We'll keep quiet. Shhhh.

The "IT experts" are seeing computers as commodities and tools that need to work all the time, so they're buying the Dell's with good warranties. It comes down to knowing that if anything breaks it will be working the next day. Even companies that market to "enthusiasts" buy their "tool" computers based on the warranty.

I'd sign up to be an AEG fanboi in an instant if it'll means they'll give me a better Opteron than the one that I have. :p

Whats really sad, is that a lot of the people buying Dells' with dual cores, are just gonna use them for checking e-mail, browsing the internet, and maybe some office apps.
That's fine, then the machine won't be as lagged when Norton Internet Security kicks in. OMG I had to uninstall that sh1te on my Dell notebook because I was playing games on it and it was getting totally lagged, ALT-TAB out and find Norton scanning away. Exit out of it and go back into game, few minutes later lagged again, find Norton again...

Then again, as long as Dell sells Celerons, that's what people will be buying.

haha, i actually started joking about that at work. one core for norton internet security. the 2nd one for the rest of your stuff. guess where i work?

Got the 805 today.. Removed the current 930 and dropped the 805.
Has been running at 31 deg. C with casual browsing / VPN / office work.
Almost same temps as 930 on stock cooler.
unfortunately no overclocking option in my current Gigabyte MB..
Getting P5LD2-VM day after.. will post results then..

Can you not change the FSB to 166Mhz?

But my 805 chip should be here later today. No voltage changes for my Asrock PT880pro board but I can change the FSB so I will see what it can do. :)

ok quick one here as I need to head out.

I got my 805 and put it in my Asrock PT880pro board.

At 167fsb it would get past teh Bios screen but lock beofre the window screen.
At 160fsb it would make it to the windows screen but lock there
At 151 I am typing this but I think it might not be 100%, need more testing.

So it seems the chip wants to do the 160 maybe even 167 but needs more voltage and my board can;t go higher unless someone knows a aftermarket Bios for this board?

only making 3G seems a little low, i've seen these chips get 3.7G on other websites. Although personally i'd shoot for ~3.5G just casue of the heat. Not sure what voltage they used, ya can go looking it up if you want though. But at 3G it probably couldn't have even been able to be sold as an 820 since thats not much of a margin of error there.

Temps taken with Sandra at 144Mhz FSB (about 2.9Ghz)
Idle temp is 40-41 range
After running a dual core benchmark (100% cpu) it gets to teh high 40's.(47-49 range)

Feels pretty peppy and I don;t think the FSB is hurting it much at all. Most test are putting it 1 to 1 with the other dual core 820/830/etc... based on Mhz.

I JUST NEED MORE VOLTS!!! :p

Am going to e-mail Asrock and ask about CPU voltage.

what would be the best OC sub $100 board for this?

and lastly w/o bias for a student doing lots of cs2 work what would be a better ideal chip opty 144 or d 805?

Just more great news, so props to Intc for using their industry might to help push SMP into the mainstream, and thus increase dev support for it

Well so far my 805 is running stable at 3.72ghz, prime95 errors our less than a minute at 3.8ghz, posts, but won't boot in to windows at 4ghz. Haven't played with it too much yet though since i just got it last night, only had an hour and a half to work with it. Not too bad for a $145 dual core on a $110 motherboard. I'll play with it some more tonight after it finishes recording my TV shows. At least that verfies the FSB problem with the rest of them isn't a problem with this chip..

For the people who already own the 805, does it have downwards moving multipliers or is it fixed at 20?

1.375 or 1.4v, haven't paid attention to the load temps yet(not too worried since I am using water cooling), but idling at 32c. I'll double check when I get another chance to play with it.

Ah ok. I was waiting for you to say you are doing all this at stock voltage. :( Right now 2.8ghz seems to be the best I can get at 1.2-1.25 range (default)

Just finish building a 805/P5VD1-X(via)/2gb ram system for my buddy, right now I am running at 3ghz. Let me know if you guy want me to run any test on it.
