my relationship with my dad? No, he will never change and puts on a good phase for a time being, then goes back to the usuall retarded actions/controlling behaviour.

I do agree that some lessons parents teach might seem stupid and dumb at the time, and later on in life one comes to realize that what they were saying was actually true and good. In a way Im sort of glad my dad used to pwn me physically when I got in shit, it made me who I am now and I don't blame him for doing it. But turning off the shower for a 23 year old person when he's rushing to work is just not one of those things. You can't justify it no matter which angle you look at it. Not only is he risking the possibility of making me late for my job, he is risking my mom also, because if I don't drive her to work she doesnt go to work, simple.

Also a random fact, dad flushed the toilet twice while I was in the shower on purpose. That cost him around 3 minutes of shower time of me standing there off to the side waiting for the boiling water to stop ;) Not a smart move for someone who wants to save money and cut shower times, don't you think? ;)

So spidey07, please don't bring down your hard ass veteran type talk to me, as much as I respect the lessons you learned in life, I learned some too, don't worry about that :) If you want to chat about it someday hit me up through PM, we can discuss all aspects.

Move out, put a roof over your own head, provide for others and embrace adulthood instead of running from it.

Entitlement mentality FTL, lol I agree, here's a tidbit of my dads Entitlement mentality towards me:

dad: Son when you finish high school and go to college, Ill pay for your college, I want you to have a good education.
me: wow really? thanks dad thats awesome
dad: Ohhh the money for your college, ya, I used it to buy a 30 foot sailboat, ask the government for a loan
me: k...
me: in debt 20 grand done college
dad: hey ur showering too long, let me turn off the water...
me: k

Fifteen minutes for a normal shower is on the long side. More commen in Women then men. Are you a girly boy? Twenty minutes, though, is excessive even for a woman. Does your home have an on-demand water heater or a tank? If it's got a tank, you just used up all the hot water, and it will take a couple hours before there's water hot enough for another shower. I can understand why he'd be bother by that - no one else in the house gets to shower that morning becuse girly boy used up all the hot water. That's a very selfish thing to do. Knock it down to no more than ten minutes, even when you are shaving, until you are grown up enough to get you own place and pay for your own utilities.
