One could call this a clash of bubbles. Two ideologies that know nothing about the other. Thinking the other lives in nothing but lies and alt-realities.

One could do that but I don't recommend it. It is possible to be serious but also totally unhinged from reality and willing to do depraved things, which is where Trumpism has been gleefully led by the man himself because it benefited him.

So someone refresh us, once Trump is either convicted or acquitted, then can Democrats ban Trump from ever running again with a vote? A simple majority vote? After all, I believe banning Trump from future office was the entire purpose for impeachment. Not so much for impeachment itself but to bar or ban Trump from ever running again.

Nope, have to convict in order to have the ban from office vote.

tortured.

yeah, if I EVER had a clue that technology and social media would have been the thing for the future I would have definitely taken every journalism, writing, and English class available back in high school. Who could have ever known 50 years ago.... and who knows what 50 years from now will bring? Maybe living off the land and hunting with a bow could be the thing to prepared for?

Then, what WAS the point?? We knew how this would turn out. And it only gives Donald Trump yet another win by once again by dodging the bullet. This is all we need... Donald Trump with an even bigger head.

That information is the ultimate currency? Pretty fucking early on. Just didnt care.

He has the same size head as he did in 2016.
The man did not get worse. we just keep learning more about how deep his violent narcissism is.

Holy shit, dude! The lawyers took the case knowing a) They would win and 2)They weren't getting paid! Christ... free publicity for defending the Liar in Chief?! The crew that quit weren't prepared to whore themselves out.

As far as Ted Cruz running against Drumpf???? The fuck??? Did you miss 2016???

Damn...

Look at Ted Cruz popping in and out of the attorneys room. Ted Cruz is the guy for Democrats to worry about come 2024. Ted Cruz now believes that he is Donald Trump. You have been warned.

I wonder if Trump ever wonders if he should have stayed out of politics and just stuck with reality tv and finance? I think so. I think that what motivated Trump into politics was his ego and Trump believed entering politics would supercharge his ego and supercharge his popularity beyond the limits of reality tv. Then, Trump found out the hard way that reality tv and politics are like night and day.

Trump is not the real villain here, as much as I like to shit on him.

He was a victim of Fox News and the Republican party. They wanted a puppet in the Oval Office and cuz he's dumb and narcissistic he took the bait.
Then he got in there, started fucking up everything, and the GOP panicked. They probably realized their mistake in the first month but it was too late by then. So now they're just following him on his trip to hell.

Some Huh? wtf moments from Trumps lawyers...

One lawyer said “A leader of Antifa was arrested and already has been released.” Lol, Anybody know who he was referring to?

Trump’s lawyer denied “incitement to resurrection.” Lol, I think we can all agree, Trump did not resurrect anyone.

Showing “evidence” of Democrats and "liberals" using violent language against Trump. But they’re not gonna point out that it wasn’t Democrats or liberals storming the Capitol. Supporters go right under the bus. They’ve served their use. Now, like used toilet paper, they are to be disposed of. All those people were lied to and duped, and only at the end will they realize it. And most not even then. OMG Democrats used the word “fight” too! Because some people have objected, sometimes with threats of violence, to things Trump and his supporters have said and done, then it was perfectly OK for Trump to whip a mob into a frenzy to ransack the Capitol and kill anyone in congress who wouldn’t vote to make Trump king. Not only that, but we got treated to the parts of the SAME video just a few minutes later. Given that Trump is unlikely to actually pay his attorneys, he sure is getting what he paid for. They’re fully aware of his reputation for not paying bills, and figure that since he’s probably going to be acquitted anyway, why bother putting forth anything beyond the minimum effort. Since Trump will be acquitted, the lawyers can claim that they “won” the case, thus gaining future business.

A question from Graham: Does a politician raising bail for rioters encourage more rioting? ... Huh?. One word answer. “YES!”.

