I think the cutoff for everything but Windows Phone was Jan 30th. If your device was set up for EAS by then, you can continue to use it. But if you get a new device, be it a replacement from a warranty swap or purchase an upgrade, then they can not do EAS.

I believe Google pushed the deadline for Windows Phone in to the summer because Microsoft needed to release an update that did CardDAV and CalDAV.

I've been slowly moving my email correspondence to Outlook.com in my efforts to 'de-googlefy'. I like it. It brings a lot cleaner interface, IMO. GMail used to own that but it has seen a lot of feature creep the past couple of years and the new interface on the web is just downright terribad, IMO.

Thanks, I signed up for an outlook.com account for that exact reason. Looks like I'll start using it...

Couldn't stand the mostly non working home button on my iPhone 4 any longer and picked up a 32gb 5"c"heap since I'm that way and didn't want to pay the extra $100 for the S.

Anyway the phone is a phone and does what I need it to do and it's nice to have an extra 16gb of space.

However, I'm kind of pissed about Google ending their sync licensing. I much prefer iOS' mail app over the separate Gmail app that I'm now forced to use if I want (and I do) push email. Pain in the ass!

I'm enjoying the excellent battery life and camera of the 5s. iOS definitely has better idle battery drain than Android. As for app availability and quality, it's a wash for me since I'm heavy user of Google services so I'm actually missing more apps on iOS than on Android. But I did get to experience one aspect of the superior iOS app experience the past weekend. CBS sports iOS app can stream live sports games so I was able to watch the LSU vs GA football game while working. On Android, the CBS sports app can't stream live games. But I could've have used Flash to stream it from numerous live TV sports sites. But it was nice to use the official sanctioned app instead of a hack. I do find iOS7 on 5s needlessly slow. The UI transitions may be pretty to look at for some people but it annoys me and makes the phone feel slow. The phone would feel so much faster if all the transition animation could be disabled like you can on the various Android launchers. I use Nova Launcher on my Android devices and set the animation to none and faster than light setting. That makes the device feel fast and instant. 5s has powerful hardware. There's no reason to use the slow animation transition masking trick. Showcase the powerful hardware.

What's the best smartphone camera? "Best" depends on what the user values most. While the Nokia Lumia 1020 is the more advanced and more powerful camera, the Apple iPhone 5S is the more elegant and reliable shooter. The iPhone 5S takes lightning quick photos in succession and will make the right call on exposure and white balance settings 9 of 10 times. For most people, that automatically makes it the winner. Smartphones are supposed to simplify our lives, and there's nothing simpler than pointing, pressing, and capturing a moment with the iPhone 5S and still getting good results. However, I said 9 of 10. In the event that the 1 of 10 doesn't pull through, the iPhone 5S becomes a limitation rather than a pleasantly simple interface. As annoying as it is to see the Nokia Lumia 1020 not get the settings right on its first try, at least its camera can be tweaked to fix the problem and take a great shot.

Choosing between the Apple iPhone 5S and Nokia Lumia 1020 is about perspective. Someone who takes plenty of photos while obsessing over the details might be happier with the Lumia 1020. Nokia's phone will allow him or her to be confident that the perfect shot is always possible. People who use the camera to quickly document the surrounding world and the interesting events and people in it will be happier with the iPhone 5S. Apple's camera is my personal favorite to use because it requires the least effort and still does a great job. Unless you wish to fine-tune every single photo taken, it will be your favorite as well.

Speaking of smartphone camera, check out Nova: the off-camera wireless flash for iPhone/Android. If you use your phone to take a lot of photos, but cringe at the flash, you might like this.

The lack of a Google Music app on iOS is puzzling. One could argue that Apple doesn't want to approve of an app that would potentially eat away at iTunes sales. If Apple makes a larger iPhone next year I want to be able to use my Google Music account on it without accessing the website. I'm not paying for iTunes Match.

Fuck. I paid $2 for an app called gMusic that let's me access Google Music. Oh we'll. I gotta say it's pretty well developed for a third party app.

I think for most Android users though its one of those things where ignorance is bliss.

The good thing is that it's getting better, and it's gotten a lot better. I'm curious though, why is there a recent wave (like past 3-6 months) of all these nice Holo apps. Were the design guidelines out since ICS almost 2 years ago? It took this long for apps to get updated?

While I know many would blame app developers, and that's fair, it's still kinda annoying Google doesn't shepherd them a little to hurry them up.

I feel like my battery life isn't as good as my gs4. Might be in my head though since I didn't have the percentage up top on my s4 all the time.

The iPhone is a much bigger dust/ finger print magnet than the all of my previous androids. Usually my androids would come out of my pocket spotless. I feel like I'm constantly wiping down my ip5.

I'm really liking how the iOS handles emails. Is there anyway to set it so I can swipe to delete?

swipe on email from R to L to delete. it's built in functionality.

Probably because Gingerbread usage is finally falling off some.

I agree with you its getting better for the most part. Google Maps recognizes my menu button now so at least so I never yell at my phone anymore.

I heard if you already had it set up in the past you are sort of grandfathered in but I know they cut it off at a certain point.

Gmail already does that...?

I think you can swipe, but it doesn't auto delete, it brings up the delete button when you swipe (this is the stock mail app in iOS). Gmail will delete with a swipe, no button press needed (at least on Android, though I'm sure iOS must be the same).

The activation for Exchange on GMail is tied to the device, not the user. You can wipe your phone and set it back up again as many times as you'd like on your current devices.

Once you switch devices, however...
