Acid is quite close in Opera 9 beta. Closer than Mozilla FF or IE6/IE7.

I think we may soon see the first case of other browsers copying IE in a while :p. I'd love to try this out myself, but I have no windows machines to do it on...
Woah, would you look at that? Too late!! :D I'm sure IEs is much better, but they've got that whole hardware accelerated graphics thing to rely on :p

May have found a problem.

I opened up the search functions and click on the User letter D

IE was unable to do the Scroll; FF worked fine.

Can anyone duplicate this test.

I had to kill the app and sent an error report to MS.

How do you pirate a public beta?

By circumventing the security measures that only allows legitimate users to use it.

It doesn't seem to work anyway, it gives an error when I try to run the exe.
"The procedure entry point InternetGetSecurityInfoByURLW could not be located in the dynamic link library WININET.dll.

They are providing us a free self-extracting file. All you are doing is extracting the files yourself. It's the same idea as fair use.

Now, secondly: I have always loved Firefox for doing this: If you type in [in Firefox] in the address bar: "anandtech off topic" for example (without the quotes) then it'll take you straight to Anandtech's Off Topic (i.e: the first page in the Google search). But Microsoft has decided to keep redirecting you to their MSN Search page: why?
Think about that one for a second. Seriously. Granted, they could have done an "I'm feeling lucky" version of the search, but that may bother people who'd rather see all the options.
But then again, Firefox has this original feature (as well as (in the latest version) typing "wp anandtech" it should take you directly to the Wikipedia article on AnandTech). But I guess that's what diffrentiates the programs (even Opera doesn't have this feature)
Yes it does, it may just not have wikipedia set up by default. I'll admit, in the oldish version I've got installed here, I can't figure out how to add new entries, but type 'g searchterm' and it'll search google for you. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't add this sort of thing to ie yourself. And assuming you can, you could easily fix your above gripe by mapping 'atot' to atot.

1. If someone would have rather seen all the results: they can type in Google before the search entry, e.g.: google lindsay lohan. If they want to be take to the first link in google, then they just type in the word(s): e.g.: lindsay lohan. That's how it is in Firefox. Now, I'm not saying that they should be copying Firefox, but they could have done something like that. (I don't know how, I'm just saying stuff ;))

2. Well, some of this ties in to the google searching function mentioned in number 1. But, mapping? Wouldn't that be a bit long winded?

Anyways, I was just mumbling to myself aloud, if you like, but I was just comparing the new Interenet Explorer to others (mainly Firefox) for reference.

How to get a standalone IE7, and avoid Windows Validation.

* Extract IE7B2P-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe to a any folder *i.e. c:\ie7beta2p*
* Working within the extracted directory, delete the following:
- update *the folder*
- install.ins
- spmsg.dll
- spuninst.exe
- spupdsvc.exe
* Create a blank text file within the directory and rename it to "iexplore.exe.local"
* Creat a shortcut to iexplore.exe on your desktop
* Enjoy

Warning: This will most likey cause major problems with your IE6 install. I ran IE7 this way for a few minutes and afterwards IE6 was not working properly. The browser would stop responding whenever I tried to open a site and I had to do a system restore to fix it. I'd highly recommend against trying to run IE7 this way.

Decided to give IE7 Beta 2 a try, even though Beta 1 seemed like a piece of garbage.

Downloading on a 128.8 connection. Download failed near the end, and I didn't really care.

Firefox and SeaMonkey are doing well enough in my book, no need to try something broken.

Wait a sec... is it me, or are they simply releasing a piece of software with what everything else had years ago?

Standard procedure for MS.

Let the market decide what is desired; then buy/build the similar item and repackage it.

Yeah, it's very stable. I haven't had a crashed yet. Just buggy as hell.

Show me any browser that can compete with IE on enterprise manageability. The gauntlet's been down for years, since the introduction of SUS. Where's the response, from these guys who keep pounding their chests claiming their product is so much better than IE...?

*crickets*

Not even an official .MSI installer available. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Most of my problems are with this forum actually! And the occasional site. But other forums, like VB, are fine. But fusetalk isn't playing very well at all with IE7.

There are some really strange bugs with IE7. Sometimes, IE7 kills my ability to open other windows or programs, including the task manager! When this bug occurs, and i try to open the task manager, i get a 'blink' of IE, then nothing... just IE still there. I can still use IE without any problems, but i can't open the task manager. And sometimes this bug goes so far as to the RIGHT-CLICK function completely disappears. I can't right-click on anything, whether out of IE or within the IE window. But once i close IE, everything is back to normal.
