LOL... so would you eat horse meat? 🙂

Hell yeah. Already have.

I'd like to eat some of every animal on the planet. I've had some of (just about?) every game animal in North America.

I've found it difficult to move on after my first taste of RossMan though... 😛

What can you say about your horse eating experience? Taste? Texture?

Texture is pretty much like beef. Meat seems a little sweeter though. It's been a lifetime since I've had it though, so that's just vague recollection. 😛

Oh yeah, getting past all the whinying and neighing is the hardest part. 😛

What about the hooves?

There are exactly TWO horse slaughterhouses both in the USA.

Both are in Texas. The meat is mainly shipped to third world countries, as well as to some asian countries. There has been a rise in shipping to first world countries in Europe since the mad cow and foot & mouth scares.

IIRC they tried to pass a federal law in 2003 or 2004, but it never went anywhere once it was introduced. Those lobbying for it were the horse racing associations, vet groups, animal rights groups.

I honestly dont see what the big deal is. I personally wouldnt eat it because its supposed to be nasty.

Neither do I... it's not like horses are an endangered species... I say lets make some glue for the kids and horse steaks for the homeless. 😀

USDA opinion on Horse & Goat from 1997. The link is gone from the USDA website so I linked to one on a horse rescue site ; )

Here is another interesting article that suggests slaughtering our homeless cats & dogs and shipping the meat to other countries for food.

I think you're wrong there.. I've heard there's a horse slaughterhouse here in Illinois not far from the Dekalb area... they raise and kill horses but they all are exported outside the US...

OMFG...

You, "Is it illegal?"

"Not in Texas" which means there is no law saying it is illegal, and there would be no law saying it is legal so why the fvck would you ask if its a state or federal thing if there is no law to begin with?

You understand that he is saying it is legal in texas right?

Me: "Is it illegal?"
Him: "Not in Texas."
Me: "So IF IT WERE illegal, it would be a state law, not a federal law?"

Me-to-you: "How the hel1 is he supposed to know?"
