Don't think I'm gonna try it on the Via chipset board, due to the complete lack of voltage adjustments. Probably going to stick it on the NF4 board in place of one of my P4 ES chips.
Yea thats the only thing I don't like on this board. But I am only aiming for 3.3Ghz and that shopuld be ok on default with a 166Mhz FSB. At least I hope.![]()

Gee what sells better... a $150 820 or a $150 805?

that makes no sense, if Intel couldn't sell 820s, then why would it underclock them and then try to sell them? They would jsut keep the speed and lower the price. The 805 is there to try to get entry level consumers thinking dual core is the way to go. Its more about changing public opinion then making money.

i dont think intel gives a rats ass if the anandtech community buys 820s.
dell sells tons of them and they have 25% market share. hp sells a ton too.
my uncle even bought a dell 820 figuring its 2 cores so it has to be better and it was cheap.
thus... they are probably selling plenty of 820s.
That's conveinant..i dont think intel gives a rats ass if the anandtech community buys 820s.

Yup, theres a sucker born every minute.

well the 820 from dell is a great deal. well i guess they only sell the 920 now. if th e820 was $350 per cpu ok yes there would be a sucker every minute.
but i would guess dell is probably getting them for $150 as it is. and it is cheap to make for intel since they have tons of manufacturing capacity and even cheaper for the 920 series.
i mean, sure the x2 3800 is a much faster cpu... but you cant get it in a system that cheap. where can you get a bundle of say a x2 3800 witha 20" lcd or something for $800.?
that is what i was saying, so what if the cpu is not the greatest technical acheivement in the world. it also costs a lot less, and probably costs a lot lot lot less for dell to sell.
i mean there have been deals where you could get an entire 820 based system with a 20" lcd for like $800. so i stand by my claim that they probably sell a ton of them.
i didnt even say it was a better cpu. but value per $ on it is not that bad. especially if you just want dual cores for well the "smootheness". not to mention some fo the games now support dual core for 3d like quake4 and it really brings it up to speed.
i mean look im trying to be objective here. some of you guys are like total amd fan boys. i mean does amd use AEG or something? are they sending opterons to you g uys? seriously i dont understand why people are so passionate about this pro amd stuff. it is a cpu for god sakes.
We'll keep quiet. Shhhh.Originally posted by: Zebo
My dad's one of those suckers. Get this - dropped 3K on dell 820 setup...He got the 5 year at the door warranty - not that i've ever hinted I know anything about them either and I'd like to keep it that way.![]()
The "IT experts" are seeing computers as commodities and tools that need to work all the time, so they're buying the Dell's with good warranties. It comes down to knowing that if anything breaks it will be working the next day. Even companies that market to "enthusiasts" buy their "tool" computers based on the warranty.Originally posted by: Zebo
IT experts and well informend end users will eventually make an negative impacton on intels bottom line though word of mouth.
I'd sign up to be an AEG fanboi in an instant if it'll means they'll give me a better Opteron than the one that I have.Originally posted by: hans007

That's fine, then the machine won't be as lagged when Norton Internet Security kicks in. OMG I had to uninstall that sh1te on my Dell notebook because I was playing games on it and it was getting totally lagged, ALT-TAB out and find Norton scanning away. Exit out of it and go back into game, few minutes later lagged again, find Norton again...Originally posted by: stevty2889
Whats really sad, is that a lot of the people buying Dells' with dual cores, are just gonna use them for checking e-mail, browsing the internet, and maybe some office apps.

What does other peoples o/c have to do with the o/c you will get? YMMV.
No guarantees. Or do you want just a rough average of what people are getting?

eeew. 533 MHz FSB dual cores eh? Smart one Intel. Real smart.
No wonder AMD is doing so well - monkeys are in charge at Intel.
Yeah, but with good cooling, setting the FSB to 200mhz will run the chip at 4ghz..
