And, that's the whole point, yes?

That's what the 'thread crappers' missed...

You, me, and a handful of others, are now members of an elite club!

P4 3.4EE chips have ALWAYS been very RARE!

So much the better, for us, now that they're gone...

Put another way, it's all about bragging rights, baby! 😀

I posted a few pages back, didn't mean to be a thread crapper, but I just found some of the logic in the thread odd. I understand the reason people are buying the chip, and to be honest, if it was available for that price here in Canada, I probably would've bought one to drop in my P4P800 system to mess around with and to try to bump up the resale value. There is definitely something cool about owning an EE chip (and the best P4) for $100.

Yes, you were one of the 'lucky' ones!

BTW, here are some bench build pics, if anyone is interested...

Mountain Mods U2-UFO tray
Socket -- Angle #1
Socket -- Angle #2

Not too bad... or is it?

As long as I have my machine apart, I think I'll throw some Crucial Ballistix Tracers in there...

Anybody got any hot deals going on PC4000 Ballistix sticks? Can't find those in stock either...

Indeed my friend, indeed! Maybe the crappers are just jealous because we have $1000 CPU's? 😛 My real fascination with these is they are basically a modded northwood core, much better than the deep-pipelined Prescott's in IPC.

Nice looking rig you have going there! Long live S478! 🙂

Anyone know anything about wegotdeals.com? They seem to be the only place left with any available but resellerratings only has one review for them and it is negative.

Nope, don't know a thing about them, but in ResellerRatings I trust...

Caveat emptor! 😉

Dude, you are just trolling.

Just because some computer part used to sell for $1,000 a few years ago does not make it worth that much today. Example, CPU Intel Pentium III Xeon Slot Processor 1Ghz for $4.95 and this used to sell for MORE than $1,000. Heck, 4x CD readers used to sell for $100... I wouldn't want one now if it was free.

I'm all for hot deals and consider this one at least warm but let's not lose sight of reality.

Umm... Okay...

Do you still stand by this declaration?

To simply call the entire P4 line of cpu's and the millions sold a failure would be ridiculous and is only something someone would suggest if they were some sort of demented fan of another cpu brand. 😛

If you're asking me... Yes!

Heh!

I just spent another $112 for DDR500 (PC4000) Crucial Ballistix Tracers at the Egg, so I can go 1:1.

-----------------------------------------------*edit*------------------------------------------------
I lucked out on these -- I'm at level 3 already -- now they're on back-order again!
The Egg must have found a few laying around, or whatever. Highly desirable!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There's no way I would be spending all this money if I didn't think it was a worthy upgrade... I was running a 3.06 Northwood!

Besides, when I do a *major* upgrade to C2D in a few months, I doubt I'll lose a penny selling this stuff on the bay... 😀

Yes, I still say the P4 is a good chip.

But my point was that just because something used to sell for $1,000 doesn't make it worth $1,000 today.

The larger point is...

Is a $1,000 P4 3.4 EE chip worth $100 today, give or take? After all, MANY places are still selling them for $1,000+...

All things considered, I think, yes! This has to be THE deal of the new millennium!

That's my point... 😀

Seems like all good Mobo's based on Socket 478 completely disappeared from the market.
Some of them that are still selling a ebay are all going for above $200.

Now dont show me all those useless mobo's, I was specially looking for the Asus P4C800 line and Abit IC7 line.

I was thinking that these are now more than 4 year old mobo's and would be had for a bargain. Aparantly not.

S478 mobo's are harder to find than hen's teeth. I believe there's a couple in the For Sale/Trade forum section....that's as good as it's going to get.

My order from Geeks just arrived. I noticed it said Out of Stock early in the week, but I kept checking this thread and checking geeks and noticed it was back in stock. My wife ordered it for me I think on Thursday and it showed up today via FedEx.

Question for you guys, I have the stock heatsink and fan that came with my P4 3.2 CPU. I'm also using a Intel D875PBZ board. Being that I have an intel board, overclocking isn't going to happen. Think that old HS and fan will cut it?

*barely* --if is the aluminum one ... temps run warm ... upper 50s

if is the copper intel HS it is *fine* ... temps run 10c cooler ... upper 40s

I would think that would work fine. You do know that you have to put some thermal transfer compound (heatsink grease) on there, right? Spread it as thin as you can.

not necessarily ... the 3.2 ran a lot cooler than the EE ... if it was a NW ... a Prescott would be just as hot or hotter and would already have the stock intel copper HS ... which is fine

the Aluminum one is NOT really ok ... it ran way too hot for my EE - even at stock - but was fine for my old 2.80c@3.31Ghz

but *agreed* on the thermal compound
... remove the old dry stuff first 😉
