What, exactly, does he expect to happen after he goes to the Supreme Court and they reread Article I of the Constitution to him and explain what the House of Representatives having the sole power of impeachment" means? I sure Trump thinks (I use the term advisedly) that the SC is his personal court to fix his grievances. Like when you have a judge in your pocket 'cause s/he owes you.

It is of course no revelation by now to anyone who is paying attention and is not deeply mired in soothing partisan denial - that the president is a bona fide fucking imbecile, but he still manages to astound me on a near-daily basis.

You have a simple question to ask yourself. Is Trump only about himself? If the answer is yes, and you still support him, there's nobody else to blame for being a fool but yourself. Checks and balances only work if the other branches choose to enforce them, and also care about the Constitution. This is not currently true of the Senate leadership.

Taking impeachment to the SCOTUS is an absurd notion. The Constitution grants them no say in the matter whatsoever.

the House had (and still has) a number of things that might have been considered "high crimes and misdemeanors" for which to start impeachment investigations on Trump... even before the Mueller investigation was completed.

I question whether the Senate would even begin deliberating. After all, we're talking about the same Mitch McConnell who decided that "advice and consent" meant that we should do nothing about a SCOTUS appointee until after the 2016 election. I'm sure this would be his response to an impeachment.

What's far more disturbing is that this confrontation between the House Democrats and the President is becoming a Constitutional crisis in which the president simply ignores and outright spites the House's constitutionally-held powers of oversight.

Dems said they'd wait because they didn't want to inadvertently interfere with the investigation. Given the results of that & ongoing efforts at even more obstruction it's perfectly clear that Dems have a moral obligation & a civic duty to the people & the Constitution to impeach the most corrupt President in History. The Senate has an overwhelming obligation to remove him from office, too, unless they're just as corrupt as he is.

Becoming a constitutional crisis? I'm afraid we already deep into it.

The president obstructing justice and continuing to obstruct justice is only the latest of a crisis already in progress. The other part is the senate and Mitch mcconnell's complete disregard for his constitutional duty in giving advice and consent to a judicial nomination (and it wasn't just the supreme court either). Add to that a president who isn't doing anything to protect this democracy from a foreign attack. On top of that we have a president who threatens to jail his political opponents. Even more still we have a private company acting as state media and spreading propaganda.

We are well past becoming a constitutional crisis, we are at the end of the beginning of one!

Not sure about this, but The House can merely vote to bring charges/to impeach - not to hold impeachment hearings. That is the sole purview of the Senate. All Pelosi can do is conduct "oversight" hearings, Correct? Were the Watergate hearings held in the Senate?

If thats the case, it seems Pelosi proposes to conduct those "oversight" hearings so the House won't lose control over the investigative process into Trump's illegal activities to the Senate and McConnell. She knows what will happen to the hearings in the impeachment/removal process if it is moved to the Senate.

I could see "oversight" hearings. For a long, long time. Don't vote to impeach until the evidence is out before the American people, and FFS, don't let McConnell get control over it.

No wonder Trump is trying to goad the House to vote to impeach ASAP.

"The longest-serving Republican currently in the Iowa legislature is leaving the GOP and joining the Democratic Party. Representative Andy McKean, a retired attorney, is in his 29th year as a member of the Iowa legislator.

“This has been a very difficult decision for me and has only come after considerable reflection, much prayer and many restless nights,” McKean said today. McKean described himself a moderate who’s felt uncomfortable in today’s GOP. McKean is unwilling to support President Donald Trump’s reelection and he said that was a factor in his exit from the Republican Party. “I believe that his actions have coarsened political discourse, have resulted in unprecedented divisiveness, and have created an atmosphere that is a breeding ground for hateful rhetoric and actions,” McKean said. “Some would excuse this behavior as telling it like it is and the new normal.”



Really pulling his punches there but congrats on escaping the cult Andy.

Only the House can vote to impeach Trump. Then it's the Senates job to have a trial, with the Chief Justice presiding.

Richly deserved, too bad it won't land him in prison. With his involvement in helping subvert justice after Iran Contra as well as his efforts for Team Treason's many problem with obstruction, this crook deserves so much more.

His 180 turn on duty and ethics compared to when Bill was in office is just precious. Fuck that guy.

Traitors and criminals avoiding oversight like roaches fleeing from daylight, just another day in the illegitimate criminal enterprise called the Trump admin. Start throwing people in jail!
