It's funny the fence is working vs poor moms with babies who are running from being raped and killed by cartels.

It doesn't work for shit against opiod bringing drug dealers and richer immigrants who are willing to pay cartels to use their tunnels.

I think he's looking for specifics so I'll offer one and that is pepper spray. Tear gas is pretty nasty and indiscriminate. Capsaicin hurts but isn't nearly as harmful unless some idiot swallows a bunch of worlds hottest peppers.

Do they a spray that works on larger groups of people? Most of the sprays I see are small and only hit a small area. Tear gas can be dropped and keep people out of that place.

As you say, that gas goes where the wind takes it, so it has problems. But, with the rocks being thrown, you likely could not have gotten close enough to the people to use spray I would imagine.

A fence is a wasteful and bad idea. Keeping people out and making them go through a process is right, so long as that process is not fucked. We have a fucked process and that helps nobody.

What's weird about america is that this is repelling an invasion but if I am a filthy rich foreigner I can buy my way in, lobby congressmen and even discuss business with presidential aides

Yes, people will not choose an illegal path if a reasonable legal one is available to them. We can vet them during that process and keep the bad ones out but the vast majority will be just fine.

When you remove the flow of thousands of illegal people you make the sneaking across the border industry a lot less viable and that makes it so there are fewer ‘bad guys’ trying to sneak across and more resources to catch the ones that try.

It’s common sense. Want to make the border more secure? Make it easier to immigrate legally.

You can even stay in a luxurious Trump resort in Florida to have your anchor baby.

Good, that keeps some of the illegals out is what you are saying. As I said, it will stop a lot of the low hanging fruit but now solve the problem. I don't want Mexico's refugees that are going to be societal parasites. Maybe Mexico should work on being great in stead of being run by cartels...

Yeh, like all the social parasites working in the Nunes family dairy & food processing industry. All the ones in construction & building maintenance services. Restaurants. Child care. Retail.

You live in a fact free post-truth realm-

With all this talk about the wall it reminds me of how Trump kept saying Mexico was going to pay for it. He doesn’t say that anymore, does he? Haha.

You idiots who believed his lies should be ashamed of yourself. How could you be duped so easily?

OK let's drop the "them". What in your opinion should immigration look like, open borders? Token screening and releasing? Once you have identified a goal and without referring to politics but solutions, what should be done to arrive, meaning what steps and again no Left, no Trump, none of that. Consider it a job and you have been employed to find a solution.

My goal? Zero population growth. Stability and sustainability. The sooner the better.

That'd require slashing all annual immigration to mere thousands.

Never gonna happen.

Ever wonder why so many people have so many foreign born significant others? They like to get laid!

Just look at our biggest annual immigration statistic. It is that of fiances/ wives of US citizens.

Throw it higher!

Your Maginot line. That failed too. You know what? Hire people including immigration judges to process in a timely way and spend a fraction of what you would have on the Orange Elephant.

I'm all for a wall and improving / streamlining the immigration process. But securing our border should be step number one. It is too easy to simply walk across, this would stop a lot of the easy clean up, the low hanging fruit.

No one cared about building barriers / walls / fences before. You only care and are against it today because Trump wants it.

I only care about it now because no one was dumb enough to cause it to be a concern before. It would have been stupid earlier as well. Patrols can be increased and sensor technologies deployed because anything is cheaper than some dopey obstruction and likely at lease as effective. The wall is not something for security, it's a Great Pyramid, a physical monument Trump will point to for his ego's sake.

"Streamlining"? Does that mean things like shutting down borders and permitting fewer to avail themselves of the lawful process? We have about 300 immigration judges when we should probably have ten times that much. We'll spend a hundred million for 5800 troops serving no useful purpose and not one cent to improve the backlog in a real and significant way.

So easy that tons of people are arrested attempting it every year.

We joke about the "wall" because his concept of the "wall" is stupid. Billions have been spent on border security by congresses and presidential administrations of both parties. If you really wanted to do something about illegal immigration you would create an easy guest worker program and punish the ever living daylights out of people who hire illegals.

Build the wall is just a simple minded non-solution to a very complex problem.

Dude if we did that then how could you call it a crisis and try to score political points?

Like I said hire sufficient people to process people wanting access to the US in a timely way, cheaper than this dumb as a mud fence Wall.

The paramount of the first paragraph is about the wall being about Trump... like I said. You guys only care today about a barrier / wall because Trump wants it. And that's exactly how your first paragraph finishes.

And yes, we should have more immigration judges and make the process easier and quicker, among other areas to improve to streamline the process. I have legal immigrant friends, they had to jump through a fair number of hoops to come here legally. I think we can improve the process. But looking at today, when we have a mob of thousands trying to invade our country right on our border, possibly hundreds of criminals mixed in, I'm fine with shutting down the border entry points and deploying troops to keep the border secure.

There was no Wall before Trump because it's an idiot's idea. Now Trump wants it and he's the idiot. Why does he want it? Because of his ego.

Trump made this wall about him in every way so yeah he gets grief for petty, stupid and wasteful.