Collins asked Trump’s lawyers for a detailed timeline of steps he took to end the rioting. They said since the Dems rushed the impeachment, there was no time to investigate what he did to put together a timeline.... *facepalm*

Another lawyers stellar argument. “Hey, this is about incitement - not what happened after the incitement!” ... lol

A Trump lawyer called this a partisan impeachment. Ok ...I can only hope that someone suggests to imagine Biden, no, Hillary or Obama holding the same rally with the same results and picture acquitting them. If a deepfake video of Hillary or Obama riling up the crowd were shown to the ‘jury’ I’m sure there we be a visceral reaction. If there is a different answer about how they would vote based on that difference, then YOU are partisan, not impartial. What was the oath sworn at the start of the trial? "I solemnly swear (or affirm, as the case may be,) that in all things appertaining to the trial of the impeachment of , now pending, I will do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws: so help me God.". Yeah ... My ass.

These defense lawyers are getting way more personal than the managers. The house managers were very careful not to name anyone or even “wink, wink, nudge, nudge” anyone. I wish they would have played clips from 2016 of Cruz, Rubio, and Graham trashing Trump and warning what a disaster he would be as president. “Some of you tried to warn us that it would someday come to this.”

Hawley’s question is basically trying to open the door to prevent a sitting Democratic president from running again, even if not convicted. What a dick

So ... The defense basically is: - He can say anything he wants, the house managers are big, lying, poopyheads.

I know this isn't a legal proceeding, but come on! How can it be allowed to have the 'jurors' conferring with EITHER side during the actual trial?! I hope history remembers these weasels for the chicken-shit, suck-up, enablers that they are.

Ted Cruz is a weasel, so that explains Ted Cruz. But little Lindsey once hated Donald Trump and swore that Trump would never become president. What happened after that is anyone’s guess. I suspect little Lindsey was then raped by Donald Trump, and liked it, and fell in love with Donald Trump. Whatever it was that changed little Lindsey from a Trump hater into a Trump banner waver had to have been something unnatural. Like a perversion of nature.

I love it! Trump’s lawyer just told the senate how and what standards the senate is supposed to use for impeachment, including having to adhere to current legal standards.

They still don't get that DJT doesn't give a shit about another person on this earth, let alone the VP.

Trump’s lawyer disputes the facts that trump didn’t care about pence and then just claimed, without evidence, that trump cared about pence and everyone else involved.

Thanks for cementing the lawyers are scum bags meme.

Most of the impeachment defense seems to be that the insurrection was terrible, sure, but Trump had nothing to do with it. The problem was those awful people who stormed the Capitol entirely by their own bad choice. So, what does his base think of him after that? He’s no longer head of the movement. Instead he is a critic of it, claiming those people are just wrong. Maybe he could get away with shooting somebody in the middle of 5th Avenue, but can he get away with officially calling his base dumbfucks. This is classic Trump; do something stupid, fail terribly, and then blame everyone else around him. Unfortunately, it seems ... “his base”, energized and wound up over one would-be utterly inept demagogue is primed to accept and follow another. After he’s acquitted he’ll call the people who stormed the Capitol patriots and tell them he loves them. His base will eat it up. He will never acknowledge that his defense team argued something different and will essentially pretend that that never happened.

Trumps defense is throwing his insurrectionist supporters under the bus. What do his supporters think/do afterwards?

They line up for the next bus.

I hope the house managers are able to respond to the question of contradicting themselves. The dick of course misrepresented their argument.

So I just read that, assuming they don't get the 67 votes, which they will not, that the dems want to pass legislation barring Trump from office. I didn't understand until I read the 14th Amendment, section 3. Seriously, read it:

Holy crap, I had forgotten about that. It is arguably unconstitutional for Trump to even run for office again.

It’s interesting, the amendment provides for Congress to “remove the disability” but doesn’t state how it is determined that someone engaged in insurrection in the first place.

I'm assuming presumably, Congress would pass a resolution finding that he had engaged in insurrection. Trump would challenge it in the courts and it would be up to the SC to decide?.
