Intel i5 2500K 3.3GHz Retail Box at MC....$99.99!!!

I placed an online order for instore pickup, but am honestly considering canceling it. I placed the order as an impulse for the price is that good.

I already have a htpc with a i3-2100t in it. I also have a i5-3570k which is waiting for a computer build (building a windows 8 file server, need to rma an asus motherboard and once it comes back I am ready to build.) There is no reason either computer needs such cpu power, but the price of this 2500k is so good.

Anandtech forums please convince me not to spend my money...

Are they doing a MOBO combo deal with it? All I see in their add is for "Unlocked" CPU's.... DROOOOOLL

It appears they aren't doing any mobo combos with it. That said newegg has
h61 motherboards from Asrock for $50 (no overclocking)
z75 for $80 (overclocking but no intel smart cache with hd+ssd but you could still do ssd for drive c and hd for drive d)
z77 for $100 (overclocking and all the bells and whistles)

Memory is also dead cheap now a days. You can also get an os for cheap if you retire a win xp or vista computer with the windows 8 upgrade deal.

Same, just don't need this. 2500k here and a 2600k at work. Such a good deal though!

Ummmm Clue me in.... Whats special about a Z77? On board cache for HD's??
I have spent the last 2 weeks researching Video Cards..... THIS is too good to pass up.. So my research time on this is limited.... Going to MC at lunch....
Hopefully, this will stretch the existing video card I have.
Here is my shopping list so far:
Vengeance Series 8GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) CL9 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit (Two 4GB Memory Modules)
$40

Core i5 2500K 3.3GHz LGA 1155 Boxed Processor
$100

H series of motherboards can't overclock but have onboard video
P series of motherboard do not have onboard video but can overclock
Z series of motherboards have onboard video and can overclock

Z68 is the older chipset
Z75 and Z77 are the newer chipset. Z77 can do intel smart cache with a ssd+hd, z75 can not.

this deal is insane! I'd grab another if I didn't already own one...worth buying a few to spin out here on the FS/FT forum????

Hi 5 to you my friend.
A Z77 it is. On board video? Really? MAN, has the world changed! I presume its NOT as good as a seperate card.
I rememeber making the jump from a Creative Sound Card to on board sound. I was one of the first out there to do so. It was PURELY a cash decison. NEVER looked back. I cant imagine this is the same.

Post deals at MC if you have any. I'm still looking to build a decent PC but need MB, RAM, Video. MC is an hour away so suggestions would help in picking up all the parts in one place.

Actually, it's pretty good. I ran IGPU for a while and was able to play MW2 and other stuff. It's certainly strong enough for streaming video, etc. I'm putting a G620, which has the lesser version of Intel's IGPU, in my HTPC build... should work just dandy. If I hadn't already bought my G620, I'd probably jump on this deal!

Unless you are playing games, doing 3d cad work, or architecture/engineering you will not notice any speed difference between onboard or dedicated video. Intel onboard video does not suck for normal use, it only sucks on those 3 situations I described above.

Furthermore the onboard video uses less power than a dedicated card, and if your dedicated card fries or you are doing diagnostics you can use the onboard video till you get a new video card/rma. (Finally there is almost no price difference between the z and p series of boards.)

if i was closer i would alread be in the door buying one , why isnt there any microcenter close to me . if anyone is going to microcenter and is willing to get one for me and ship just send me a PM .

Yeah but P does not have that onboard cache thing.

Hi, I am a gamer. At this advanced age.
that "fried Vid Card" is a nice fallback too. Man, I gotta get out more.

WOW. What do you guys prefer?
Asrock or Gigabyte?

I am down to these 4:

ASRock Z77 Pro3 1155 ATX Intel
Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H LGA 1155 Z77 ATX Intel Motherboard

ASRock Z77 Pro4 LGA 1155 ATX Intel
Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H LGA 1155 Z77 mATX Intel Motherboard

Its like a 30 dollar difference hi to low. 95 to 125

Any thoughts?

OP

Thanks a LOT. Going at lunch.... (Curse you actually LOL)

I am an asrock fanboy, but all 4 of those boards will do you fine. I also am fine with gigabyte or asus. Stay the hell away from ecs.

Edit: My current motherboard is a Asrock z77 pro4-m. I been using it for 2 months due to my previous asus z68 p8z68-v pro gen3 board going out.
