I can't stand people who call it "Coke." Coke is a specific brand.

"Yeah, I'll have orange coke, please." wtf?

im guessing you guys are referring to coke tho (the fizzy drink, not the white powdery stuff...lol)

pop is, um, a noise something makes when it bursts really,.....

mostly we call coke or other drinks similar either fizz or soft drink.......

just thought i'd screw up the poll, now u gotta put the UK on the map...lol

:)

Seltzer?

never been sure what seltzer is...lol...

soda is just carbonated water (ie fizzy water, but in the past they use bicarb of soda in very small amount inside a glass container that wasnt far from looking like a fire extinguisher to achieve it....nowadays they use gas machines and it comes out a tap)

when USA/CA people say soda or pop, we brits assume you mean cola (the generic term, with coke being a brand name. (waaaay in the past, they actualy used cola nuts to get the flavour....now its synthesized...lol)

and yes Finalfantasy, us Brits love to make things difficult........not much else for us left to do in this world...lol

Either works for me but I voted pop, it's easier to say (Illinois).

Next thing you're going to tell me you call cookies something weird like "biscuits" and potato chips "crips". :)

Hmmm....

When I lived in Michigan...it was Pop...

When I lived in California, Pop meant something else...so it was Soda

Now I live in Tennessee and they call everything Coke....so it's Soda

Of course...it really hacks me off that any function you go to that will be having beverages, they only serve Iced Tea! I hate Iced Tea....oh...and they'll have sweetened and un-sweetened...to cover everyone....but me.

Guess that qualifies as a bit of a rant, huh?

Apologies.....

Here in Amarillo, TX it's Coke in the generic manner, however to me it's pop, or soda, I'm originally from Iowa.

cookies = biscuits

potato chips = crisps

soda = carbonated water mixer for whisky

pop = a mildly alarming soft explosive noise

jelly = Jam (preserved fruit product for spreading in a sandwich)

jello = jelly (gelatinous sugar product that wobbles like a natural breast should)

right, hope that clears it up, now you can all start speaking in proper english....

hehe ;-)

*winks like the chimney sweep in Mary Poppins and disappears into a pavement chalk art painting*

Edit: silly me, forgot one....

Chips = thick fried or oven baked vaguely square lengths of potato. (like french fries, but much thicker)
