Wow. I just installed it, and I've found two problems already.

Firstly: I like using the keyboard alot, so I use alot of the ALT + [letter] shortcuts. One thing that annoys me is, if you press ALT + F, you get the normal File menu, right? Then I noticed there is a Tools menu as well, so I thought I'd try ALT + T for tools (which it is supposed to be, because the T is underlined) and the Tools on the right side opens up. Come on, Microsoft, I thought you guys would have learnt from your first mistake, which you still haven't fixed yet (in the "non-classic" start menu, Open up start, and then press P for Programs to open up, and it only highlights programs, because there is a "Printers and faxes" shortcut there which uses the letter P as well. I have the classic start menu, but I'm just trying to make a point here).

Also, how would you open up Tools, without using the keyboard?

Now, secondly: I have always loved Firefox for doing this: If you type in [in Firefox] in the address bar: "anandtech off topic" for example (without the quotes) then it'll take you straight to Anandtech's Off Topic (i.e: the first page in the Google search). But Microsoft has decided to keep redirecting you to their MSN Search page: why?
But then again, Firefox has this original feature (as well as (in the latest version) typing "wp anandtech" it should take you directly to the Wikipedia article on AnandTech). But I guess that's what diffrentiates the programs (even Opera doesn't have this feature)

EDIT: forgot to mention that Internet Explorer doesn't render some pages properly. Go to Wikipedia (as an example) and try opening any article: you'll notice their logo on the top left will have disappeared (if you don't believe me, try opening the same page in Firefox, or what ever else you have (I've tried it on Opera, and Firefox, and the both show it, don't know about Internet Explorer 6, but Internet Explorer 7 definitely doesn't show it)

EDIT: Also forgot to mention my first looks: overall, pretty nice GUI, but could use an improvement in some areas: e.g.: the Tools menu. Also, what about beginners of the Internet? I'm pretty sure they'll find this browser pretty confusing because of the way everything is hidden. I mean my mother (who is unfortunately an computer illiterate) has just gotten used to using Internet Explorer 6, then I switched her over to Firefox, but she quickly set it, because it was much simpler (she pretty much just points and clicks at hyperlinks) but the best part of it was just entering websites withouth www and com. I wonder what she will think of Internet Explorer 7. :confused:

And for a beta, and I have used a lot of MS beta products (too many to my misfortune) IE7 so far seems fairly stable. Only been running it two days, but only 1 errror encountered so far and install was clean and smooth.

Tabbed browsing is great, built-in phishing blocker is interesting - have to see how that really works - and the overall speed is good.

I'm using about 42mb right now, but CPU usage is nil.

Had no problems when uninstalling it. You have to make sure that you click "show updates" and you'll see it.

It keeps the new IE icon though.

I get an error...

This package does not support your system architecture (32/64bits).

Think about that one for a second. Seriously. Granted, they could have done an "I'm feeling lucky" version of the search, but that may bother people who'd rather see all the options.

Yes it does, it may just not have wikipedia set up by default. I'll admit, in the oldish version I've got installed here, I can't figure out how to add new entries, but type 'g searchterm' and it'll search google for you. I'd be very surprised if you couldn't add this sort of thing to ie yourself. And assuming you can, you could easily fix your above gripe by mapping 'atot' to atot.

There is a glitch compared to IE6 & FF.

When a thread gets locked, the browser does not seem to be able to back out to the Forum page using the back button/backspace. Continues to recycle back to the locked page.

Somebody forgot to log out of their mod account ;)

It was deliberate. Only a Mod can lock a thread.
Had I posted the same under my normal handle; then my secret identify would be exposed for all to see.

this might be nit picking and i'm not sure if ff does this or not but-

when i click a link and it opens in a new tab. then i'm done with the link tab and close, it doesn't bring the most recent tab into focus. it focuses like the last in line.

Yeah, but how many browsers actually can pass it right now anyway?

I was under the impression that only Safari passes the test at this time. Perhaps it was K-Melion or some other obscure browser though.
Safari and Konqueror. (The one that Safari is based on ;))

Anyways, my point was that it's a little hard for most of us to complain until gecko and Opera can pass it too :)

To web developers and buccaneers alike:

How to get a standalone IE7, and avoid Windows Validation.

* Extract IE7B2P-WindowsXP-x86-enu.exe to a any folder *i.e. c:\ie7beta2p*
* Working within the extracted directory, delete the following:
- update *the folder*
- install.ins
- spmsg.dll
- spuninst.exe
- spupdsvc.exe
* Create a blank text file within the directory and rename it to "iexplore.exe.local"
* Creat a shortcut to iexplore.exe on your desktop
* Enjoy
